Nice little shop in WV. Didn't mind my visit at all. The gentleman behind the counter was helpful and talkative. The organization of the shop is a bit random. Don't like that they don't have any dividers in the vinyl or band call-outs. Makes it hard to find what I'm looking for. Pricing is a little all over the place. It's either really high or marked down decently. I did walk away with a few albums that I had wanted. Overall I was pleased but probably wouldn't go out of my way to make the trip again. read more

I believe this is Huntington's only record shop. A large selection of CDs and DVDs up front and a large amount of vinyl in the back. For the vinyl they have a small selection of new on the left and a much larger used selection going back from there and wrapping over to the right side of the store. None of the records are grouped by genre, just by new or used. In the center section is Record Store Day releases, along with boxes of unmarked used vinyl (these boxes are unalphabetized I believe). And then along the floor on the walls are even more records. I'm guessing these are the $1 variety. The strangest thing about their used selection is the sheer number of the same release they will stock. For instance they may have 20 or more copies of a popular Pat Benetar record. And the 20 copies might range in price from $3.98 to $9.98. There might even be an original still sealed copy in the mix but it's $7.98. It gives me the impression that the records are haphazardly and arbitrarily priced. Most of the used records skew expensive but with the arbitrary pricing it's certainly possible to find a good deal or two. I certainly did. And I also successfully haggled with the worker for two I wanted but were overpriced. All in all this place is worth a stop if you're hopelessly addicted to vinyl like me and find yourself in town. read more

3/5/21 Another store I went to went I wasn't buying comics. I had a habit of collecting classical music from movie soundtracks. This is also where I picked up Marilyn Manson's Sweet Dreams. Yeah I know, not my finest moment, but I was young. I also was tired of hearing Christian music being played next door to my room. Can't say I made many friends this way, but some of the Christian group already made their minds up about me anyhow. I ended up joining another Christian group that wasn't as judgemental, but that is another story. Now Hear This was a store where you could trade in your old music and get credit for other music. I did this a lot and found great selections. Right now Marilyn Manson is the only name I can remember. Oh yeah, Marcy Playground (Sex&Candy), The Cure and Scream 1&2 Soundtracks. From the photos I have seen, the place looks different. This was back in 1997 and 1998. Yeah, I am that old. This store is great. Hope to revisit Marshall University and other places again one day. read more

I love this record shop. New vinyl is on the upside in price, but their selection is far superior than the record shops in my hometown of Charleston. They also have some CDs and I think cassettes, along with DVDs and I think I saw some old VHS tapes, but I only go there for the vinyl. The people working there have always been friendly and one guy, I'm guessing the owner or store manager, even told me he would try to grow his heavy metal selection after I told him that's what I was most interested in. My only complaint is that their used vinyl section needs a better labeling system. read more

Great store to find rare, hard to find music. They have a huge selection and have been around Huntington for a long time. This is their new location which is much improved. The staff have always been helpful and they often feature local artist. As far as dogfighting dvds, I have never seen one there and I have been shopping there for about 20 years. Not saying they aren't there, but I have never seen them. read more

This place is incredibly overpriced for my liking. Their used CDs ought be a few bucks cheaper. New stuff is about the same price as anywhere else, which is, of course, also expensive. No surprise everyone steals their music now. This place used to have a somewhat significant used vinyl section but it was moved to a damp back room where the records will inevitably get moldy and lose all value. It does carry it's fair share of non-mainstream stuff so it isn't a bad option to find music. Also had a nice array of live videos/DVDs the last time I stopped in. read more

Great place for vintage Vinyl or CD's. They also do disc resurfacing for a very good rate and the staff is all nice and helpful. I'd recommend it to anyone especially since they've moved to their new location and gotten rid of their "Seedier" section. read more

They sell used nudie magazines. Their vinyl is more expensive than most record shops in NYC. New CDs are $15 - $20. Used CDs are almost $10. What's to like?? They have a couple gems in the new vinyl section, but you will overpay for them. read more

How does a place like this stay in business? I've never been in there when I wasn't the only person in the store and the cashier didn't scope me out the whole time like I was there only to shoplift. The way this store does record store day is ridiculous. Now, say what you will about the corporate holiday, but for some music fans, it's the only way to hear certain music from some artists. Now, instead of letting a couple people in at a time or taking requests, they just opened up their doors at 8 and it suddenly became a frenzy with 25-30 people looking for specific releases in a cramped space. Now, if they had placed the records around the store, that would have been understandable, but instead the owners of Now Hear This decided to place all the new RSD releases into six or so boxes on two tables that were about 4 feet apart. This basically made is so the first two or three people over there were able to grab like 85% of the records worth getting, (which, yeah that's subjective, but still). Moreover, most record stores i've been to for RSD have a general store wide sale on records, but not Now Hear This! So, after I had accepted defeat, I browsed the general releases and picked up two records I had been eying for a minute. When I went to pay, they then decided to inform me they didn't accept my card, but thankfully I had cash. I'll definitely be going back to my hometowns record store next RSD. read more
