Went in for my first hair color appointment here on 8/19/17 with Kaitlin Moore. We spent 10 minutes discussing what it was that I was looking for and hoping to achieve. Also viewed pictures of color that I liked. I appreciated how she not only gave me her professional opinion on which color(s) to use, but she also explained in detail what she was going to do. She was very thorough and I can't say thank you enough for her taking the time to do all that. My color turned out beautiful and I am so happy with the results. Kaitlin is awesome! I've also been in one time a few weeks ago and had a hair cut with Megan Hamlin. She was the same in discussing with me what would be best for my hair and lifestyle. I like low maintenance. I haven't had short hair in over 6 years and was hesitant to cut it. Megan did great and I love my shorter hair...more than I thought I would. Thanks ladies!! read more

Nsalo Salon - Love how the color turned out - Hair Salons Near Me - Wilmington, North Carolina

Couldn't love this place more. I get so many compliments on my hair. So thankful for Abby and Rhea- they keep me looking good!

This is one occasion where Yelp steered me wrong. I had the worst salon experience of my life here - an awful cut and color. My appointment started 30 minutes late. I can understand running 10-15 mins behind, but 30 minutes is completely unprofessional, and all they offered me while I was waiting was water. Also unprofessional was one stylist bringing his dog and his girlfriend into the salon to just chill out. Sorry, I know this is Wilmington, but a dog in a salon is unhygienic. I have dark blond hair and requested honey gold highlights and lowlights. The colorist insisted on using a toner on my hair after doing my foils. I had previous bad experiences with toners making my hair overly ashy, and I explained my trepidation to her, but she said it would be fine. Well, as soon as she rinsed my hair and sat me down in the chair I could see in the mirror that my hair was a dirty-dishwasher disaster. Not only was the color explicitly what I told her to avoid, you couldn't see any highlights or dimension in my hair, thus making the foils a complete waste of time and money. I was devastated. She said "Just wait until it's dry - it will be fine." No amount of drying could have made my color look better. (The next day at home I tried to fade the toner as much as I could by shampooing with Dawn). Next was the cut, which for some reason was with a different stylist, a guy, obviously new on staff. I told him I just wanted a trim but he talked me into getting bangs. I had been considering bangs for a while so I told him to go for it - big mistake. He tried to give me bangs with an extreme side part/side swipe. This aesthetic did not fit with my personal style at all, and it is next to impossible to get my very thick hair to stay parted all the way over to the side like that. He then proceeded to start styling my hair with very blunt edges and an Emo/rocker chick look that is not me AT ALL. At this point I said "stop!" and started bawling. I have never cried in a salon before or made a stylist stop in his or her tracks - but these people were just destroying me. They tried to "fix" my cut and color but there was only so much they could do. The were completely oblivious to the nature of my hair, my personal style, and to my requests. At one point I tried AGAIN to communicate to the colorist that I wanted a warm honey blond color and she honestly said, "well, I don't know what you mean by honey." Wtf?? I mean the color of honey!! What planet are we on?? Meanwhile, I was never offered so much as a tissue as I sat there crying, completely frustrated and demoralized. I was charged the full price for my services. I didn't try to argue it because I just wanted to get out of there. The owner/manager was not on duty at the time and I considered contacting him to get my money back or to ask him to fix it, but I had no desire to return to this place. If you're a guy and just want a trim, you'll probably be OK here. And if you want a cookie-cutter '08 emo ashy hairdo, this is the place to go. Otherwise, avoid. read more

This was the first hair salon I went to in north carolina. Diedre did my color and it was amazing, but my cut wasn't as great, which is why I'm only giving them three stars. (More like 3.5). I had simply said I needed to be able to pull my hair into a low bun for work, yet my top layer was so short I could never get it into any sort of pony tail. The appointment also took just over three hours with over an hour being spent on the cut. Overall, it was just mediocre at best. read more

Back drop: I was in a desperate state to fix my hair that was incorrectly cut by someone claiming to know how to cut curls. I tried on 2 separate occasions at a local salon: The first cut, one stylist gave me awkward layers and she angled the front of my hair (nearest to my face) and it came up shorter than requested. The second occasion a master stylist attempted to correct the previous stylists' mistake and she too, came up with the short stick and still didn't fix it. After a few months of letting my hair grow out from that avalanche-type disaster I began looking for hair salons outside my local area and stumbled upon NSalo Salon's website. Their bios on each stylist were great; Rhea's caught my attention with a line that mentioned she too had curly hair. I did read some online (Yelp) reviews from many years earlier that were not as positive but Google reviews reassured me. I scheduled an appt anyway giving them the benefit of the doubt. During my appt with Rhea Pemberton we talked styles, daily expectations, and past haircuts. She thoroughly scrutinized my hair and I felt very relaxed during our talk. She explained every last detail on what she would do to fix my hair completely without making it too short. I thought to myself..... "PPff! We shall see about that"...... Spoiler Alert: Boy was I wrong to doubt her!!! She managed to give me one of the best haircuts I've had in such a long time with a cut that I've never actually tried! The curls were bouncier and healthy and really contoured to my face. This excitement was short lived because I was about to face the bigger challenge later that week: washing and styling it myself in hopes of duplicating her creation. Success! I managed to recreate it using her helpful advice for curls and now I have bouncy less frizzy curls on a daily basis! I wish I would have gone to her sooner but now that I've found a place I love I'll be a frequent visitor. My recommendation would be to try out the salon because I gave them an opportunity to work on my hair and they surpassed my expectations. read more

