I used to love going to this shop and paying a little extra for the "gentleman's experience," and even started tipping 50% to the owner who cut my hair, after COVID, to help keep the lights on while he was struggling. I called for an appointment the other day and spoke with Oscar, the owner. He asked how quickly I could get there bc he was free then, or that I could come in a half an hour. I said "it is better for you if I come now, so I'll rush out the door and come now, so you still have the free appointment in 30 mins." Get there 10 mins later and 30 seconds after somebody else pulled up, when Oscar takes him and tells me "I'll be with you in 20 mins." Then he says "are you the guy I just spoke with over the phone?" which was when I expected him to explain to the other customer that he has an appointment with me....but instead, the owner just repeats that I would have a 20 min wait, even after confirming that I was indeed the customer he was expecting. Paying extra for the "gentleman's experience," and getting treated like this?!? I would cut my own hair before spending another dollar here!! ‍ And when I called to tell him I wouldn't be coming back again, his response wasn't "i'm sorry I did that to you!" but "i'm sorry you feel that way." Seriously?!? Very disappointed and never coming back....hope it was worth losing a client and getting the bad review bc that's what it cost you! Helen saw my youngest son and she was super patient; the experience was pleasant, quick and easy for my little guy! Jerry did a fantastic job taming the mane which was once my oldest sons hair. If I could give 0 stars I would. This isn't for the whole shop can only speak on Helen. I went in for a mid skin-fade and a cleanup on top nothing crazy. Walked out with a mid fade on side and a high fade on the other. Sides weren't blended at all was a complete hack job. I'm all for talking but stopping every minute or so to stare at me in mirror telling a story made the experience very unenjoyable. When I got in car and saw the damage I immediately went back to my old barbershop that I only changed from due to high prices and now I see why they charge those they prices they know what they are doing. When circumstances arise where you need to find a new barber shop it's always difficult to put your trust in somebody new. When you go to the same person for 15+ years it's nice to know that when you sit down in that chair it's one less thing you have to think about. However, the days of walking in and realizing your third in the waiting line for "your guy" should not still be a thing but sadly it is. This was one of the main reasons I recently started going to Nucky's. It's immeasurable to know that you can make a reservation and have the option to pay by card at the same time if you so desire. I can only speak from my personal experience but Jerry D is excellent and I would imagine the rest of the barbers are as well. read more

Very disappointed after my recent experience! I went here with my husband several times while we were out running errands and took my son here before. While waiting there was a woman who works there named Helen who was having a conversation with other people when she used the fa*got several times and in another conversation used the word retard several times. I am a big supporter of the LGBTQ community and i have a disable family member as well, so i found this to be an extremely uncomfortable environment to be in. There were other customers in the waiting area who shook their heads, and could not believe what they were hearing as well, ome said they would not be returning after this but he needed a haircut immediately so he stayed. The woman is obviously uneducated, but I'm very surprised that the owner who is there allowed this language and behavior in his shop. I thought I would leave this review so no one else has to hear or be uncomfortable in this environment while going for a haircut. Unfortunately, I will be taking my business elsewhere and so will my friends and family Once they heard about this awful experience. read more

It's hard to find a place where all the barbers are good. Usually there's one barber who no one wants to go to. Not here they are all good. They listen to what you want, explain that it may take a a few visits to get what your looking for (letting your hair grow out, etc). This establishment has done a fantastic job at creating THEIR brand in a competitive industry on Long Island. I was greeted immediately upon entering the shop, and assured my wait would not be long. Even if it was, my haircut was what I was looking for. The shop is clean and inviting accompanied by additional perks for your patronage. Oscar took care of me, shared a brief history of his work experience and I can see why his clients followed him from his previous employer. I am happy for his success with his coworkers at Nucky's. I was actually happy with my old barber but had to leave because it was not as clean as a shop should be - towels that should have been white were grey. So I found Nucky's. This shop is spotless, absolutely immaculate and has a great feel and character to it. On top of this, the cut I get from Oscar is the best I have ever gotten, regardless of price and the prices here are very reasonable. Certainly the best in the vicinity. There comes a time in your life when you don't want to hear loud music,get the town gossip and don't want to see everyone and their mothers(including people who are there not even getting haircuts,but just to chill and take up space )every time you need to go to the barber shop...it's not like that at Nucky's aka Oscar's...it's quite,comfortable,nice and new,TV's everywhere with sports on and a nice leveled pool table,how can you go wrong? Went with my teen son to Nucky's for the first time. I don't really like going to a new barber but we had the best experience there. Me and my son loved our Haircuts and while I got my hair cut my son was able to play a free game of billiards and watch TV. Place is clean and all new. Parking was easy and this will be our new barbershop from now on. read more

