I saw Dr. Coster because of plantar fasciitis symptoms. His remedy was to have foot tapings done by his office and to take 1600 mg of ibuprofen daily for three weeks. When I asked if there were other treatment options we could explore before taking all that medication he replied "not if you want to get better." He also sold me $80 shoe inserts, which the office billing person said my insurance would not pay for. When I told her my insurance did cover prescribed medical equipment at 100%, she said no it definitely would not pay for the inserts and requested the $80, which I paid. (the same inserts are on Amazon for $47.)
Not wanting to heavily medicate before exploring options, I found many examples on the internet of people having cured their plantar fasciitis by rolling golf balls or frozen water bottles below their feet. Coster never mentioned this (or anything other than medication, additional foot tapings by his office and inserts sold by his office) as treatment options, but I immediately started doing it, without medicating, and within a month my plantar fasciitis was completely gone.
My insurance then did immediately pay Coster's office the full amount for the inserts, so I assumed his office would issue a refund for my $80 overpayment. After three months that had not happened, so I called their billing office to inquire why I had not been refunded and if they were planning on just keeping my $80 double payment, and was told "oh I'm glad you called because we don't really have a way of knowing that this had been paid twice." ?? read more
