The experience that both of my children have had at the school has been life-changing for them and for us. My 3rd grader, who was struggling in K-2, felt so welcomed. The teachers and the administration care so much about these kids. And the way that they teach, makes the kids absolutely love going to school. There are a lot of projects that allow the kids to apply their learning in real life situations. Mrs. Johnson, as a first year principal has exceeded my expectations. She is very accessible and responsive and not by any means an elitist. This school is very diverse as evident when roll call starts in the morning. Our child has learned about STEM subjects and has learned about different cultures extensively. To say that Mrs. Johnson will strip this school of its ethnicity , culture and financial diversity is hard to believe possible. We were asked and reminded nicely about the suggested donation, we gave it and have given more when asked. I believe this happens at most schools and districts. Our child gets music , art , science lab , computer lab , PE and all of the things I remember getting at Irvine Unified. With the funds raised and given to the school, a curriculum writer was hired to establish a STEM education. There seems to be a solid vision for this school , which is backed by LMU and LAUSD. If you want a high academic expectation from the teachers for your children ,a safe environment, knowledgable and caring staff , then this is a great school

Kentwood felt like home the first time my husband and I toured when my son was 3. We joined for a follow up when he was 4 and enrolled happily for K commencing in 2020. School last year was *interesting* - online and a K parent... I had low expectations. Kentwood exceeded expectations. My son's teacher was excellent and I managed to meet some local families while remote. Everyone is SO nice! Moving to the 2021 school year - IN PERSON! We added a kid, now TK and 1st grade students on campus. Our teachers are wonderful (Dr Williamson us a legend! And Ms Lee is kind, genuine, caring and eager to help our children who have never been in school full time.). The campus is clean, great playgrounds and green space. We even have a literacy garden for the TK-K kids to spend free learning time outside. The highlight of Kentwood? Our amazing new principal - she's hands on, working to bring parents back on campus, safely given Covid restrictions. Ms Von Schreiber is a gift to our school community. My children adore her and I admire her greatly. She's out front every day at drop off, responds to emails, dresses up for Halloween and 100 days....we are lucky to have her. I can't recommend this wonderful, true neighborhood school enough! #koalastrong

This…read moreis my daughters first year here and she's had other kids put their hands on her 6 times already (not including the name calls)and every time I've tried to get to the bottom of it the principal Dr. LaTanya Reeves is ALWAYS in a meeting. Once she finally decides to respond it's "I'm going to investigate and parents need to teach their kids not to hit back and have them tell the teacher." Well my daughter has constantly done that and was just pushed into a bush again by the same child that's been putting her hands on her and tearing up my daughter property. Telling me that lausd not wanting to do ieps and get therapy for these other kids is not an excuse for my child being physically and mentally harmed. Also this school needs to do better with contacting THE PARENT FIRST. There is no reason the grandparents are called first and the parent was never notified nor does the staff ever have an idea about what's going on.

We signed up for a prospective family tour and came with our son, excited to show him a potential…read morenew school. Unfortunately, the front desk staff were rude and inflexible from the moment we walked in. Rather than welcoming a prospective student, they spent the entire interaction explaining all the reasons he couldn't see the campus that day. A simple gesture -- "since you're here, let us take five minutes to show him around" -- would have meant the world to a child. Instead, we got rigid rules and zero warmth. If this is how a school treats prospective families during what should be their best foot forward, I can only imagine the day-to-day environment for kids. We made the decision on the spot not to enroll. I'd recommend other families look elsewhere.

They did not have a special Ed class to take care of my needs, so I had to transfer to Coeur D Alene. Which really helped me out. I graduated and still moved on to more advanced classes. I had the best teacher here. I'd rather not give out her name. I recently found her in Social Media. and I'd like to meet up with her one day, and talk about the story of my life.
