Three months of dealing with a nagging Achilles' tendon strain led me to reconnect with Dr…read more Ribeiro. The pain would start early in the morning, as soon as I hit the floor, then subside after about 2 hours. During the pain period, I would have to stretch the tendon then continue with my normal activities. I contacted the office and was able to get an early appt with no problem. Next, I downloaded and completed the new patient forms in advance to speed processing. Shortly after I arrived, Dr. Ribiero did a physical exam then captured 3 different X-rays and explained the images. Luckily, I had no bone spurs, calcification, etc. but thanks to the X-rays she did noticed a slight drop in one of my arches. She gave me a prescription for an anti inflammatory, a sheet with recommended Achilles stretches, and recommendations to her fave running stores to get sneakers and inserts to more adequately support my high arches. My strain and pain have improved substantially and it's only been 3 days. The good doctor believes this issue will completely go away as long as I'm careful and continue the course of treatment. I absolutely love Dr. Ribeiro's chair-side manner and her new contemporary office. If you have any foot or ankle issues, give her a try. She very thorough and cares about her patients!

I found Dr. Ribeiro on Yelp so it's only fair that I pay it forward with a review. I've had flat…read morefeet my entire life, ankle problems since I broke it in the 6th grade, and arthritis in my foot about about 4 years now. All of that and I still can't stop playing basketball and running around outside like a big kid. Needless to say, I hurt on a pretty regular basis. I've been to other practitioners who usually just focus on one of my issues, leading to minimal relief because they're all pretty interrelated. Dr. Ribeiro is the first person to treat my pain and then offer exercises and orthotics for strength and support. She has a great bedside manner, listens, and is very analytical in her assessment. That's a rarity with the medical professionals in this area who have a habit of trying to rush appointments and get you out the door in 10 minutes or less (after you've waited in the lobby for 30!). My discomfort is noticeably less frequent so I wont be seeing her as much as I've seen other practitioners for my lower extremity issues but she is definitely my choice for foot & ankle care.

I can't tell you how saddened I am to write this review. I went to see Dr. Petko on several…read moreoccasions for issues relating to my feet. I paid for the inserts, paid for the cortisone shots and therapy. I did this all out of network because I figured that as a runner, he would know feet. My pain didn't heal. At all. I still walk around with pain in my several hundred dollar inserts. Then, a few months later, I get a bill saying that I still owe money that my insurance didn't pay. I told the woman, very nicely, that while the cost was not much, I couldn't pay for something that I didn't receive: good medical care. Well, she disagreed and sent me to a collections agency. I was taken aback by this. Truly taken aback. If a patient says, "I still hurt," should the doctor call you back to see what was wrong? If I wanted cortisone shots, I would have just gone in network. Not out of network to be taken to a collections agency. Shameful business practice and I will, in case you guessed, never be back.

I've been putting off getting new orthodics for about five years, out of fear of non-coverage, needing referrals, etc. Finally, i was desperate enough to face whatever potential financial hardship would come my way. From first phone call to the end of the appointment, they were great! The woman at the front desk was very friendly on the phone and when we were discussing appointment times, she was able to get me in that evening due to a cancellation- sweet! Also, she called me 20 minutes later to get a phone number for my insurance so that she could find out whether my plan would cover orthodics, which I thought was great. I had to wait about 45 minutes before I saw Dr. Petko, which was slightly frustrating. However, all the staff and Dr. Petko were extremely apologetic throughout my visit and the doctor let me know that an emergency broken ankle had come in... certainly more important than my foot moldings, so I understood and didn't mind that they made me wait! Like the other yelp review, Dr. Petko is very knowledgeable and spent a lot of time talking to me about my long history of running, injuries, and physical therapy. I don't know if it was because I had to wait so long or because i was the last appointment of the night, but it was refreshing to not have a doctor do the standard "friendly-but-i-got-another-appointment-in-fifteen-minutes-so-lets-hurry-it-up" attitude. I didn't find him to have a "stoic demeanor", though- he was very friendly and i felt like he talked to me runner-to-runner. It felt nice to have a doctor who can relate to and wants to look after my ability to continue doing what I love to do. Would definitely recommend!

Then they charged me $50 for being a "no show" at my original appointment day. I told them I had changed the appointment day and I refused to pay the "no show" fine. I wrote a letter to the doctor explaining why I would not pay the fine. But I still am getting monthly bills for $50 from this practice. When I went for another appointment, the checkin clerk told me I owe $50. Dr. Mendelsohn is a competent doctor. But it appears that this practice has been bought by a hedge fund and is interested only in fees.

I would not recommend Dr. Mendelsohn and this practice at all. For many reasons which I'll list…read morehere: 1) There are multiple names for this practice at this location: 1313 Dolley Madison Blvd Suite 403, McLean, VA 22101. Text messages state "Foot & Ankle Specialist of the Mid-Atlantic", Building sign is "McLean Foot and Ankle Center", and website says "Family foot & Ankle Specialist." Which makes it super confusing to find but easy to cover up when patients have a bad experience and want to leave an honest review. A little digging and I see previous bad reviews on google and the claim is that "Family Foot and Ankle closed in 2021." Well why is the website still up and I can make an online appt with Dr. Mendelsohn and other podiatrist??? At the very least, change your website if this practice has indeed been closed since 2021. They have been gaslighting other patients when they get bad reviews. That's my first red flag. 2) The X-ray machine was old and wobbly. When I went to get an xray for my foot, I had to hold it in place so it would not keep moving. 3) Nobody answers the phone at this practice to be able to ask questions or make appointments. Called about a dozen times over 2 weeks and went to voicemail every time. Had to finally schedule an appt online to pick up my orthotics and didn't have correct option for why I needed to visit. 4) Received multiple text messages and emails nagging me to a pay for a bill for orthotics that had not yet been delivered. The link to pay also did not give an itemized invoice to state what I was paying for. I am not going to pay a bill via an email or text message for things without enough details to ensure it is not a scam nor will I pay for an item that has not been delivered. Poor business practice. 5) It's also ridiculous that I have to pay a $50 Co-pay to come and pick up ordered product when Dr. Mendelsohn barely did anything to ensure fit aside from cutting it to size (which i could have done at home). He did not check to see my stance or my walking gait. He did not check for any areas of pressure or discomfort and make necessary adjustments to ensure the orthotic provides optimal support and comfort and to see if the correction was suitable. I was rushed in and out. He literally spent less than 5mins w/ me and handed me paper with info on orthodics. 6) Had to repeatedly ask for an itemized invoice and receipt to be able to use for HSA account reimbursement and was only given a printed out ledger. Then the office manager argued with me that it should work fine for HSA reimbursement. I know it won't for my HSA reimbursement b/c I've tried multiple times with other ledgers from other practices and have always been denied. Honestly, I spent more time trying to get an invoice than I did getting seen by Dr. Mendelsohn. 7) My feet still hurt and I refuse to waste my time and money going to a practice that does not answer phones, has shady business practices, and the Dr. rushes you in and out. Bottom line: WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY, POOR BUSINESS PRACTICES, INSUFFICIENT MEDICAL CARE, I DO NOT TRUST A THING THEY SAY.
