Kentwood felt like home the first time my husband and I toured when my son was 3. We joined for a follow up when he was 4 and enrolled happily for K commencing in 2020. School last year was *interesting* - online and a K parent... I had low expectations. Kentwood exceeded expectations. My son's teacher was excellent and I managed to meet some local families while remote. Everyone is SO nice! Moving to the 2021 school year - IN PERSON! We added a kid, now TK and 1st grade students on campus. Our teachers are wonderful (Dr Williamson us a legend! And Ms Lee is kind, genuine, caring and eager to help our children who have never been in school full time.). The campus is clean, great playgrounds and green space. We even have a literacy garden for the TK-K kids to spend free learning time outside. The highlight of Kentwood? Our amazing new principal - she's hands on, working to bring parents back on campus, safely given Covid restrictions. Ms Von Schreiber is a gift to our school community. My children adore her and I admire her greatly. She's out front every day at drop off, responds to emails, dresses up for Halloween and 100 days....we are lucky to have her. From the moment I stepped through the doors, I felt a welcoming atmosphere -- one that honors its staff, students, and parents, and is committed to supporting and improving the schools in ways that feel limitless. A huge shoutout to Cathy Lee, who brings such a joyful and positive energy to the front lobby! She's not only warm and approachable but also incredibly knowledgeable -- exactly the person you want greeting families and representing the heart of the district. I also have to rave about Susie Flores -- she is the definition of hardworking and dependable! Sweet as can be, and you can tell she genuinely cares about delivering results and making sure things are running smoothly behind the scenes. And let's not forget Stephanie, who made my experience even better by quickly expediting my daughter's application -- which is what first brought me to the office. Thanks to her, everything was handled seamlessly and efficiently. As a substitute I have been helped and guided in my questions, assignments and each school is prepared to ensure I am able to teach classes I am assigned. Unfortunately no unions exist for substitute teachers. If you decide to teach make sure it's at a district that pays what your worth. You should acquire a large pay increase after your masters in education not only $1,200 for all your work, trauma, pain, struggle and tears. Lastly, let's talk about how he doesn't care about the children. He prioritized Covid over everything. The parking lot was a wreck and people were speeding. A mom brought it up at a PTA meeting worried someone might hit a child. He responded "Well I'm taking temperatures I cannot police the parking lot". So he did nothing about it. I mean I didn't want my children to get Covid, but I certainly didn't want them getting hit by a car either. He never stood up for the kids to have them go back to school even once other schools were opening in late 2020. He wanted to stay home because he was scared for himself, so he took an entire year away from the kids until they went back for a few hours in March 2021. I am completely shocked that this man is still allowed to be a principal. He runs the school like a dictatorship and moms are scared of him so don't argue. Anything he does people talk amongst themselves but feel helpless to stand up to him. Toxic. Toxic. Toxic. We obviously left the school due to him and he alone. Some tips: 1: stay away from this man. He is NOT your friend if you are a woman. 2: He is 5'4 max so I don't know why people are scared of him but they are so just know if push comes to shove you can probably take him.

Like many have stated, the administration is sorely lacking and that all falls squarely on principal Watson who lacks the proper skills and judgement to be an effective leader. Is this a good school? Overall, yes as a local private Catholic elementary and middle school. Were my two girls happy being part of this school? Yes, they created a lot of long lasting friendships and developed good solid religious values through the curriculum. Not the polished emails. Not the teachers who know something's wrong but look the other way. This isn't easy to say--but it needs to be said. Because what's happening in the Spectrum program is not care. It's not support. It's quiet, systematic harm dressed up as help. And it broke me in ways I'm still trying to undo. In middle school, I was diagnosed with autism. When I got into New Roads, I was placed in Spectrum. My family was told it was a safe space--a nurturing environment tailored for students like me. I believed them. I wanted to believe them. But not long after I started, I was re-evaluated. Turns out, I wasn't autistic after all. But that didn't matter. By then, I was already locked in--trapped under Elisa Schultz's watch. Once you're in, Spectrum doesn't let go. You don't "exit" the program--you disappear into it. It wraps itself around your life and convinces you that you need it, even when all it's doing is making you smaller. At first, I tried to play along. I was named grade-level ambassador. I met with new families. I made speeches. I wanted to believe I was helping build something good. But eventually, I did what Elisa can't stand--I told the truth. I started asking questions. I stood up for students who felt powerless. I spoke too loudly, too clearly. So they got rid of me. I was replaced quietly, like I'd become an inconvenience.
