To begin, I have been visiting Vertical Coffee since their inception a few years ago and the ambiance, atmosphere and coffee service is fine. For years, my go-to drink at any coffee bar is a hot, dirty Chai Latte with one or two shots of expresso. Today, I ordered a medium and when I received the Chai and took the first sip, I got a cloying sweetness that was not pleasant to me. I took it back up to the barista and told her it was too sweet and that I must have gotten someone else's drink, but she informed me that they had changed their formula recently and that I had received my chai latte. I have been ordering hot, dirty Chai Lattes for years and I have never had one so off-puttingly sweet. Vertical has a lot of nice drinks and many special and if I ever want to try one I will be back...however, I will start going to one of the other great coffee houses in Cookeville for my favorite chai...what a shame. read more

The ambiance in here was great. Lovely interior and a variety of options for seating. The music kept cutting in and out which was very distracting from work. The Swanson was really great, creamy, and yummy. The cider was good, but waaaaayyyyy too sweet in a coat-your-mouth way. Vertical Coffee's new space (directly across the street from their old location) has to be seen to be believed! It is homey but still upscale, roomy, and all around beautiful. The coffee is top notch, just as before, and all flavors and syrups are made in-house. They have great rotating seasonal flavors but I always opt for the classic iced oat mocha. I would love it if they would consider a gluten-free pastry/baked good option but I also know that is a niche market and not always advantageous to the business. First time to stop by and not sure if I will be back. I have a dog and am not opposed to them so don't hate on me. However, I brought my new grandbaby here to relax and enjoy while we talked and caught up, but these animals constantly under my feet, smelling horrible from the rain and causing her to sneeze, this definitely left a bad taste in my mouth. They have a patio so why not enjoy the dogs under the outdoor cover? As a business owner I would recommend outdoor pets only! Just my thoughts but strong opinion that I won't be back. read more

Stopped for a late afternoon pick me up. I order a gourmet S'mores Latte. It was delicious with roasted Mimi marshmallows and graham cracker crumbles on top. My husband ordered a medium roast coffee and said it was perfect. We also shared a chocolate chip muffin that was very fresh and loaded with god quality chips. It was a quiet chill atmosphere just as a coffee shop should be. read more

The coffee and people are absolutely great but I did notice a price increase of about ~.50 cents a cup today 12-14-2023 which now puts me down to one visit a week instead of two. Oh well, I guess all good things must come to an end as prices keep going up and wages do not. read more

This is a wonderful little coffee shop. I went alone later in the afternoon and it was quite pleasant. The dim lighting, coffee smell, and extra squishy chairs and couches, offer a warm and inviting atmosphere. I ordered a chia tea latte which, although good, was pretty spicy for chia tea. It took be about 3-5 minutes to get my order and there was 2 orders ahead of me, so the baristas are pretty speedy and efficient. I would absolutely recommend hitting this spot for a little pick-me-up. read more

Great coffee! We each had a caramel latte. It was well balanced and had a good strong caramel flavor without being overly sweet. The shop was cozy and clean, the staff were exceptionally nice. I lived everything about this shop. (And we travel coast to coast trying coffee shops along the way). We'll definitely be back. read more

Came here about a week ago (I'm late I know). I ordered a cold brew and it was DELICIOUS! My boyfriend got an americano and he said it was also delicious. Update: Best locally roasted coffee around Cookeville. We always buy our whole bean coffee here and haven't been disappointed. The Ethiopia and Columbia roasts are especially good. They have expanded their drink menu since my first review and now have espresso. They also have local bread for sale which is delicious! The roasters, baristas, and owner are all very nice and helpful. Definitely worth checking out. read more

We were in town for the day and I decided to grab a coffee on our way out. I came across Vertical Coffee Company and I'm so glad I did! The baristas were so welcoming, friendly and helpful! I ended up getting the chocolate cold brew which was made with their house syrup, giving it a chocolate flavor without too much sweetness. Great coffee! I have had their coffee locally, as well as their grains added to Red Silo Brewing Company's coffee-flavored beers. The owners clearly have a passion for obtaining good coffee and grinding and roasting the grains. This business is a coffee roastery, so don't expect the cappuccino and latte styles that you see at places like Starbucks and Poets Coffee (locally). Although from my understanding, they do distribute grains to Poets. They do sell coffee and grains at this location. Coffee is cheap -- $3 per glass. There is not a whole lot of seating at the moment -- one set of sofas and chairs plus a row of stools at the front windows. read more

Stopped by after being told about this place by a contractor and so glad we did. The bean used was outstanding and drew me back a few times more. I was told by others it know as Kevbo and it's a blean of Columbian and Guatemala beans. It is wonderful.
