Please do not reach out to or count on this firm. We worked with Steven for two years without…read moreincident - I wouldn't say he did a great job or was particularly communicative but our taxes always got filed and we aren't aware of errors. However this past year he dodged my emails/phone calls, my husband's emails/phone calls, and my elderly mother's emails/phone calls (we all file separately). He once picked up the phone and then pretended to be someone else when he realized I was calling for an update on my taxes. He lied to us about filing for an extension and took forms from my mother that he never returned. Ultimately he stopped replying entirely and we had to look for a new accountant, several months after the filing deadline. I just got a notice that I owe several thousand dollars in late filing fees because it turns out he also lied about getting an extension. I don't know what is going on and while I wish Steven no ill will, please do not work with this firm or him. I don't want this to happen to anyone else.

Update 2/13: A partner at Capitol CPA reached out to me to apologize for the situation and explain…read morewhat happened. I was more than satisfied with their explanation and eagerness to earn my business and trust. I've taken them up on the offer to work with them so have updated the review initially and provide a final review once completed. ______________________________ Let me say the reason I reached out to Capitol CPA is because of their excellent reviews and they were my first pick. However, it's difficult to go with a company or trust them with your taxes when they can't even respond to you in a timely manner or at all. Let me detail my experience below: December 16, 2019: Send an inquiry through their website asking about availability for new clients. Receive a response from Steven that they're currently evaluating their capacity and will get back to me in a week. I respond immediately asking if I should follow up in a week or if they'll let me know? *CRICKETS* December 26, 2019: Ask for an update. Hear nothing, follow up with an inquiry through their website December 31, 2019: Receive a response from Steven apologizing for letting this slip through the cracks. They have room for new clients and ask for information. I respond an hour later with the information. *CRICKETS* January 19, 2019: Another follow up. Ask for an update. *CRICKETS* January 31, 2019: I give up. I reached out to three other companies and they immediately responded, asked for my tax information which I provided, and... immediately responded. So thank you Capitol CPA for wasting my time.

We had the same issue, we asked a…read morefew additional questions based on what we believed was necessary as a client, and we got this retribution response. As the other reviewer mentioned, I believe if you are willing to let Jay do it all, he is actually probably proficient, but any curves and retribution can occur. We were stunned by his response to us but where THANKFUL he did his retribution PRIOR to any work with him. We moved on but I felt it was necessary to leave a comment for others to be aware. I will say this with Jay, treat your clients properly, or face reviews like this... it is simple. Be respectful to those who ask questions - there is nothing wrong with questions as the saying goes "there is no stupid question".

So why two years to post? I had chosen not to say anything at the time of the parting and leave…read morethe "dismal process" alone. I honestly didn't want to influence anyone's decision nor damage Jay's business. Yes I did use the words "dismal" but the rest of his portrayal is not true and yes that's why a year after he posted his response I'm posting again too. I was meticulous with tabbed spreadsheets and organized paperwork - there was never just a pile of paper or box of receipts I don't operate that way. But in 2021 when I saw on NextDoor comments and questions about local CPAs, I wanted people to know it's not all rosy working with Mr. Reiner. Like I said, if you follow his rules it's good but don't deviate. I hope that clears up the motivation for my time delay.

Well I had came from a wonderful lady who has prepare my taxes for the last 10 years and she had passed due to COVID19- If i was to move forward with him, I had some questions. 1. Base off what he saw how much I made, would i be getting a return or owe in general obviously he wouldn't know but he as in SME in taxes should have an idea. 2. His estimate seem high and about 3x what Ive been paying. Anyways he send me back this ridiculous email about how you cant get turbo tax for 1/3 of his price. Price is key but Customer service beats all. If you cant answer questions and get mad easily this was a transaction that Im glad I didn't go thru with. He seem like a Grumpy old man. Dont let his profile pic full you.
