This is my local bodega, just down the block. It's a no-frills establishment with a variety of options with cheap, delicious food. It's almost always open (except super late at night) and the same guys are always servicing the counter and are very friendly. I love coming here for a late night fix that is beyond affordable. Keep in mind that at this price point, you aren't getting anything fancy! It's simple, good food.
FOOD:
Chicken over rice: a very solid option, one of the core offerings of halal carts. Can't go wrong. $6, easily lasts two meals! Pro tip: if you like spice, ask for the "extra spicy red sauce"!
(Bacon) cheeseburger: great choice. Get the deluxe option, comes with fries and a soda. I love their curly fries!
Crispy chicken sandwich: also super great. The chicken is juicy and filling, and the sandwich alone is only $3.50. Can't be beat.
Chopped cheese: ok, THIS is the holy Grail. If you are a New Yorker, you need to try this. It's an iconic NY sandwich originating in Harlem and the Bronx and only the truly authentic bodegas do it right. This place does not disappoint. Come experience the underrated icon of NY. (Oh, and gotta get it on the hero, you'll thank me later)
Tip: everything is customizable. Prefer pepper jack cheese on your burger? No problem. Onion rings instead? You're the boss. A neighbor of mine mentioned he switched out chicken tenders for the chicken over rice. Game changer. Give it a go, you can't go wrong.
Thing to note: they have short breaks where they close the shop to pray. I think it's around 9pm-9:15pm everyday. You can call ahead to check, order, and walk over to pick up.
All in all, not only is this a great shop, I think it stands a head above other bodegas given the selection of food, service, and their adorable cat that roams around the shop sometimes. Check it out :) read more