Unwelcoming staff. Bad haircuts. I have walked in five different times trying 4 different barbers. 1st was good. All of the rest left me unsatisfied. They refuse to admit fault. There is a picture of my last laughable haircut on my facebook wall as well as on google reviews. They serve beer there but never offered me one. Apparently it's only for VIPs. Avoid this place. Sal the Barber is close by, but even Supercuts would be an upgrade. read more

I wouldn't recommend this barber chop to anyone. Yes I meant to write barber chop. The first time I went in I did receive a great scissor cut from a barber named Jordan. The second time I made an appointment to be sure I had Jordan cut my hair again. What a mistake! I purposely let my hair grow out a bit so he could have a little more to style with the scissors since I'm use to a scissor cut rather then a clipper chop job. Holy Moly! By the time I walked out of there I didn't have enough hair on the sides of my head to pass my fingernails through,actually you could see the skin of my scalp from 6 feet away! I don't know how they found this guy,but barbering is not his forte. Maybe sweeping up the shop or doing shampoos but he should never be left alone unsupervised while working on a customers hair. I am considering contacting the N.Y.S. Department of Licensing to request he be retested for the barbers license he was issued. As for the establishment itself it is very clean and well maintained but has too many distractions. 3 T.V. Screens that play sports? It distracts the person working on the customers hair. iPhone texting by the employees while customers are sitting there, again major distraction for the barber. What's up with that? read more

I've waited about a month to post a review, in an attempt to remain objective. I've been here before, and when the owner was working on my son's hair it came out really great. However our last trip was an absolute nightmare. My son has been growing out his Mohawk for over a year. It finally got to the point where it could be shaped into a style he liked. We went on a Saturday and although they had a full house the wait wasn't very long. We were seen by a woman, whose name I never got. Both myself and my son explained to her that he had waited a year to blend the sides of his hair from growing out a Mohawk and he was nervous about the style. He reiterated multiple times that he just wanted the "tail" from growing out the Mohawk trimmed up on the back, and to blend the sides into the length on top. She nodded a lot and said, "ok." I turned by back for a half second to keep my other son close to where we were stood and in the interim she Buzzed one sides of his hair into the beginning of Fauxhawk. My son was devastated that he waited a year to grow his hair just to watch it all fall to the floor. At this point, to keep him calm, I explained to her to just try and blend in the sides to the top somehow, and she proceeded to cut over 4 inches off, starting at the front of his hair. It was irreversible at that point and despite me telling her to stop, she kept cutting. He left with a completely chopped and botched haircut that was no more than 2" long, after waiting a whole year to grow it over 5". The "Fauxhawk," she gave him literally looks like a toddler cut it. Over a month later he still hates how his hair looks. The only upside is the owner didn't charge straight off the bat when I told him what happened, at which point she ARGUED with me stating I asked for a Mohawk. Not only did I not ask for a Mohawk, but both I and my son made it clear repeatedly that he was growing out his hair and wanted to keep it long. The only reason I am giving two stars is the owner tried his best to resolve the problem, and our first experience there several months ago with my other son was great. read more

Nucky's is a classy spot that reminds me of a mix of the last few shops I had been too (always following Pierce where he goes) and this is always a pleasant experience and good vibe. Im at the point I dont want to spend 3 hours running into high school dudes and discussing music, but also dont want to feel too uptight or out of my atmosphere with a different breed of people (usually were up tight). This is a nice mix, beautiful shop, pool table and good talented barbers.. Im sure all barbers are amazing, I highly recommend Joey though. read more

This place stands out in an area full of barber shops. Very clean and welcoming. I always have Joe P. cut my hair and my children's hair. He is extremely meticulous with a great eye for detail. You never feel rushed. Joe also goes above and beyond for his clients. For example, my 6 year old son thought it was funny to cut a piece of his hair off this past weekend. Not surprisingly, my wife freaked out. She was worried that he would go to school looking like a fool. I called Joe the same day and Joe offered to cut his hair the following day on Joe's day off. I accepted the offer and could not have been more grateful for Joe's extraordinary service. Plus, thankfully, Joe was able to fix my son's mess and give him a great haircut. read more
