Once he got our last payment, getting the pool completed was like pulling teeth. He didn't properly supervise his workers so things were done incorrectly. The plumbing was put in backwards and had to be reworked. The electrician was putting the electric box in backwards and we caught it. Chris was rarely there when the work was being done. I would have to send him pictures or call him when we noticed something being done incorrectly. We had to stay on him constantly to get the pool completed. Every little thing that needed to be finished, I felt like I had to beg just to get it done. We discovered a jet that wasn't working that he tried to convince me was just plugged with plaster. Once he finally sent someone out here, we found out that the plumbing wasn't even connected, so they had to dig several feet under the decking to connect it. I have expressed concerns over the appearance of the plaster since the day it was sprayed. 10 months later, he is still trying to blame it on my pool service, even though I was texting him pictures and expressing concern about the plaster the day it was sprayed and the days following and have been trying to get this resolved off and on over the past 10 months. His response basically is too bad and he passes the buck...trying to blame it on my pool service. We spent a lot of money on this pool and instead of trying to do the right thing and fix the plaster, he texts me that I am wrong and this is not his fault. He sent people out that specifically told me that the issue was with his start-up chemical service. When I told him that, he told me that I was wrong...when he didn't even bother to show up to this meeting...and when I asked his guys when they told me this to please make sure that they explained it to Chris that the problem was with his start-up chemical guy not doing the chemicals correctly since he keeps trying to blame my pool service. We were never even given instructions for start-up for our pool! Once the pool was filled, I had no idea what I was even supposed to do to make sure the pool cured correctly. Chris' customer service is terrible, and his demeanor is shockingly unprofessional. I was fooled in the beginning with his sales pitch. Don't be fooled. Don't walk - BUT RUN AWAY from this pool builder. I have noticed with other complaints written about Chris Michaels that he has an excuse why it isn't his fault...but don't fall for it. I am sure that he has built some great pools. However, when there is a problem, he won't own up to it and do what needs to be done to correct it. We have another friend that used him and is not happy with Chris Michaels either...we just wish we would have found out before we signed a contract with him. I am a small business owner and I would never treat my customers the way I have been treated by Chris Michaels. If I did, I would not be in business very long. Don't take a chance with this pool builder. Save yourself a lot of grief. Dealing with him on this pool has been one of my worst construction nightmares.

It may be beneficial for you to be present during the installation to make sure you are getting the results you want. Some subcontractors did a good job, while others did not. I had to hire someone to fix a few of the items done by his subcontractors after the job was completed. Richard is not very detail-oriented, so you will need to stay on top of things and communicate in writing to avoid any misunderstandings, as some details were occasionally forgotten. I work in construction, and finding a good, detail-oriented contractor who treats your job as their own is quite challenging. If you choose to work with Richard, it's important to manage your expectations. I tend to be very detail-oriented, and when I read the other review about him on here I almost did not to hire him. However, after working with him, I wanted to provide more detailed feedback to help determine if he would be the right fit for you. If you are more easygoing and don't prioritize details, you may find that he suits your needs. I would agree with the other reviewer on here that after the job is finished, it may be difficult to get a response if any issues arise. I used Richard for my pergola, fireplace, grill, and bar. I used another company for my pavers which was Chad at Environmental Standards Construction. I would highly recommend Chad and his team. They were great!

Right now my hot tub is green and dirty, there is algae on the sides of my pool and dirt at the bottom . This is the second time this week they've come to "clean". I'm going with another service. I called pool cleaning servies around the Friday before Memorial Day weekend, our pool was in dire need of help. We'd been trying to keep it clean and nothing was working. He was the only one who was willing to come out the next day to check it out and had a fair price. He came by around 1000am, early, and waiting in his truck didn't barge in like he owned the place like some pool cleaning companies around here..... Very knowledgeable, and professional, did a chemical test to test the water and told us sadly we would need to drain our pool. He was not rushed, stayed to talk and explain the process. Offered a good 5-6day plan to get the pool back in shape after it gets filled and tips on emptying/filling it. We will be continuing to use their service. Their communication is great, and so is there service/pricing. That's all you can ask for. Update- Turns our inside of our filter needed to be replaced, but as soon as we did out our pool went from green to consistently blue - ignore the review below a good filter is SUPER important for a pool. If you can't afford a new filter good luck just cleaning it with "chemicals" the bad filter will bring the algea right back in. Just like a water filter that needs to be changed for your drinking water....
