So my experience with Dr. Lisker has been far from routine. I first went to see Dr. Lisker after I forgot to put safety glasses on while grinding some metal and a shard flew into my eye. my eye was irritated, but I thought that was it, by that evening I was in pain. I found Dr. Lisker through my insurance and booked an appointment for the next day. Dr. Lisker is very friendly and makes you feel at ease, she found the metal, removed it, gave me some medication and asked me to book a follow-up. Everything went smoothly in the follow up and I did not return for about two years. I only returned because I was having trouble with my eyes, on the return visit I was diagnosed with cataracts in each eye. Being only 34 at the time I was having a hard time processing the information, especially since I had never had any medical problems with my eyes before. Dr. Lisker was happy to answer questions, provide information and in general make me feel at ease about things. She has since removed the cataracts from one eye and we are scheduled for surgery on the other eye. Dr. Lisker has been very accomodating of my needs and desires throughout the process and is completely honest about the procedures, the options, what she will and will not do and why she will or will not do those things. When we began discussing Inter Ocular Lenses (IOL) and I mentioned multifocal lenses, she explained why she will not work with those types of lenses, the risks involved and politely offered to refer me to someone that will do that if it is what I wanted, and I do mean she was very polite about it. After having all the information I agreed with her assessment and stuck with a traditional IOL. A few things to note that seem to come up in other reviews. Dr. Lisker does seem to run behind schedule. I do not believe she runs any further behind than many other docters and I am willing to accept this for the quality of service I receive. I have never had any problems with the front desk staff, they are always friendly and willing to answer questions in person or one the phone. As I have moved I am still driving over an hour to see Dr. Lisker, which should speak to the confidence I have with her abilities. When it comes to my eyes I am far more concerned about the quality of service I receive than the timliness. I would not be happy with long waits, but I do appreciate the fact she takes time to talk to me about what is going on, answer my questions and provide information without rushing me out the door so she can keep a tight schedule. read more

Dr. Lisker, does not explain issues in detail. I feel rushed and that she diagnoses before the exam started. Time for her to retire and find someone younger and more progressive. Also her staff should be rated a "0" at best they do not listen and her office systems must be 50 years old. read more

I went to Dr. Heidi Lisker because I had recurrent uveitis .This uveitis was causing me to have a lot of discomfort and pain. She treated the uveitis and Dr. Lisker let me know that this recurrent uveitis was likely related to an underlying autoimmune disease that I have. Because of Dr. Lisker's diagnosis, I was able to find a Rheumatologist that diagnosed me with the actual autoimmune disease that I have. I am now on appropriate treatment for the underlying autoimmune disease. My experience with Dr. Heidi Lisker was great. read more

I went to Dr Heidi Lisker in Reston because she was within my insurance network. I had pain in my eyes, i think it was nerves related, I could barely open them. She was a bad choice. She couldn't figure out what is going on although I explained my condition. She was clearly just guessing things!! she asked me not to wear my contacts as they could be the reason and to just get an over the counter eye drops and refer me to cornea specialist!! (by the way I did NOT need any cornea specialist according to my second opinion doctor). That same evening I couldn't sleep all night with excruciating pain, in distress I HAD TO call Dr Lisker late to see if my husband can at least get me a prescribed medication (just anything) to calm my eyes pain till the next day. Her requested was just to come in again the next day!!!! I did. All that to say "Please don't call me late next time" I thought to my self- (maybe you shouldn't be in this profession if you are not available for your patients, you're better off with a company 9 to 5 job then). Honestly this is very disappointing, adding insult to injury its because of Dr Heidi's INCOMPETENCE that made me call late in distress to seek any medication so I can calm my eye's pain. Dr Lisker's second visit was nothing but - Get an over the counter eye drop again. The Good news after this within the hour leaving her clinic I went to a same category in Reston, my new doctor was amazing, thorough and very professional. Prescribed me one medication and Boom!!! within hours my pain is gone, I slept all night. Now you be the judge. read more

