The customer relations was very good. People were courteous and patient and friendly. My only concern was that during the thorough and courteous verbal interactions, they didn't mention verbally that they would run my credit for monthly payments of a procedure my insurance doesn't cover. It was written in the papers I signed, that credit is run for installment payments, but it was never mentioned in the conversation during which I was clear that I would pay out of pocket when ready. They apologized for the lapse in communication and offered me a complimentary cleaning. I appreciate that they acknowledged the issue. read more

The doctor was friendly enough the check up was ok, the only problem was the bill-- for a two year old normal dental checkup and cleaning I received a bill for $750. They said my insurance plan paid $550 and I had $200 copay. I called my insurance company found out there's not even any claims from them. So I guess this dental office doesn't take my plan(I booked from zocdoc which showed they do), the whole checkup is $200. When my teenage son needed emergency dental work we came to Nuance. I am very satisfied with the outcome of his treatment. When he came in he was in a great deal of pain and after a few visits the tooth was repaired beautifully. I was nervous about my visit because I don't currently have dental insurance- but Christina and the dentist I saw that day, Dr. Garcia, made me feel comfortable that they were going to give me the best care with a financial plan that I could handle. Any issues with my teeth as well as the cost to fix them were explained to me very clearly. And I did not feel pressured to pay for anything I didn't want to - but felt educated about my situation to make the right choice. I went to the CPW location and had issues but what happened at Nuance was the single worst example of customer service. I was in the exam room, with my bib on and various dentist implements next to me. The dentist, Dr. Fernandes, asked the receptionist to "speak with me." She gave the price of the procedure and I agreed to it. Then she asked how I was paying and I said by credit card. Do you have your credit close by? She asked. ????? I was seconds away from having a procedure done and you want to run the card? Are. You. Serious. I was a self pay and I wondered if they were said that I would run away, bib and everything, instruments flying out if my mouths. Don't treat people different, first off. How disrespectful. AVOID THIS SCHEDULING NIGHTMARE! I really wanted to give Nuance Dental Studio the benefit of the doubt, especially since their director reached out personally to apologize for the initial mixup. A few more scheduling issues later and I'm frustrated beyond belief. I initially chose this office because I saw that they had Saturday hours and an amazing Groupon deal (a lifesaver for someone without dental insurance). I arrived for my confirmed appointment time to a closed office. I waited in the hallway hoping that they were just running late and left several messages with the desk asking for clarification on the mixup and to reschedule. A few days passed and no one would return my calls. I was finally able to confirm a new appointment. Unfortunately, I had to be the one to reschedule through ZocDoc. After selecting a new time, one of the receptionist called to inform me that the new appointment time I selected was unavailable. She couldn't provide an explanation but was able to fit me in for that same week. The morning of I received a text from the office saying that my appointment time had been pushed up 30 extra minutes...a little weird to see due to the fact that I was already on my way to the office. I ended up waiting about an hour and a half before I was finally seen. The cleaning and xrays were okay. The poor girl doing the xrays seemed confused and hit me in the face a few times with the machine. The dental hygienist who did the cleaning was AMAZING though. I wish I remembered her name because she was the shining star of my whole experience. She gave me great advice, was so positive, and honest with her evaluation. KEEP HER AROUND. She was FANTASTIC. For her alone, I give the review an additional star. I had to wait another 20 minutes in the chair before Dr. Genevieve Fernandes was able to see me. She had a poor bedside manner and was more focused on the maintenance happening in the waiting room. Was quick to rush me out. I spent almost 3 hours in the office for a simple cleaning and xrays. I was then told I needed a root canal. The receptionist set me up for a consultation with their sister office, Central Park West Dental Studio. I stressed that if possible I needed an early appointment. She wrote down my appointment time on a card for Dr. Mayers and I was finally on my way. I showed up to Central Park West Dental Studio at my confirmed date and time to discover that they had yet again messed up my appointment. I was a full hour early. The dentist hadn't even arrived. I showed them my schedule card and told them I couldn't afford to wait the full hour due to work. The woman told me she would call as soon as they had a new appointment time open. Once again Dr Fernandes saved my life, literally. I am a long time patient and this practice has done such a great job with my treatment plan and working with me to get everything I need done. They always go the extra mile to make sure you're comfortable and understand everything. Today I needed an emergency wisdom tooth extraction and they were able to fit me into the schedule , get me right in, and take care of it. I am so thankful for the amazing care I receive on a normal basis but even more so for the amazing attention and care when I am in pain and need urgent care. Didn't know a dental office as scammy as this are allowed to operate in the first world. Bought a groupon for a regular cleaning and was told I needed deep cleaning (without x-rays) and refused to operate without deep cleaning. Went to a few more offices the next day and everyone said I didn't need deep cleaning, and the price they offered seems so outrageously low makes me question if it would actually be a regular cleaning masked as a deep cleaning. read more

