I have been a patient of Dr. Nisha Patel for over 15 years. She has taken excellent care of my eyes all these years, which included cataract surgery and glaucoma. I have never had a bad experience with her. It is true that wait time is sometime a little long, but the assistant does all the follow-up tests by the time Dr. Patel sees me and goes over all the tests and results and follow-up care. I am grateful for the quality care she provides. I would not think of going to anyone else. read more

I have never written a yelp review but my experience today inspired me to download. I don't know how these reviews help but if I can direct someone away from the experience I had it's worth it. I went today because I recently have been having blurred vision and it's very scary. My primary referred me here because of insurance and dr patel made it clear I was her last appointment holding her up from going home, and treated me as such. She was dismissive when I told her what was wrong and she gave me dilation drops and left me in a room for 15 mins. This was my first eye doctor experience and she didn't think she needed to mention that these drops would severely impair vision to the point I couldn't read my phone or any words around me. When she got back I was in a panic and I pointed out she didn't warn me this would happen to which she responded "you didn't ask". She then pointed out how crazy it was I had never been to an eye doctor at age 29 ( as she pointed out I had 20/20 vision). I was there for a scary reason and she rushed me out and treated me poorly. I didn't see her as professional at all never mind empathetic and I think she should work to treat her patients more decently. I couldn't see well enough leaving there to use my gps to get home and had to wait in the parking lot for an hour. Although she pointed out that all of her patients who took the eye drops had no issues. She had no concern for my well being my safety or how scary the situation might have been for me. Dr. Patel is smart, caring and amazing overall. I was referred to her by an emergency room doctor and she saw me the same afternoon. She immediately correctly diagnosed what the ER misdiagnosed - she said I had shingles attacking my eye which is the #1 cause of blindness. I was still in great pain the next morning and her office was closed but she personally opened it up and met me there just so that she could check my eye. Wow! She spent a lot of time carefully looking at my eye and then said that I needed to return to my primary care doctor to have them look at it as well. When I explained that my primary care doctor (Reston IMA) refused to see me and sent me to the ER t!hat very morning, she said "wow, that's not good." I said I had no intention of going back there. I left her office, to return for a checkup the next morning. But lo and behold, I get a call from her at home that afternoon. She says "I found you a primary care doctor - and he is available to see you today!" I was in shock - what doctor goes out of her way to do something like that! I felt touched, cared for, and blessed. What a wonderful doctor and person she is. I give her my highest recommendation. read more

Within the past 15 days, Dr. Patel professionally and successfully performed laser surgery to remove cataracts in both of my eyes. Totally disappointed . i visit with my kids first time this office for my kids eye exam. Appointment was 1.15. Pm and after waiting too long arround 3 15 nurse took us in room .for eye exam. Kids only three years old and they don't know how to properly deal with that . after 10 min. Nurse came back to room and told me to. To cancel the appointment and go for another dr. I was so mad. They waste my 3/1 hr. And told me to go another dr. If they dont know the proper technique how to handle toddler why they making appointment s. Another issue there is no. Another area for kids for their safety. No chairs cleans . i never go back to them 4 hr waste and no output. read more

[similar to another reviewer on here, unsure how much this will help but I just want it out there] I wish I could give 0 stars...Dr. Patel is the WORST doctor I've ever interacted with...I went there for an appt at 12:15 and wasn't seen by the doctor until 1:30...and she RUSHED. Ma'am, why did you overbook if you can't handle your patient load...? (I know the answer is so she can make more $) There was barely an apology from the doctor (her staff was fine as they were apologetic). THEN, she was doing a scan of one of my eyes and told me to look at a light on a side that was NOT there (because she hadn't adjusted her machine to show me the light for that eye). Yet, she had the audacity to tell me "Whatever light you're looking at is wrong...look at the light...no wrong light *audible sighs*" EXCUSE ME? Is there a class this lady missed on how to talk to patients or is it because she doesn't have to *really* care about her patients? I had to take deep breaths to calm myself down and not cause a scene. Then she was checking me out at the front desk and started discussing my medical stuff out in the open with other patients in the waiting room listening...A WHOLE MESS. I was initially referred for a glaucoma visit (so naturally, I should've had a visual field test done before I was dilated...I've confirmed with another office that this is what they do...but Dr. Patel would rather me come back and waste 3 more hours of my life so she can make more $). Dr Patel seemed ok during our visit but now I feel either their office staff is incompetent or the billing person is extremely greedy. We were referred by PCM to see eye doctor and paid co-pay at that time only. However after the visit and a year later we received a notice from debt collectors with a notice to put it as a debt on credit reports. Spoke with our PCM about this and he mentioned doctor/staff may have entered different code then what was required which resulted in this issue. I don't understand whether this doctor's office tries to rip-off their patients by sending this types of letter or it is a genuinely incompetency. I would not recommend this doctor to any friends/family to this doctor who have insurance and suggest others to report their experience if they faced similar issues. Thinking of filling out DHP VA about my experience with this doctor. read more