If you have long hair and want keep it, stay away! If you have thick hair, stay away! The stylist Raina destroyed my long thick hair. S

I have been coming to N'salo for about 7 years. Roby, the owner, travels and gives the most precise cuts of anyone I have ever seen. As a educator for Toni and Guy he imparts his knowledge to his staff which reflects in my appearance. Kristen has been cutting my family's hair on a regular basis for at least 3 years. She is consistent and she does a stellar job. I travel and when I get a cut elsewhere I get a photo and the difference is noticeable. I travel several hours for a cut, and only out of desperation do I go elsewhere and regret it. If your stylist is only educated at a technical school or YouTube and is missing a professional academy I would suggest stepping up to a better cut. After all, you head (face and hair) is the first part of your body everyone looks at. Make it memorable. read more

Absolutely love love love Nsalo Salon!!! Abbie, who i call a color genius, does my hair. She does it exactly how i imagine it every time i come in!!! Kat usually cuts and styles my hair perfectly as well. I honestly haven't had one bad person in that salon! The absolute best salon I have ever been to. I'm from Dallas, and when I moved here, I expected to find a salon that left a lot to be desired compared to what I was used to. N'salo is better than any salon I've ever been to in Dallas or anywhere else. Abbie is incredible, and so good at what she does (colorist), and my haircuts from Sarah are always exactly what I want. I'm moving to VA in the next few weeks and seriously considering driving back down to get my hair done here they're that good read more

This is the only place I go for a haircut. My stylist, Rhea, is a master and always does a perfect job! She is not afraid of my thick, long, naturally curly hair and always delivers exactly what I am looking for. So happy I found her! read more

Kristen cuts my hair perfectly every time...does exactly what I request and I am very happy with her. Abby does my color and again, I have been happy every time. Neither one of them ever runs late and every one in the salon is very professional. I've been a client at NSalo for over a year, and am always very happy with the services provided. I see Nina for color and Kristen for my cut - both are great. No one pushes product. All of the staff are friendly and make you feel welcome. read more

I CANNOT believe I am the first person on Yelp to review this place. I just visited the salon this week for the first time based on the recommedation of two good friends. When I called for an appointment on short notice, they were able to book me for the next day for full foil highlights and a cut - major plus. I was scheduled with Melissa for my color, and Tim for my cut. Both of them did a great job. Both LISTENED to what I wanted and helped me make the best decisions based on the color and type of hair I had. Melissa was honest and helpful in deciding how to go about correcting the color and shade of my hair and the outcome was a) as expected, and b) beautiful. Tim gave me a precise, detail oriented cut that looked almost exactly like the photograph I provided him with as an example. He explained what each Tigi product he put in my hair did and when my hair was done he gave me tips on how to get the same results at home. In addition to the great cut and color, the atmosphere was pleasently 'not you granny's beauty parlor', as their slogan goes. The music was interesting and eclectic, as is the decor. All the way around, my experience there was a positive one. I will be a return customer for sure, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them in the future. read more

I went yesterday to this salon with below the shoulder 1-length hair and brought 4 pictures of a slightly angled haircut that I wanted. I asked to keep the front of my hair as is and to cut the back a little shorter to get the angled look I wanted. I told the stylist that I was ok with layers in the back like the pictures I showed her. The problem is that I left with ZERO angle (which was the purpose for my appt), choppy layers everywhere including the front that I wanted to stay as was, the right side of my hair is now an inch+ longer than the left, and a broken self esteem. read more

I havelived in Wilmington for 22 years and have been searching for a stylist. Many have stated thay are but Rhea at Nsalo is the first true stylist I have found here. She knows how to determine the style just for your face and lifestyle. I recommend her to all even those of us over the age of 50 read more

I tried this salon on the recommendation of my previous hair stylist who moved out of state. I guess I should have realized they were higher than most places when the receptionist made me an appointment for a hair cut with one person and color with another person, but just thought the first person was overbooked. First of all, they are "compartmentalized" which means only some people cut and only some people color, no one does both. Hence, you will be here forever because they will cut your hair, dry it and style the cut, then color it dry it and style it again. The receptionist had to keep going out and putting more money on my meter since I was parked on the street and not in the garage! Coincidentally each person charges a high price for their service. I was charged $100 for the cut alone, then $130 for hombre. Nothing special, not corrective color. Basically I spent about $80 more than usual on cut and color. If the outcome had been something spectacularly different from what I came in with I would say it was worth the money. However, my color was average and my cut had a strange layer that didn't blend. read more