This is to update as requested by the office manager, Daniel. While I do appreciate him reaching out to me regarding my review, I must disclose that I was asked to delete my review as it reflected negatively on their practice. I do not believe my review was off from my experience which is why I choose to update rather than delete. He explained to me that it was his misunderstanding that I expressed interest in Invisalign. I'm pretty sure it was part of the new patient paperwork and I do believe I didn't express interest but cannot be 100% sure. What I do know is I did say no when asked and it was continuously brought up in the first visit which is frustrating. It was brought up while checking out quite a few times as well regardless of my clear "no" which was responded with well you think about it and let us know next visit. He also told me that this misunderstanding occurred when he confirmed my next appt. my next appt (for cleaning) was made with the receptionist, not him and my appt was confirmed via text message not over the phone with him so I don't know what confirmation he is referring to and I expressed this to him. When I expressed my concern with the fact that it was recommended I come back for a teeth cleaning in 3 months and how, while not being to the dentist in a few years due to having a baby etc, it has never been recommended before, he decided to say it was due to my pregnancy bc your teeth can change (yes they can but I highly doubt causing me to go from cleaning 1x a year to 4x especially with no evidence of cavities). So I have given an extra star for the fact that Daniel reached out to me concerning my feelings about their practice but I do still feel that I can agree to disagree with them that my feelings are all a result of a misunderstanding read more

What a wonderful experience from start to finish! First of all, the one and only receptionist there Talisa is amazing! Shout out to my girl. I was running late so I called ahead and she assured me there would be no problem and was very friendly towards me at my arrival and slowly talked me through all the paper work in their amazingly comfortable lounge area. I was promptly seen by Eunice - potentially the warmest human being in NYC. She's from South Korea and she's hilarious and made me feel at ease and like I was at home almost as she took my x-rays. Then the dentist Dr. Ghuman did my cleaning and check up and was an absolute delight as well, incredibly friendly with a genuine concern for her patients. Let me finish by saying that I visited on a Groupon - which I have had mixed experiences with. Sometimes it seems as though the company writes you off as "just a Groupon patient" and gets you in and out as quickly as possible. NOT THE CASE HERE. I scheduled a follow up appointment then and there which THEY ALSO GAVE ME A DISCOUNT ON!!! I stopped by to chat with Talisa on my way out and she gave me an awesome swag bag of dental hygiene must-haves. UNETHICAL BEHAVIOR. STAY AWAY! The manager reached out to me about my review. I thought I had said this but I didn't so I am adding it: The dental office was very professional and none of my conversations with them were adversarial. That doesn't change the fact that I believe I was swindled, I felt pressured to get some of the work done there, even though it would have cost almost $2,000, and I had trouble getting the documents I needed to go elsewhere. The bottom line is that they don't take my insurance, they said they did, and that's a lie that cost me money, time and prolonged dental issues as I battled with them to get my records and looked for somewhere else to go. ----------- I was referred by my insurance company and when I called, I was told they take my insurance. My co-pay should have been $0. When I arrived for my office visit, I had to pay $125. I was then given an exam and told I needed a filling and asked to pay $550. I said no and went to my insurer to get reimbursed by them for the $125 out of pocket. They said the dental office had not submitted any paperwork from my visit. When I called the dental office to get my paperwork, I was told that the paperwork takes a very long time. I was then sent this text: "Hi xxxxx, this is Xxxxx the manager at Nuance. For your dental benefit we honored just the xxxxxx health annual deductible and copay. If a claim is submitted by us it's only for further reimbursement to us." I was later told that they don't submit paperwork to the insurer. Furthermore, I asked for my records so I could get the filling and some other work done elsewhere, and they refused. I had to call back three more times to get the correct referral. Every time they sent it, they left off the work they wanted me to have done with them. The receptionist was cagey, didn't want to make a referral and two different people at this dental office tried to get me to use them for the additional work, even though they clearly don't really take my insurance and would have charged thousands of dollars. read more