The pro- she takes most insurances and can usually fit you in. The con- Dr. Lisker is incapable of being on time. You will be waiting for a minimum of 30 minutes or longer. She is anti contacts. Dr.Lisker is not knowledgeable about medications. Despite telling her the medication was autoimmune and has a side effect of keratitis she was adamant that she knew better. It had to be an allergy to the contacts.. then insisted we were fitted wrong for the contacts. Returned to our original doctor. They said the fit was fine, understood the medication issue, and agreed that a more oxygen permeable contact may be be better. Dr. Lisker needs to fix her time, her knowledge, her interaction skills. I lived in Reston for several years before purchasing a home in Alexandria. While in living Reston, Dr. Lisker is the only ophthalmologist we saw. This morning my wife and I were seen by Dr. Lisker for an eye examination and consultation. My wife got a thorough eye examination for glasses and for me, Dr. Lisker put a name to an eye condition that happens to older adults where gel in the retina breaks away and creates floater like objects in the field of vision. The bottom line is that Dr. Lisker is a fine doctor who is very skillful in eye conditions. We are both extremely happy with the eye care we get from Dr. Lisker. read more

She performed very thorough examination on all of us, explaining in details her diagnosis, best course of action and giving practical tips what would help our eye health. I'm shocked by the negative reviews of Dr Lisker. My girls & I have seen her for years. She's a sole practitioner but yet continues to invest in the latest technology. In 10+ years I've never seen her rude or off-putting, she might be quirky but I find her charming. Dr Lisker moves quickly and does her own refraction and tests -- she knows her stuff. Both my 19 year old daughter & I had appointments this morning and were in and out in one hour even with dilation and additional eye nerve tests for my daughter. I went to Dr. Lisker for my annual eye exam. I have been wearing contacts and/or glasses for the past 20 years now. My eyes are horrible (haven't been able to see the E on the chart for 10+ years) and she was honest, prompt and did a great job. I cannot ask for me. As for my contact lens prescription, she just had me fax her the box that my lens come in since I have been wearing the same brand for years. She then wrote my prescription. She was prompt and courteous. She sees a lot of patients everyday and her poor receptionist has to manage everyone. All doctors offices run late because people run late. It happens... just a fact of life, unfortunately. read more

I concur with most of the 2 and 3 star reviews. Saw her for a issue that ended up being a scratched retina as dry eyes. While she did a decent exam it was her demeanor that I found not all welcoming as a new patient. I was referred by a doctor who I had never seen before at my Primary Care group. The doctor prescribed antibiotic drops solely based upon my description of my eye discomfort. He never looked at my eye so I was a bit disappointed but tried the drops for 12 days with no improvement. The drops would burn in my eye for hours after each application. Dr. Lisker saw me within 24 hours at the end of her day. I was seen within 10 minutes of my appointment time. Everyone at the office was great. Very friendly and caring. It turned out that I did not even have an eye infection !! Dr. Lisker properly diagnosed me and gave me a prescription that has already started working within 24 hours of use. I would definitely refer my friends to Dr. Lisker. read more

Here are the primary reasons I would not recommend Dr. Lisker: 1. The Front desk staff is extremely rude - not sure of the name, but one girl especially, seems like she is pained by having to process patients in. She is not friendly or very professional. She acts like she hates her job and just life in general. For some one who is supposed to face customers everyday, she is in the wrong career. 2. Dr. Lisker is very friendly and seems very nice. The challenge is that she is always late. The few times I have been there, I have been told the wait is 45 minutes, but end up being over an hour. When I talk to the other patients in the waiting area, they validate that it's also always their experience that she runs 1 - 2 hours late. I did try making early morning appointments, the 1st one of the day at 7:45, and she was still late, but only about 15-20 minutes vs,. the more than an hour. 3. Dr. Lisker charges for follow ups. Now, most other doctors who require you to come back in for a quick follow-up to make sure they are seeing progress on a condition they have already seen you for don't usuallly charge, Dr. Lisker always charges. If you have high-copays like we do, this is a big chunk. Especially if you are waiting for long time, and she sees you for 2 minutes. I think that for the money and time committment, a patient should at least get a staff that is friendly and a doctor who takes some extra time to talk to the patient. read more

