When our pipes froze during the big storm this January (thankfully, without water in them), we decided to hire Plumbums again. That didn't go as well. Quality of work: The fixes Jim suggested (a series of individual junction fixes) seemed reasonable for the repairs needed, but in some cases replacing whole sections would have been more time- and cost-efficient (according to other plumbers we've had in our home who have seen the work done). And we needed four return visits within our first three days living in the house to address issues that had not been resolved or that popped up as soon as we turned systems on. One problem (heat running constantly on our first floor, making the house over 80 degrees in the winter) was unresolved until I researched possible causes myself and communicated that to Jim, who sent out one of his guys to implement the fix. Professionalism: We were frustrated by the lack of care shown toward our property. Jim's guys left plumbing debris (not just the stuff our homeowner's insurance requested, but just straight-up trash), food trash, and drywall dust in our basement and living areas. This means that the first thing we had to do after driving 3,200 miles to move in was clean up after them. Drywall was removed roughly in several locations, and although patching was not included in the estimate, the cuts themselves appeared unnecessarily sloppy (and our new plumber neatly cuts and replaces drywall as a matter of course, leaving the mudding to us, which is fine). Plumbums did work well with our insurance company to get our claim handled, and ultimately we have working plumbing. But our experience wasn't great.

These are generous people and I will certainly not hesitate to contact them again the next time we need something plumbing related. Two years ago we needed a new septic pump. Mascetti installed it and all seemed fine. Two years…read morelater, now, the pump failed. We texted and called Mascetti; no one got back to us. We had another septic company suggest it was a bad float (without seeing it). We paid an electrician who came out to fix the float $700 to fix a part which he thought caused the issue. A week later, the pump failed entirely. Both the septic guy and the electrician said the pump wasn't installed properly and wasn't the right type of pump to pump up a hill where our leaching fields are. Certainly, a new pump should last more than 2 years. We are now facing the cost of installing a new pump, on top of the sunk cost of $700.

Pantry Installation and more James was excellent to work…read morewith. He installed a pantry system in a highly unusual closet and did an outstanding job. To prepare the space, he removed old wood pieces that left the wall looking rough. He then mixed drywall paste, repaired the damage, sanded, painted, and installed the shelving. The finished area looks great. Additional Home Repairs Because this is an older house, several other items needed attention. James handled each one carefully and efficiently: * Fixed door slides to add extra security when locking two exterior doors. * Added missing weather stripping to the bottom of the storm door. * Cleaned up torn metal siding beneath the front door. * Installed a hook in the cement wall for the car charger. Above-and-Beyond Support During the move into the new house, the master bed proved difficult to assemble because it had many pieces. When one of James's jobs ended early, he came over ahead of schedule and put the bed together that same afternoon. That level of flexibility and care was truly above and beyond. James will be our first call for house repairs in West Hartford.

My place is old and nothing seemed to line up right/go smoothly, but James was patient and did some outside the box thinking to solve these issues we ran into. He was also very kind though out, even though there were some frustrating times. The work all came out great, and the price was reasonable. I would definitely call James again for future projects!