The Director/office manager named Daniel called me the following day to rectify what had happened. He was overall professional and concerned. Although he implied that because it was our son's first formal dental visit we should not have expected the X-rays to have been successful (actually both dentist and secretary had explicitly mentioned post-facto that they did not have pedodontic tools available) he was willing to try again at a different location that would have them. I have an infected tooth and so my friend recommended Nuance, but goes to a different office than this one. My criteria was that they accepted my insurance, which was my friend's first question and they said YES. Then they texted me and said I would ONLY be responsible for a $50.00 deductible. I was ONLY going in for my infected tooth, but they took it upon themselves to take many x-rays, and because my mouth is so swollen, they couldn't do work on me, so suggested I might as well get a tooth cleaning because "you get two a year with your insurance." So I go to check out and it's $185.00. I am on Medicaid *for a reason* and they made excuses, but didn't inform me along the way how much everything would cost. And agreed, their teeth cleaning was the quickest I ever experienced. Not only this but KNOWING I am in intense pain, they completely forgot to call in my antibiotics and Ibuprofen prescription and I HAVE AN INFECTION. I ran a medical center in CA and this is the opposite way to treat patients. It's important to be clear... but I have never had a doctor NOT CALL IN A PRESCRIPTION. I had to have a filling removed and replaced yesterday and Dr Gelman is an amazing dentist! Not only was she sympathetic about my anxiety, but she also made it fun! Like everyone else I found a Groupon for a cleaning, and like everyone else I instead got a whole lecture about invisaligns. Although I made an appointment for 3 pm, I wasn't seen until 4:30 pm. There was a lot of paperwork handed to me and between the appropriate medical history documents were suspicious documents like whether or not I want an additional procedure for oral cancer done for $200 where both the "yes" and "no" were highlighted. There was also an application for some type of credit card within the stack of papers given to me. I should've taken this as the first sign that this place was not an ethical office. I then went into the office room where the I had my xrays done for 30 minutes. The equipment was old and clunky and the assistant had trouble taking my xrays because of how old and bulky the xray was, sometimes I had to move my body and face just so she could get the positioning right. (My usual office has a more modern and digital xray that he had no problem maneuvering around my mouth). The plastic XCP thing that I had to bite down on had a lot of bite marks from other patients and I wondered if they sanitized it after each use. Eventually, after my exam the dentist insisted that because of the crowding on the bottom set of my teeth there would be "no point" in doing a cleaning because my teeth would still be crowded. She then left and allowed her assistant to go on the invisalign website and sell me the product for another 15 minutes. Once I asked if I was going to get my cleaning done she told me I wasn't a "candidate" for a cleaning. Even though I've never had a problem with other dentists before. I left this place with the unmistakeable feeling of being SCAMMED. I wasn't worried about the money I lost at this point I was just infuriated at the amount of time I had wasted in this office. I'm also concerned for the other people who would go to this office, maybe people who don't have insurance, or don't speak English very well and how easily they can be duped into thinking this is a normal practice. I never post reviews because I don't ever take things personally and offer the benefit of the doubt for every business I step in to. But this place is an exception. Nothing can fix the time I wasted, and I am appalled at how they genuinely don't see anything wrong in their practice. Last time I was here checking my wisdom teeth, the doctor proscribed me some 500mg amoxicillin. I was severely allergic to it and had rash all over my body. I went to another dental office right after and they told me to stop the medication right away otherwise I would have life threats. I have been a patient in here for almost a year. This is the second incident happened that really upset me. Last year, after one of my deep cleaning sessions, I found out that my front teeth's gum disappeared and got ripped off. I have to say the hygienist is professional and Dr. Lee is nice (even though the last time I visited the office in June I saw a different dentist and not sure what happened to Dr. Lee) . Services are good as long as your insurance or you pay. Front desk services are poor. The woman at the front desk - Galina, was nice until there is an insurance problem. They do not care about their patients in terms of their insurance policy or whether their procedure will be covered; all they care is to keep scheduling procedure and appointment. When they do not get the money from your insurance company, they will charge your credit card that's on their file. All they want is money from your pocket and they do not listen and get very defensive. They won't help but they will try to put the blame on you, because as I was told, they have to deal with so many patients and insurance companies everyday, there is no way they have time for individual needs. I was told to look at the bright side and pay up because , "Well, at least you have healthy gum." Absolutely irresponsible and poor business practice. Partially my fault for placing my trust in them. I should have confirmed with my insurance company instead of trusting what the front desk told me. I will never go back again!