Stay far away from this doctor. She has no respect for your time AT ALL! You can expect to be there at least two hours. On top of that she is very anti-contacts. So if your going for a contact fitting she will spend the whole appointment yapping about the evils of contacts and try to convince you why you should switch to a nice pretty pair of glasses. Just save yourself the time and annoyance. Find someone else. Huge PITA!! read more

The only plus is that this doctor was able to see me right away and she was close to my job. Unfortunately, my prescription for glasses was totally off base and her staff blamed it on an overcorrected prescription in my original glasses rather than Dr. Lisker perhaps just getting it wrong. I'd rather go with overcorrected (which they weren't and that was verified by another doctor) than not being able to see. She was on vacation for a month and could not see me to reevaluate. I had an issue with my eye and do not have a regular eye doctor so when I called dr. Liskers office I was thrilled they could take me that morning. The problem was - I waited for over an hour for this appointment! When I was finally called back, the doctor only needed a few minutes to help me. She didn't give me a lot of time to explain, I was literally in and out. I was asked to make a follow up appt so here I am sitting again!!! I thought the first time was a fluke - nope! 45 minutes for an "evening" appt. I don't know why but she just called a man back who walked in 10 minutes ago. This Dr. has no respect for your time. She is efficient yet friendly and I cannot imagine entrusting my eye health to anyone else. Front office stiffs are deliberately rude, can't spell, and send patients to doctor out of order of appointment times. Confrontational staff cannot or do not add value to examination process. Yet, the short sighted doctor condones their ineptness. 4 patients spent less than 10' each with doctor. Doctor refused to issue stronger prescription despite patient concerns of decreased visual acuity in low light levels and map reading. With service this bad, the short sighted Doctor apparently will closing down soon. read more

I called yesterday morning after having a sinus infection which led to awful eye pain upon any movement. Luckily, they got me in two hours later... but that is where the good stopped. I had all these things done (drops and dilation without being told what they were or what it looked for). I waited in the waiting room after the dilation and my 4 minute exam. She looked and was worried about cellulitis and sent me to the ER. After the ER, I went home and rested. I called this morning to follow up after the ER visit since the CT scan was normal and the front desk staff was the rudest people I have ever met. They put me on hold for one minutes (claimed they spoke to the doctor), said Dr. Lisker wants me to see my primary care since it wasn't what she thought it was... ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I went to you for SEVERE eye pain and you won't help me? The fact that there was no follow up after being sent to the ER, refused to allow me to speak to the doctor, I am far from impressed, hence my 1 star. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE read more

Do not recommend at all. She is incredibly rude and acts very condescending and unprofessional. Instead of explaining to me that I had keratitis, she berated me on how "I should know better" when dealing with contacts. She was very anti-contacts and spent a good chunk of the appointment trying to sell me on "nice trendy glasses." I was referred to Dr. Lisker by my primary care physician after experiencing severe irritation and pain in both of my eyes. It turned out that I had ulcers as a result of falling asleep in my contacts. At my first appointment, Dr. Lisker managed to get my name right. She asked me what I do, and since I am in graduate school, I bartend. When I told her the name of the restaurant that I work at, she spent several minutes talking about how much she dislikes the restaurant and how another is much better in her opinion-- incredibly unprofessional if I do say so myself. In subsequent appointments (I had to see her every day for a week and a half, and then every few days for several weeks), she did not manage to say my last name correctly even once, and it is a very easy to pronounce, phonetically spelled, 6 letter last name. She called me by the wrong first name several times as well. At each appointment, she asked me about work and reiterated her opinion of the restaurant, as well as suggesting I find another job. After my eyes felt better and I was pronounced "healed", I quickly decided I will never go back to her. She wanted me to come in for monthly appointments--- no way. She also tried to get me to change my contacts, although I had just been fitted for new contacts. Ironically, I have seen her in my restaurant several times since then (but of course, no sign of recognition). read more

