This is a difficult review to write due to several reasons. One, without question this place is…read morepopular with the locals who love it. People know each other and it is obvious. For that reason it's to be commended. Second, this place is super small. It's a local diner established for the neighborhood people to enjoy a quick bite to eat. For that reason, it cannot be faulted. Third, the food is good - not great but not bad. Fourth, the service was superior. The one-woman show was prompt, efficient and covered all the tables in the entire place like a pro while always smiling even when overly tasked with tables. Finally, the prices were extremely reasonable. That's hard to find anymore particularly with good food BUT...the place is old and rundown. The front door opens directly into the dining area which can blow in cold or hot air. The food is nothing spectacular compared to other restaurants nearby. There is no place to wait for a table except in front of the door and directly behind one of the booths. The bathroom is located past an open kitchen area and contains a rack used to store restaurant items. Would I eat there again if I was in the area...maybe but only because it feels like a piece of Mayberry that will be lost one day if locals don't help keep it going.

We were not bothered by that but some people may certainly be bothered by it. The waitress came to the table and asked if we needed a menu, she brought silverware and asked us what we wanted to drink. It appeared there was one waitress and one cook. We brought our drinks and asked what we wanted to eat and I said I wanted to pancakes with bacon and the I said are you sure are pancakes are really large as she motioned to about the size of a plate. I said yes I want two of them and I could have done without the eye roll at not taking her suggestion. The hubby ordered biscuits and gravy, eggs, hash browns, and sausage. She brought out our meal and asked if we needed more coffee or tea. It was a good breakfast and there was plenty of food to eat. We left there satisfied and I am sure when we are back in the Celina, Tennessee area we will stop in here again.

I wanted to love this place since we went out for a special celebration of my husband. We had not…read morebeen before and the menu looked amazing! We did not have a great experience. We had a party of 10 and went early (before 6pm on a weekday). It was not busy, and when we arrived there was one couple seated. Despite this, I think they rushed our food. And we would have gladly waited a little longer for cooked food. :/ Everyone at the table who ordered "steamed broccoli" received hard, barely cooked broccoli. My mother-in-law's potatoes were not fully cooked, and her salmon was raw. Since all her food was not edible, they took it off the bill. So at least there's that. The green beans my mother ordered were also quite crunchy, which can be personal preference. I did not complain about my salmon, but it was undercooked as well. However, even if it were cooked, the lemon sauce makes it inedible. I order salmon at most restaurants and I have never tasted a more horrific sauce. I thought maybe I was being dramatic, so let everyone at the table taste the sauce. Every single one of them scrunched up their face and said "UGH!" It was described by my family members as "putrid, disgusting, rotten pudding, and having a strong iron taste." I have to agree there. When they put it on the table I thought the fish was bad, but it was just the strong smell of the sauce. So all the broccoli, salmon, and potatoes were undercooked... however everyone who ordered steak received it cooked way past what they had ordered. My husband ordered medium, and it looked close to well done. My nephew ordered medium rare, and it looked medium well. My husband's steak was still tender and tasty though, so he did not complain. His Brussels sprouts were decent and grits were very flavorful. My sides were mac and cheese and a salad. Those were both very good! The mac and cheese is in an interesting flavorful sauce. More creamy than cheesy, but I enjoyed it. The salad seemed pretty fresh with homemade dressing from what I could tell. Our server was nice, but did not check on us at all, and was only at the table to take our orders, deliver the food, and give us the check. The majority of us had empty drink glasses and would have wanted refills. There was an automatic tip of 20% on the bill because of the larger party, which was fine, but like I said, the service wasn't great since we didn't get checked on whatsoever. Overall, it's not the worst place I've ever been but it wasn't very good. You hate to go to a place that SHOULD be good, pay good money, and receive that quality, but we weren't going to sit there and every single one of us complain. Sometimes, you just have to eat a bad meal, laugh about it, and not return. The fact of the matter is there are much better places to eat in Cookeville with better food and better service, so we probably won't be back.

While…read morethe service remains great and the restaurant is always clean with a friendly atmosphere, my meals during the last 3 visits have been disappointing. First visit, I asked if my waffle could be served later because I like it hot and fresh. I was told that's fine, but when they brought it out it was cold. Server offered to make it fresh and that was great. It was obviously warmed in a microwave and was floppy like a pancake when she reserved my waffle. Second visit I decided pancakes may be a better option, but when they brought them out they were hard and rubbery. This time I mentioned the previous incident and was told to specify making them fresh upon request, otherwise they remain under the warmer which makes them hard and rubbery while still warm. Makes sense. This most recent visit with family, two of us ordered the biscuits and gravy. The gravy was so watery it soaked into the biscuit making it soggy. The usually very tasty home fries were simply cooked potatoes with no seasoning (they've always been very flavorful) and the over medium eggs had runny whites. The coffee had a burnt taste which is not the norm. It's usually hot, fresh and tastes better than the average cafe coffee. The recent inconsistency in the quality of the food is really disappointing. Willing to give it another try in the future, but definitely taking a break for a spell.
