I went to Not Another Salon for their Academy in Bleaching Specialization. I am a salon owner and colorist in NYC and I must say that of the places I've been for classes this crew was hands down the most kind group of educators and their patience is never ending. We had five models, each one with an extremely different hair situation and the educators first had a discussion and then let the us hold our own consultation with the models. No matter what questions we asked we were always met with sound knowledge and respect. I hope to see Not Another Academy in the states so that I can refer all my colleagues over. read more

Colour washed out after one hair wash leaving my hair to look exactly like it was before. DIYed my own pink job which lasted 7 washes with special effects atomic pink. I thought the balayage would at least make up for the lack of pink but it looks exactly like when I first came in (and that was a DIY job too). read more

Brick Lane. Bright colours. Tattoos. It's yet another salon. To be honest I love colouring my hair and I've got more than 1 tattoo but when you walk in and it feels like a group of friends have just decided to have a go at hairdressing, it doesn't fill you with the most positive start. To be fair, I was only here to have my nails done. But first impressions have got to count when it's about hair, right? On to the nails! Nancy is very talented with her nail art and pain stakingly does everything freehand. She was really lovely and I've had non stop compliments which feels nice. Will I go back? If I'm feeling flush. (For the same price I can get a shellac mani & pedi in my local salon who are pretty good, so nail art will have to be saved for those special occasions - like Halloween!) read more

Not Another Salon's name doesn't do this place justice. If you didn't know it, you'd think it's just another shop on Brick Lane, but it's much more. I was greeted by smiling faces of the staff when I walked in the door, dance music pumping and the place was already busy at 10am on Saturday morning. I was given a mini guide to read as I waited and served a hot beverage of my choice. I admit that I'm not usually big on pampering while getting my hair cut, but the staff really went out of their way to make you feel comfortable and enjoy being there. Ross cut my hair and he was very thorough asking me about the kind of cut I wanted and my hair routine. I was then handed over to get my hair washed which was different because their wash bowls are designed to allow you to lay down while you get your hair washed! I had a head massage as well and the guy who did the wash was very attentive, checking if the water temperature was ok and the pressure of the massage was good (which it was)! While I was getting my haircut, I was offered another drink, handed magazines to read, offered biscuits and even given play doh to play with! I almost regret not getting my hair coloured, they seemed to specialize in it and from the guide I read at the beginning, they use all natural ingredients and they emphasize about maintaining healthy hair. Ross did a great cut, he was very accommodating when I told him I wanted as much body as possible so he styled it as best he could to get whatever volume out of my thin hair as possible. I needed to get my hair colour fixed for AGES, and after chatting to the owner at the event hosted by Yelp I decided to go for it. Let's just stop the silly home hair dyes and hand my mane over to some capable hands. And capable they were! I ended up spending a whooping 7h in the salon (yes, I did say it needed fixing), and Mikaela took SUCH good care of me and came out with the best colour I have ever had. No joke. The venue is chilled and creative, and all the staff are fun and friendly. During your stay there you are offered complimentary drinks from a menu including over 20 sorts of tea. It's the small touches that make a difference. On of my favourite features was the lie-down wash bassin. Had never seen that before, but OMG. It makes such a difference to overall comfort. As I said I was there 7h as it included colour cleansing, balayage, olaplex treatment and cut. The cut wasn't amazing or revolutionary, but it was decent. I don't think I would go back there for a cut, but I am never going to let anyone else colour my hair. Olaplex is a new product that helps repair your hair from colouring and bleaching, and the results are stunning. You're going to have to pay a little extra for it, but your hair will thank you for it, trust me! All in all, I paid £200. Which considering is not overpriced. Note : they are specialised in funky colours, BUT you can go for boring colours like me and they will still be awesome at it. read more

Really disappointed. I booked in for balayage and was really excited. My stylist was running half an hour behind for my appointment. I didn't mind waiting but they then massively rushed my hair to make up the time for their next appointments. My hair was then finished off by a trainee as my stylist had already moved on to another client, yet I was still charged the full price. I was so unhappy with my hair I cried when I left. It looked patchy and rushed and even though I paid extra for innolux treatment, my hair looked in really bad condition. The toner that was used washed out after only 3 washes leaving my hair looking terrible. I would normally say something if I wasn't happy but really didn't want to go back so went elsewhere to have it re-done afterwards. read more

