I was craving an old fashioned hot dog and i found this restaurant through Yelp. I drove a few miles to come here and was please to see the restaurant had a drive thru. I also saw that this restaurant is in a food court. I purchased a slaw dog and a hot dog with chili and slaw. I also purchased a large tater tot. My total came to $10.88. The hot dogs were a little over $3.00 each with the toppings and i found that to be a fantastic price. I went through the drive thru and the drive thru agent was very friendly. I recieved the food quickly. The Verdict. The slaw dog was absolutely delicious. The hot dog with chili and slaw was strange. So strange i had to keep looking at it to determine just what exactly it had on it. The chili tasted so different than any chili i had ever tasted. They used a seasoning in it im not accustomed to being in chili, and it was so pungent it filled up my nose. It was nutmeg or cinnamon or something. It was in abundance and it took over the taste of the hot dog entirely. The chili also had a weird consistency to it. I will return. However i wont ever order anything with chili again. I've had Nu Way once before. This is my first time at this location. Ordered two hot dogs, all the way, (chili, onions, and mustard) and one slaw dog. The slaw dog had a nice light fresh taste. Very disappointed we wasted money on a less than subpar meal. Only reason an extra star was given was because the fries were hot for my entire party. Of 7 cold hotdogs, only 2 were made correctly. Our sodas were flat even after returning the first round and receiving a replacement. Might I add, we were asked to remove the lids and tops for them to refill the cups that were given to us first with a new drink which was also flat. I understand cutting costs but most restaurants won't allow any items to cross back over the threshold (even before COVID). It is what it is. I went through the drive thru. I ordered a mega size with a Diet Coke to drink. I drove to the nearby lake to eat. I don't go to Nu-way much because I don't like their soggy fries. I love their hotdogs though. I started to eat my hotdog then go take a refreshing sip of Diet Coke, it's 92 degrees with the heat index around 100 degrees outside, it's not Diet Coke. It's sweet tea. I hate sweet tea. All you can taste is the obscene amount of sugar they put in it. You can't taste any tea flavor. I would have been OKAY if it had been unsweetened tea. The legendary Nu-Way. Those of us in the gluttony biz have known about Nu-Way even if we're far too lazy to make the drive down to Macon to try their red hots. But a trip to Florida, combined with an unplanned stop for gas, led to, well, ANOTHER unplanned stop for gas. Now I'm not foolish enough to confuse this branch with the original. I've eaten at enough chains borne from the need to whore out a one and only to recognize the impact of dilution. I'll keep all that in mind when I type this up. Anyway, I ordered two chili dogs, fries and a coke. As promised, I was handed my radiation red wieners and my fries. I bit into my dogs and.....eh. They were fine, but were they worthy of the press? Not quite. The franks still had some nice bite and the chili smacked of cinnamon and possibly nutmeg that some of the slyer chili dog recipes call for. But it was still kind of pedestrian. The unsalted fries didn't help the cause as did the relatively high cost (almost $7) for what amounted to 2 small chilidogs. Still, considering what I stated earlier about originals vs. branches, I risk being overly critical here. So three stars for this particular branch of "Nu-Way." I've been coming to Nu-Way my whole life. It's been there for 100 years for a reason (Nu-Way, not my life). My favorite is a scramble dog. Just had two all the way and it was just. so. good. The steamed bun and wiener and toppings just fall together in your mouth in the most perfect way. Fries are crispy to perfection. And, as it turns out, chili dogs and fries are good for your health! Sat in the drivethru for ten minutes after the car in front of me pulled up and got their food. Nobody ever took my order. Nobody said a word. I finally pulled up to the window and the woman and the counter ignored me for several more minutes until she finally had the audacity to look at me slack jawed and tell me she had asked me what I wanted (she hadn't) and returned to making drinks without ever taking my order or even asking me to get back in line. Sadly, the weiner itself was the culprit. The Nu-Way weiner is no Vienna Red Hot, not by a mile. It had almost no "snap" to the skin and the inside was... mealy. I understand the bright pink color is part of their mystique and I was down with that. But a snapless, mealy weiner is not something you can overlook. The slaw was great. The chili was great. The bun was perfectly steamed. They got everything right at this weiner place except the weiner. Based on the dog alone, this would be two stars, max. Have been eating Nu-Way for many years. In the last year, we have tried three locations, Zebulon Rd, Bloomfield Rd and Watson Blvd. They have all changed. We order hot dogs all the way, but the last couple of times they just have not been the same, that is way we have tried multiple locations. The other thing we love to order is the Ham-Club Double Decker with Fries (as stated on the menu). The last three we got from three locations were all different, they are now using very thin sliced ham, not the usual thick sliced ham. This makes them terrible. Today, we got our order from Zebulon Rd and got home with it (15 miles away) and both our club sandwiches were missing the fries. The receipt says that it comes with fries and when I called and questioned them, the young lady that answered the phone, said we have to order with fries. Every menu that I have found for this sandwich says it comes with fries. I have never had to order them separately. They had her standing outside to take order like another much more efficient popular chicken joint but unfortunately Nu-Way doesn't have the same technology that allows the chicken place to have servers outside. That being said the woman had to walk back in to get orders started and even with taking orders two ways I waited 20mins for a hotdog FML. I moved to South Georgia about a year ago and have seen these restaurants all over the place. I love a good hotdog so I decided to stop by for lunch. The dogs had an unnatural red skin and gave too easily to the bite. Inside, the meat was pale and sickly and lacked a defined flavor. It was almost as if the hot dog was a neutral vehicle for the toppings, which ranged from standard for the ketchup, mustard, etc to unsettling for the watery and uniformly textured chili. Nu way food is always good but my problem with this particular place is that every time I come here their tv is always on CNN and the 'fake news '. They used to keep it on a sports channel. I've asked the employees about it and they say they're not allowed to change the channel. Every time I come here I have to eat in the lobby outside. You would think a place like this would keep their tv on a neutral channel, ESPN, HGTV, something like that. But even on Saturdays in the Fall they've got to have DNC and all their propaganda spewing from the TV. People who would rather see a news program instead of a college football game are the same people who can't wait to pay higher taxes and adore Elizabeth Warren. I'm giving it five stars because their breakfast items are so yummy. I always get the fluffiest melt in your mouth pancakes I have ever had when i come here to eat their breakfast. I'm not a fan of their hotdogs at all. I don't see what the craze over them are. The chilli looks like baby droppings and it tastes disgusting. Castlebury's chilli is much much better than Nu ways and there is nothing special about their hotdogs. If you want a great breakfast, then by all means stop by here. It's even better than IHOP. But be warned that if you go to the Zebulon Rd location, they shut down the Malt machine over two hours before closing and are ready to run out the door to go home. Three times our family had this happen as well as having the evening manager tell us they had no ketchup bottles after asking for some ketchup.
