Ribs are always good although the half rack is a lot of time always a very small rack with not much meats. The fries were good but it seems the seasoning didn't taste anything (while I could clearly see the seasoning on them). Too bad cause I really love the fries seasoning here. Troisieme Tasse's locale appeared to be empty and had leasing signs on its vitrines. As I walked back to the Metro realizing I needed to get coffee elsewhere, I saw Lafayette unobtrusively occupying a corner and almost directly across from the Metro station. I filed it away in my head to look it up and see what they had to offer. Lafayette checked out just fine on review sites, so I went in to eat lunch another day. As you walk in, it's a little long in the tooth, but that adds some character to Lafayette. It has the big booths and, as a bonus, its sitting on a corner allows it to have many booths next to windows. It looked like there was quite a bit to choose from, so it could have been that I was overwhelmed. That said, I settled on a club sandwich and a soft drink. I sure have eaten a lot of club sandwiches in the province of Quebec, with all of them being plentiful and satisfying. I've eaten them in Montreal, in Quebec City, and even smack in between the two in Trois-Rivieres. In fact, there used to be a place called Le Club Sandwich about a block or so west of Papineau for which the site, complete with the tacky building occupying it, has given way to gentrification. Lafayette has a good feel ... sort of like a worn and comfortable shoe. The service was also "comfortable," for lack of a better word, but not at all worn, or world weary. By this I mean that it was informal and good-natured, almost as if in a small town. The prices were in the ballpark for this genre and for having an in-town Montreal location close to the city center. The club sandwich was very good. I was very happy with that choice - almost always safe and almost always tasty and filling. Restaurant Lafayette has been around a long time and local folks as regulars is a good sign. I would eat here again and, with a location between Centre-Ville and the Jacques-Cartier Bridge and being so close to a Metro station, it would make it even more likely.

If we lived here this would be "our" usual go-to, I think! The poutine was excellent (and even reheated well the next day!), the fries by themselves excellent, and my daughter said she had the best Caesar salad ever here. It's a small black bean chili with cheese on top that is very good. I often take the mac and cheese balls as a starter. It's 3 small mac n cheese balls with marinara sauce and parmesan cheese. It's very good. They could make a meal out of these (although I think it would cost a lot since it's still more than 10$ for 3 small mac n cheese balls). All in all, I highly recommend it. The staff is very nice too, service is very good and I've never had a bad time. You can order take out or one of the many Uber eat and stuff delivery services. It is a loud place, much like any big restaurant. The bar nearly always have places and you can eat at the bar. So if you don't feel like waiting, this can be a great option that I took often.