In almost 30 years living in the US and seeing quite a few doctors, I can honestly say that Dr. Patel is the most inconsiderate and the visit to her office was the most disappointing. After waiting in her waiting room for almost 2 hours, she spent less than 5 minutes with me. No apology for the wait! Not from her, not from her staff. She was probably tired since I was the last patient that day. But that's not an excuse for being inattentive and so quick that I barely had a chance to talk to her. Felt absolutely cheated when I was told that I owe $130 for the visit. For less than 5 minutes!!! If that wasnt enough, yesterday received another bill, for $61! Oh, and by the way (small thing, I know), bill cannot be paid online and there is no return envelope included. read more

Late review- AWFUL practice. The only good thing about this place was a girl at the front, Cloe, who was very friendly. But Nisha Patel only spent five minutes with me and did not listen to my concerns. She just said I was fine and sent me out the door. Highly disappointing. Poor uneducated staff who cant manage appointments properly. I was asked to see a corona specialist for my son for a serious eye condition. First appointment they booked and actually didn't put it in the system. We called 1/2 hour to verify address and they said we do not even have appointment. We again took another appointment which we got after two weeks. They put us on their vienna location where they do not even have topography machine. After waiting and consultation with their nurse staff who didnt even know about eye issues were taking notes for the doctor. After a lot of cross questioning we found that they were scheduling us with optometrist for the consultation because dr patel was not available. So basically we would had to make two appointments. Very dishonest and highly disappointing. We took two days off from work for those two appointments, arranged a babysitter to leave younger one home, all the money goes in vein. Smart as a whip.beautiful on top of it all. Personable and explains in detail. Dr P is a skilled surgeon. She does great work with glaucoma patients and diabetes patients. The office is very cute and cozy. The lights are kept dim for those that are post surgery or have been dilated. Her husband is an excellent oral surgeon and I've been to his office too.I had an infected tooth so I was sent straight there where he fit me in. I was nervous so he gassed me & didn't even charge me. Love the whole family.cute kids and one on the way. Office manager is stuffy but accurate. Miss being there. read more

Dr. Nisha Patel is remarkable doctor. She pays attention to her patients. And is clearly in tune to the big picture.

I was referred to Dr. Patel by the emergency room to follow up with my care after I received a very serious chemical burn to my eye. She recommended an amniotic membrane lens, which I had never heard of before, but I was willing to try anything to save my eye. As soon as she inserted the lens in my eye, the pain went away. When she removed the lens about 5 days later, my cornea had healed and I could see! It was amazing. Dr. Patel is wonderful and unlike any doctor I have ever been to. She is very down to earth, easy to talk to and absolutely brilliant. I wish all doctors were like that. read more

Dr. Patel is by far the best ophthalmologist I have had the experience visiting. I had an issue with my 6 year old complaining of blurry vision - almost daily. I was worried about her and Dr. Patel fit me into her schedule immediately. She is so warm, so caring- most of all incredibly knowledgeable. She explained everything easily so even my daughter understood. Thankfully, we did not need glasses and she was able to save us money, time, and headache by offering guidance and solutions that worked for the better overall health of my daughter. Dr. Patel is an amazing doctor. She is the first physician who didn't minimize my dry eye issue. I know she genuinely cares about my eye health, wants me to be comfortable and to be knowledgeable about my condition. I've found her staff helpful and I never have difficulty making an appointment. I rarely have to wait past my appointment time before seeing the doctor. My only regret is that I didn't find her sooner. If you have dry eyes, or any ophthalmic condition, I recommend you contact Dr. Patel as soon as possible. read more
