I almost didn't leave a review but because of the weird experience, I wanted to post this review as…read morea caution to others... I tried to book an appointment last month, which ended up being confirmed through a booking site. It made me pay the full amount plus tip upfront before the service even started (maybe because I booked within 24 hours?). I show up to the salon suite which is located inside of a building with multiple service suites. I end up waiting for about 30 minutes before one of the other suite renters asked who I was waiting for. I told them and they said they haven't heard from her (also, it's unclear if the owner of Touch of Elegance is Bridgette Carpenter per the other reviews, or someone named "Denise Carpenter", per the booking site). They gave me her contact number, and I attempted to call it, just to hear one of those phone notifications that go "we're sorry, but the number you are dialing is not in service". Two other shop owners tried to text her for me, unable to get ahold of her. My husband (who graciously waited with me) even found her Facebook account and messaged her, received no read receipt or reply. At this point, I've already been searching for other salons that does relaxers. I finally find one and leave. I ended up having to do a charge-back on my credit card (always book with a credit card for issues like this, folks! I got my $$ back within 5 hours). Still never heard back from her. I hope Bridgette/Denise is okay. I post this to say: maybe get voice confirmation from this owner before paying anything and wasting your time on a service that won't get done. Fwiw, the listing of the business on the site I booked my appointment on (booksy) has now been removed, so maybe the owner forgot she had one?

I normally do not leave reviews, but I was very disappointed with my experience here. I was running…read moreabout 4 minutes late to my appointment and apologized as soon as I arrived. Before I even got there, I was already being texted about being late, and when I explained I did not have her number, I was told it was "on Google or the booking site" in a way that came across very rude and passive aggressive. Once I sat down, she continued bringing up how late I was and mentioned multiple times that she had another client after me and still needed to get hair for them. The entire appointment felt rushed and uncomfortable from the beginning. She kept saying my hair was "matted" even though I had already detangled it before coming, and she repeatedly told me my hair was "straight" and "doesn't curl," which is simply not true. I specifically booked for finger coils and clearly stated multiple times that I did NOT want comb coils, yet she still kept trying to do comb coils anyway. The whole appointment made me feel like she either did not want to do my hair or did not know how to work with my hair texture. I even asked about two-strand twists, she agreed, started them, and I immediately did not like how they looked. When I asked if she could just straighten my hair instead, she told me she "didn't have time" because she had another client scheduled. My appointment was at 1:30 and by around 2:45 I was basically rushed out and left with nothing but a ponytail, while still being charged $45. Overall, the experience felt unprofessional, dismissive, and uncomfortable. Update: In response to the owner's reply, I would like to add that she repeatedly claimed my hair was "straight" and did not curl. However, after I returned home, I styled my natural hair myself and my curls were very defined, full, and voluminous. I can provide photos showing this. This further confirmed my belief that she either did not know how to work with my hair texture or did not understand how to style my curls properly. I would also like to mention that after I posted my reviews on Yelp and Google, she began contacting me about them. She called my mother regarding the review and then proceeded to send me multiple messages about it. I found this behavior highly unprofessional and inappropriate. Additionally, after looking more closely at the photos used to advertise her natural hair services, I noticed that many of the natural hair pictures do not appear to be examples of work performed on clients during my experience with her. As a customer, this raises concerns for me about whether the advertised results accurately reflect her own work and experience with natural hair. Everything I stated in my original review was an honest account of my experience. I have no reason to misrepresent what happened. Based on both the appointment itself and the events that followed, I do not believe she handled the situation professionally.

First off, she did not start on time! I had to wait in the car 30 mins past my appointment time because she was running late; definitely not a good first impression. I booked her for two strand twist. AFTER she finished my hair she tells me that since my hair is thicker that's an extra $15 and because I wanted two strand twist on blowdried hair that was another extra $15. So $70 two strand twist turned into $100 two strand twist. This is not something you tell a client after the service!! This is something you state up front so the client can decide if they are okay with the price or not. Nowhere on the website does it indicate an up-charge for "thick hair". Neither does it indicate an up-charge for a blow dry which is usually included with the two strand service. She was quick to up-charge but didn't even attempt to compensate for wasting my time by starting late. I wouldn't return if she was the last stylist in Charlotte.