I have been seeing Dr. Lisker for years. She runs a tight ship and manages to fit you in for an emergency without a problem. You do need to wait a bit, but she stacks the appointments in order to get you in and out. When she is performing your exam you have to get your eyes dilated and then wait for that. But she moves patients through quickly and efficiently. read more

I was referred to Dr. Lisker at least eight years ago by my internal medicine physician and collegues. I have been consisently impressed with her thoroughness and competent examinations. My husband are both long term patients of hers. She has ensured that I get my bifocals done by respected opticians. She even treated my mother in very short notice. I like that she does not push glasses and other retail products that seems to be a trend in the industry. I consider myself a fairly particular consumer and very fussy about my medical care. She even greets you personally and has a conservative and professional approach. I highly recommend her. read more

The reason why I decided to visit her office was because Dr. Lisker was the only ophthalmologist (not optometrist) in reasonable proximity to where I live, covered by my vision insurance. I regret the decision for the following reasons: I was forced, despite clearly stating that I had been wearing contacts for the last decade, including wearing the same brand for three years, to pay ridiculous $200 for contact lens fitting fee. The fitting fee included 2 (out of 5) samples of the same lenses I was already wearing, trying them one at home by myself and showing up with the best two pairs. $200 for three (3) samples of contacts is considered a bit too much in my world. Getting a refund is extremely hard: staff lie about not receiving faxes and have nothing to say when presented with the fax confirmations. They do not do credit card refunds, and I'm sitting for the last ten days, waiting for a refund check to arrive. Besides the money issues, Dr. Lisker tried to refuse prescribing the contacts because "she does not like them". I have not seen so much professionalism in a long time! I know quite a bit about my own eye sight and eye problems, so she did not really insult me. The overall unfriendliness and lack of respect, however, showed towards other patients in the waiting room. I do not recommend Dr. Lisker as a professional to trust your eyes with. read more

I have gone to Dr. Lisker for several decades. She is professional and I have had the opportunity to have her remove a small piece of metal that I got in my eye and because of my type 2 diabetes to have ski-annual visits. I enjoy her views about the world we live in and her attention to me as a patient. Medical practices today have the challenge of serving many patients and not necessarily knowing the amount of time that each patient will take. Some patients come late some require more time to meet their needs. If I have to wait beyond my scheduled appointment, I have the virtue of patience. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Lisker for many years after being referred by my wonderful primary care doc. It's a very busy office because she is an excellent ophthalmologist. I have challenging vision issues and she has competently taken care of me through it all. She saw me immediately when I had an emergency on a holiday and even called around to find an open retina specialist office for some laser surgery that day to fix an issue. She does juggle a lot of traffic through her office daily. I have had quick appointments and slow ones. She is a single practitioner and I generally assume if she is behind it's because she helped someone with an emergency like mine. I have found her to be conservative in her treatment, and no nonsense honest and straight with me. She completely answers every question I ask. Her referrals have been outstanding. I resisted a recommendation she made to an optometrist who she believed would help me. When I finally listened to her I got the best glasses help ever, worth every penny to me. She won't coddle you but she will take great care of your eyes and not waste your money. She is a gem, and I highly recommend Dr. Lisker. read more

I chose Dr. Lisker based on her experience as an ophthalmologist andspecialty area. I have been seeing her for at least 3 years for general eye care. I've worn glasses/contact lenses for 40+ years and have seen many optometrists and ophthalmologists over the years. Overall my eye health is excellent. I am happy with my experience with Dr. Lisker. She recognizes ocular issues and addresses them sensibly and directly. She does all procedures herself, which I feel enhances her knowledge about my case. Her office staff isn't the warm fuzzy type, although they are pleasant. I find her 'bedside manner' pleasant and professional. I have not had to wait too long either before or during appointments. I have not had any kind of emergency need, but feel confident that she would provide excellent guidance if I did. Overall, I would recommend her to anyone who is looking for excellent eyecare management. read more
