Drove out of our way to get here off I-81S. Food was good but just as pricey as Cracker Barrel or Bob Evans. Basically only get 1 & 1/2 pieces of bacon with your order. No biscuits. Cookies are good though and service is pleasant. read more

Nice folks and a delicious breakfast. I had the waffle with a while spread of fresh strawberries, butter and fresh whipped cream (not too sweet) all thoughtfully deconstructed on the side. Joe had the eggs (so fresh) and toast with housemade jam and local peppercorn bacon. Oh and choice of light medium or dark roast coffee....or mimosas. Amazing! A gem! read more

Tiny eat in restaurant with great local farm to table food. I enjoyed a spicy tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich. The sandwich looked and tasted differently than I would have expected. The bread had lots of body and the cheese was fresh and nutty. It was locally made and excellent. There are only a few tables and was quite busy the day that I stopped in for a quick lunch. I recommend it for takeout just in case it happens to have more than a few guests. read more

I don't quite understand the 5 stars. The soup we had was so so, the garlic lovers sandwich was bland and on bread I could buy from Walmart, and I couldn't understand why there was even garlic in the name as I couldn't taste any. Luckily tea is difficult to mess up, which I enjoyed. That said the staff we're pleasant but the prices above average for this kind of lunch. Wish I'd gone to Panera where at least I know the quality of what I get. I am all for these little places making a go of it, but folks, go to a few sandwich shops and take note of presentation and content or else I'm afraid you won't be around long enough for me to see the change next time I'm here. Maybe they had a limited selection since it is winter? Will try again in summer time although I would just rather hit up the farmer's market. Amazing and out of this world fresh food. Delicious!! I had eggs, tomato, bacon with gluten free toast. Heirloom tomato was the BEST I ever tasted. Bacon was soooo good. My friend had cheesy grits. Fantastically flavorful. Gluten free bread is rich, moist and slightly more dense than most GF breads. Very good. This review comes from someone who lives at Whole Foods and only eats the highest quality food available! The women that run the shop are super friendly, helpful and efficient. The place is very clean. They also have a small selection of produce, coffee, fresh meats, sandwiches you can buy. Highly recommended!! read more

A Quaint little place. Wonderful and interesting food choices. Everything seems to be a little expensive but I guess that comes with the nature of having farm to table food. It is not a great value for the amount of food that you get for the money you spent, for example $9.00 for a small sandwich and $3.25 for an iced tea. It might be that you leave hungry given the small portions. However the kids menu was a great deal, $2.50 for a half sandwich and fruit cup. read more

We had lunch from their menu. I had the strawberry-pecan salad with balsamic vinaigrette. This was one of the best salads I have ever had! The strawberries were obviously hand-picked. I added the bleu cheese (which was VERY fresh) from my partner's cheese platter since they don't care for bleu cheese. The brie on the cheese platter was AMAZING. The goat cheese was fresh and creamy. The gouda was tasty. The other (I have NO idea what it was) tasted like armpits. Hubby got the Cuban Sandwich and did not like at all. My sister lives in Staunton and is a regular here at The Store. I was excited to come to this wonderful shop and cafe and was not disappointed! The scones were terrific. Nu-Beginning Farm Store/Cafe is a "Foodie" destination worth the trip! This is a small casual cafe/grocery. The menu ingredients and the groceries are, as much as possible, locally sourced from the Shenandoah Valley region. This is not your typical cafe. They serve soups, salads, sandwiches, breakfast, local beer, local wine, and other items similar to other establishments, however, if you have an adventurous palate, there are all kinds of unusual selections to choose from. These folks create amazing food combinations, that I've never heard of, nor even thought of! There are also many options for people with more conventional tastes. The menu hosts vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. There is truly something for everyone. My wife and I opted for a soup and salad combo. She had a Greek salad, with potato leek soup. I had the delicious Greek salad as well, but chose the split pea curry soup. We were both extremely pleased with the quality of the ingredients, the service, and the recipes. I'm looking forward to my next visit to try one of the more unfamiliar choices. If you are looking for something completely different, healthy and delicious, be sure to try the Nu-Beginning Farm Store/Cafe. It is a "stone's throw" from the historic area of Staunton and worth the effort to find it. Another wonderful aspect of our experience was talking with John (one of the owners and a farmer). He gave us pragmatic advice on sustainable methods to deal with Japanese Beetles. It was incredibly interesting to talk with John the farmer, the chef, grocer, business operator, photographer, homesteading teacher, and who knows what else....Wow. If you're into sustainable agriculture, buy fresh-buy local, farm to fork, supporting small business, adventurous recipes, and all phases of food production, you will LOVE this place. Everyone was friendly, even the other customers! Gillian, our server, was exceptionally attentive and motivated. She provided excellent suggestions, and was knowledgeable about the menu, the ingredients, food, cooking, and the grocery inventory. Groceries that caught my eye were - fresh produce, local eggs, and a nifty selection of sauerkrauts. They generously offer samples for some of their products, so that you can try before you buy. They also offer locally made soaps, essential oil mixes, locally roasted coffee beans from all over the world, local honey, local jellies and much more. This is a great place to grab a delectable meal, and pick up outstanding local ingredients for your own culinary creations. Update June 2016 My wife and I have dined at The Store a few times since our original review. Here is what it comes down to. How do you "feel" after you consume the food that have paid for? Do you feel overweight and undernourished? Yes, it costs more than fast food, but your body will thank you. These folks are more into the consumer and the farmers than getting rich. Everyone always seem glad to be there, whether they are customers or staff, which, to me, says a lot about a place. The food (I haven't tried anything off of the menu, only grocery items) is shabby. The produce is rarely fresh, the bread is often moldy and I don't believe that they label anything to keep track of how old it is. I went there to get coffee beans at one point; the employee (younger, looked like a mary baldwin student) approached me, snatched the coffee from my hands, and then ground it on the espresso setting without asking me how I wanted it ground. Other than the store being run poorly (which makes me very depressed considering how I can't get a job anywhere in this absurd town) the quality of the food and produce from the suppliers is great initially. It just seems to go to crap because of either poor hiring, or shoddy training. Sorry for the bad review farmers. I know it isn't all your fault, but you need to train the underlings. read more

We were in town for a running race and this delightful restaurant is located in an inconspicuous strip mall right across the hotel parking lot. The staff was friendly and the bagel with lox was delicious. They had my order ready in under five minutes. Just excellent! Nothing to look at tucked away in a strip mall but the food is delicious. Husband had the meatloaf sandwich special, I had a chicken salad sandwich. Both options could have been dull and ordinary but it may have been the best chicken salad I have ever eaten and the bread! Oh the bread was terrific. What an incredible find during our recent visit to Staunton! Farm fresh eggs and cheese grits are to die for! Fresh made scones (we sampled every flavor...!) with butter, fresh local jelly and fresh cream were the BEST we have ever tasted. Very moist....
