I especially appreciated hearing real world perspectives from Chads experience as a retired police officer. The class was exciting engaging and practical without being overwhelming. They were such fun little touch and definitely made class even more enjoyable. Thank you Chad and Mindy for amazing experience.

You can tell they truly care about safety, education, and making sure everyone leaves confident and well-prepared. The class met at a round table pizza in one of their side party rooms, and there was only two of us in the class, again what should I expect for such a great price? Morgan was on time and very friendly, and got everything set up. The material covered and instruction given was very casual but thorough. Unlike many renewal classes with other companies, Morgan didn't have a cocky tough guy know it all attitude which made the class enjoyable. The amount of information and material he covered was great, and it took the entire class time. A bonus to meeting at Round Table was the lunch, which he paid for as part of the class so that was unexpected and nice. We met a separate day at the range to qualify with each handgun and he booked it so our time was 1-on-1 which I really appreciated. Again, he was extremely knowledgeable and safe, but still didn't give off that cocky know it all taught guy vibe. The instruction he gave, tips and guidance to improve grip, stance and other areas was extremely helpful. I have already recommended his class to multiple friends and I will definitely book with him again at my next renewal.

Luckily for me, I've moved to God's land - Placer county, where all day I sing: Home, home on the range, Where the deer and the antelope play, Where seldom is heard a discouraging word, And the skies are not cloudy all day! Also, they like guns up here. They REALLY like their guns up here. The media would like stricter gun laws equal a safer community. Placer county is very pro-gun and wouldn't you know - we have one of the lowest crime rates IN THE NATION. Not just in California, not just on the West Coast, but in the good 'ole U S of A. I have availed myself of such goodness but I must confess, I am not a good shot. I've never received any formal training. I've been to the range many, many times but my idea of a good day a the range is putting holes through the target, not really paying attention to my form or shot groups that I formed, etc. I did, however, want to be more comfortable with my collection of toys and recently decided that I would like the ability to defend myself and my family should the situation ever arise and so I started looking into obtaining my CCW permit. There's so many instructors in this area but one that kept coming up in my searches was STRFI. Josh is the owner and instructor at STRFI, which he does as a hobby and because he loves shooting. He's an Army veteran with lots of experience training troops in all facets of shooting and he also sponsors a team of professional shooters. I was a bit intimidated at first because I thought that with all that experience, he would look down on me as a beginner. But that was TOTALLY not the case. Josh was very patient in teaching me the basics - nonclamenture, types of guns, grip, stances, etc. What I noticed about Josh is that he put himself in the students' shoes. He was teaching us on our level, not his, which made the environment very conducive to learning. He was also very knowledgeable in the Penal Code and removed all the jargon in order to explain it in a way that a layman such as I could understand. His teaching style was very lively and upbeat and full of jokes. It made for a very relaxing class, full of interesting facts. I really did learn a lot during my class time. What really shined though was the range time. After spending 2 hours with Josh, I went from a shot group as big as the State of California to a very tight shot group, even multiple shots through the same hole. If I, a beginner, was able to do that with only 2 hours of range training with Josh, I imagine that an advanced shooter would become a championship level shooter! I give my highest recommendation to Josh and STRFI for your training needs, whether it be for your CCW permit or just overall shooting in general. Thanks again Josh! Can't wait to work with you again!

Unfortunately, that excitement disappeared as soon as I had to deal with Zach Young. After making my online purchase, the confirmation email said the shop would contact me when my paperwork was ready. Apparently, that part is optional because nobody contacted me. I had to call and follow up myself. Zach said I should have received an email--which I didn't--and confirmed the paperwork was ready. I asked if they had time for me to come in that day. Zach replied, "No, we have 20-30 people lined up outside." Great customer service right out of the gate. I laughed off the attitude and went in anyway. The in-person experience was just as enjoyable as the phone call. Zach was short, dismissive, and acted like helping a paying customer was an inconvenience. He noticed the veteran status on my ID and asked which branch I served in. When I answered, he said, "Eww, get out of my shop." Normally, I have no problem with friendly banter between branches. However, when someone has already been dickish, it doesn't come across as a joke--it just adds to the poor experience. I finished the paperwork and was given a return date. Once again, no email or notification letting me know I was cleared for pickup. Apparently, customers are expected to manage the shop's follow-up process themselves. I called, and lucky me, I got Zach again with the same warm and welcoming customer-service voice. He said I was cleared, so I returned to pick up my purchase. His attitude was exactly the same: short, dismissive, and clearly annoyed that he had to deal with a customer. The shop itself is cool and has a good selection. I was genuinely excited to find a local place I could continue doing business with, but Zach made sure that won't happen. I will not return, and I definitely would not recommend this shop based on the service I received.
