Staff frequently allow students to fight, and there have been incidents of physical mistreatment that go unaddressed. The coordinator, Ms. Kannike, often yells at the children and comes across as disrespectful and insincere. The principal is rarely available, and when you are able to speak with her, concerns are not properly resolved. It is also concerning that some employees choose not to enroll their own children here and openly speak negatively about the school. Parents should be aware before making the decision to enroll.

I had gotten a call saying my son had hurt his arm. His grandma had to to pick him up immediately bc he couldn't stop crying and my son didn't want anyone to look at his arm bc it hurt so much. They seemed to be agitated throughout it the call with me bc he was crying. Once I took him to CHLA they asked me what happened. apparently he had broken his arm that's why he was in pain and holding his arm :/ which he had to wear a cast for a whole month. My son mentioned too me while he attending the adults would tell him he didn't break his arm. Like seriously? You're going to tell a kindergartner that? Principal didn't even care and teacher he had would BS me. So glad I found a school that actually cares about the students.

Someone I love dearly entered this school with big dreams and a genuine desire to build a better future for himself. By the time he graduated, that excitement had been replaced with self-doubt. Instead of being encouraged to dream big and pursue his goals, he was repeatedly told to lower his expectations, settle for less, and accept that his dreams were unrealistic. Rather than speaking encouragement into a young person during one of the most formative years of his life, the adults around him left him believing he wasn't capable of achieving more. Watching that transformation was heartbreaking. I saw the light in my brother's eyes slowly disappear. The confidence, ambition, and hope he once carried were replaced with discouragement and defeat. No family should have to spend years rebuilding the confidence that a school should have helped nurture. High school should be a place where students are challenged, supported, and inspired to believe in themselves. It should be a place where counselors, teachers, and administrators help students discover their potential, not convince them to limit it. Based on what I witnessed, I could never recommend this school to another family. If you want your child to be surrounded by adults who encourage them, believe in them, and help them pursue their goals, I would strongly encourage you to look elsewhere. I would rather homeschool my own child than send them to an environment where their dreams are diminished instead of nurtured. It is incredibly painful to watch someone enter a school with so much promise and leave believing they are incapable of achieving the future they once imagined. No young person deserves to have their confidence or aspirations stripped away during such an important chapter of their life.

Obviously LAUSD schools have their benefits and liabilities, but as a product of the school system who went on to graduate from UC Berkeley and USC Law, I have faith in the system and believe that each student has the potential to succeed if they take advantage of all the resources available to them, even if their parents aren't able or willing to be at home tutors. Their are some great teachers and programs at this school and even though I can't comment on the academic performance, I can say that the staff and teachers that I did come into contact with through my volunteer program were all good faith actors who put their heart and soul into educating the youth and I look forward to returning to the community next semester!!!!

The latest incident was enough for me, my child third grader was punched and bullied by a 5th grader, when my husband and I approached the principal to address the issue she would not even come out of her office to address our concerns regarding our child's safety, she brushed us off and stated that the incident happened at the Youthservices so she is not responsible, I will post the pics if how this 5th grader left my kid's leg and the not so new principal did not address the issue took responsibility for my child's safety. I would not recommend this principal to run ANY school.

Finding Park Century School (we are currently finishing up our first year there) has been one of…read morethe best things to happen to our family. The staff, the teachers - all incredible and everyone is focused on the same goal - our daughter's academic success. She was starting to disengage at her previous school because it simply wasn't set up to meet her needs. Since joining Park Century, she has transformed. She is thriving, happy, and settling into middle school with a confidence we weren't sure we'd ever see. Middle school is a hard transition for any kid, and even harder when you learn differently. Park Century makes it feel manageable -- because they have a plan, decades of experience and a proven method. We are so grateful to have found a community that sees our child for who she is and gives her the tools, on her timeline, for independence and success. We can't recommend Park Century highly enough.
