11/10 would recommend!! I have had the blessing to be apart of this academy for about 7 years and can say with confidence that my passion for Kathak keeps on growing. The combination of grace, vigorous technicality, creativity, and passion that is obvious in the way Bhairaviji and her Senior Troupe dance is infectious. She is caring, patient, and equally honest with all her students. She pushes us hard without ever making it feel like the improvement she expects from us is impossible or overwhelming. There is a great balance in her style of teaching between focus on the teachnical and expressive aspects of Kathak. The biannual productions are a true blast and motivation for every student. I'm amazed by her extensive knowledge in the art's technique, repertoire and history. Despite the fact that she herself teaches over 100 students all around southern California, Bhairaviji will pretty much never cancel or come late to class. And on the rare occasions that a class is cancelled, she is addement about making time for make-up lessons. All of her Senior Troupe dancers carry an obvious commitment and drive to share their knowledge/experiences. They are always willing to help. They've mastered the technical aspects of this form, excel artistically, and are great with all the students. Bhairavi Aunty has a heart of gold. Its obvious that she wants everyone of her students to achieve their full potential and deeply emmerse into the amazing, joyous art form. read more

I have been training on and off with Bhairaviji for the past 10 years or so and I feel so fortunate to have Guru like her. She is patient and loving towards all her students, but she challenges us and pushes us to do our best. Her knowledge and proficiency in the art technique and history of Kathak are vast, so there is always something we can learn from her. She is the one and only teacher for the Academy and locations are spread out around the LA and Orange county areas, yet it is very very rare that she will cancel a class or come late. Moreover, she is very generous with her time so if a student wants extra help she is willing to put aside time for private lessons despite her busy schedule. Also, the seniors (most advanced group of dancers) are very kind and helpful in co-teaching/ choreographing. Finally, the annual recitals are spectacular and are treated as a full length ballet. On top of teaching all of her classes Bhairavji performs many of the numbers and it is a treat to watch her. read more

We are blessed beyond words to have found Bhairaviji. She is lot more than just a dance teacher to my daughter. My daughter has been learning from her for the past 6-7 years. We have been driving from San Diego to take lessons with her every week and every time my daughter is done with her class, she is beaming with joy. Bhairaviji treats her like one of her own daughters, showing her the love and care about her dancing along with her school and other activities. The official exams with Hindustan Arts Academy are a bonus where they learn the theory behind this art form. For many this may be just another classical dance training or another "cultural" activity, however, Kathak with Bhairaviji is treated with reverence, details, respect and a lifelong passion for this art form. I have seen two academy production shows, "Anantha: Infinite Possibilities" and "Katha: The Untold Stories of Kathak". Both shows were spectacular and very fun to watch. The shows incorporate talent of all ages and each scene tells a a mini story following a larger all encompassing theme. Best of all, the dancers can seriously dance like none other! You can tell they have spent almost their entire lives practicing their craft. read more