I went here for a model night for a balayage. As requested, I emailed the stylist with the procedures I'd done, photos of my hair from all angles and what I would like to go for. When I came in they asked this again and said it wasn't possible because my hair was too red/damaged (even though this was clear in the email!) and they told me they couldn't do the blonder balayage because they didn't want to damage it more - not sure why it's their concern, it's my hair and I can deal with it. This isn't America where they'd get sued if something went wrong. Also not sure what the point of email correspondence was when it was ignored - surely at email stage they could have said they wouldn't do it, to save me an hour and a £2.60 tube journey. Instead of just letting me go home they then went on to recommend I book in for £280 worth of colour correction procedures at the salon (classic London, this is the reason no-one can afford to buy a house anymore), and tried to sell me all their products. Coincidentally, I bleached my hair that same night and miraculously it still hasn't all fallen off. read more

I was so excited to visit this salon on my most recent trip to London. There's so many fun colors and cuts posted up on their social media and I was ecstatic to be turning my hair gray! I booked almost a month before my appointment and sent pictures of what I wanted/where my hair was today. I arrived at the salon and they said they didn't have time to do what I wanted. Well I had already traveled this far and so I was going to get something done. I decided to refresh my highlights and get some fringe bangs. I was there for almost FOUR HOURS for highlights. My hair is not that long either. A new client came in about an hour after I had arrived, and my colorist/stylist went to start the other client's hair. That is fine! When I did get rinsed out, I was left sitting in the styling chair for close to 20 minutes waiting for my stylist to come and blow dry me. But apparently the other client was more important and I was stuck waiting when I had arrived first. After I was finally blow-dryed, I was left waiting over another 20 minutes for my stylist to come back to me after blowdrying the other client to cut my bangs. I was so sick of waiting. So, I stood up and took my robe off and said you know what, I don't want bangs anymore and paid and left. This salon prides itself on being "not another salon", but I left feeling unimportant, tired, and unhappy with my highlight results. My hair was yellow when I had specifically asked to be toned to a cooler blonde. Which I know is possible, because I've done it loads of time before. I am unhappy and will not be returning to this salon. read more

So I had seen all the hype about this place on FB and Instagram. I like a place that's got energy and vibe but I'm so over trying places that promise me the world with what they can do and then its such a let down. Yes I'm particular in what I want, I know what I want, which is something that most people don't or dither over. Not me. Yet most of the time, trying to get this across to the stylist/colourist is very difficult because they either are so whacked out that their ideas are ridiculous or even worse seem to be afraid of stepping out of the box. So here I go again. I walk in to this very different space and immediately I'm quite taken with the energy of it. It has so many visuals going on its hard to take them all in at once. I'm met by a very personable assistant (with great hair) who checks me in and informs my stylist I'm here.. I'm then greeted by my stylist who takes me downstairs to the colour area. Well I didn't expect that area either, great space, great visuals. I'm liking this space more than upstairs and that's saying something. So my stylist and I go really into depth about what I love and what I hate. I had a long consultation with her and feel for the first time 'someone got me' she had great ideas about how to achieve what I wanted. Now this is what totally sold me on her. She talked constantly about the integrity of the hair! That's a first! and how to achieve such amazing colour without compromising the condition and how to keep the colour 'fresh' for a long time. The other point here is we discussed a new haircut, I really didn't want a big change, but, she showed me just by tweaking what I already had she could make the colour leap out and say look at me. Ok I'm convinced, I'm excited, just do it. I have to say it was a long process, but there was another suprise for me once my color was on cooking. I was led into a secret room, and yes another o wow moment. 1960's decor, colouring books an Ipad I was in heaven. So at the end of the service, she just looked at me and I looked at her and we both giggled, because yep she nailed it and she knew it. This place nailed it. Nailed it all. I'm hooked. read more

Very disappointing - paid £260 for my daughter to have her hair coloured - looks good afterwards but the colour completed washed out after one wash and was left a awful faded mess - it was a birthday treat for my daughter but she was left in floods of tears they destroyed her hair - they tried to retify it but all she got was a pale pink mess - could have paid £3 for a bleach London colour - very disappointed out of pocket!!!! read more
