They put me under anesthesia and discovered that they cannot remove the screws bc they are disintegrating. I am waiting for my foot doctor to call me tonight to let me know exactly what this means. I hope i am not going to be suffering for the rest of my life. Dr. Nichols did not use medical grade screws. Medical grade screws should last forever. It's only been 7 years. I am so scared. I am wondering why this doctor hasn't been sued multiple times after everything I'm reading about him. Other people have just as horrible experiences as me. This has been a very confusing and disappointing experience with Dr. McKanna's office…read more I went to him with severe plantar fasciitis and inflammation in my heel that made it almost impossible to walk. After several discouraging visits with other doctors, I had nearly given up on finding real help. My daughter encouraged me to try again, and we found Dr. McKanna. At first, I was genuinely impressed. He seemed caring, knowledgeable, and truly interested in solving the problem rather than just treating symptoms. The steroid injection he gave was painful but effective, and I appreciated that he connected possible back issues to my foot pain and ordered an MRI. For the first time, I felt hopeful that I had found a doctor who cared. Unfortunately, that hope quickly faded. I scheduled a Saturday appointment to go over my MRI results, confirmed the time, and drove over an hour to his office--only to find it closed. When I called, the staff told me Dr. McKanna was at his other office that day. As a new patient, I had never been told he had more than one location. I offered to drive to the other office, but was told he was busy and leaving early. They said he would call me at 1:00 p.m. He called at 1:30, but I missed the call due to poor signal. I immediately called back and left a message asking for a return call. I never heard back. I followed up again on Monday, calling multiple times to ask for my MRI results--still no response. At this point, I'm left with an unread MRI disc and no guidance from the doctor or his staff. It's very frustrating to go from feeling hopeful to feeling completely ignored. I want to believe this isn't a reflection of Dr. McKanna himself--he seemed like a good, caring doctor--but the communication and follow-up from his office have been deeply disappointing. If you go to Dr. McKanna, make sure to confirm which office your appointment is at and be prepared for possible issues with communication. I sincerely hope he sees this review and takes steps to improve how patients are treated and followed up with.

Having gone to him for a 3rd opinion at the time, I've seen other Orthopedic Surgeons & Ortho Docs at NM, Rush (downtown) & IBJI - this Dr is the only one to have a visual graphic to show what he believes my issues are and how each would need to be treated to help repair these problems in my cervical, spine & shoulder. Impressive! The location & parking is easy. Staff are efficient & cordial. It took 6 weeks to get an appointment. I give Dr Yasin 6 stars, but Rush Midwest Orthopedics gets only 4 stars because they charged me $6.50 for a copy of his physician visit notes and they take 14days to get them to you via email. No other facility charges for such, not even Rush downtown - cheap, cheap cheap!!!

The first visit I went, Dr. Nichols said I had a neuroma.He injected my foot with cortisone, without asking my if I wanted the injection or discussing what the injection was even for. It was very painful! He used a 2" long needle that went between my toes and through my foot. The worst part is, my foot now had ANOTHER pain for a week and a half from the shot. It did not help at all but made my pain worse! The bill for the shot that I didn't even ask for was $140!!! And he acted like it would cost nothing and forced me to get it when we were one-on-one in the patient room. I went back to Dr. Nichols a month later complaining of the same foot pain. He still thought it was a neuroma, and said to look and see if my insurance would pay for custom orthotics (otherwise $800). He had no real answer or diagnosis for me, even after taking X-Rays. Two weeks later, I went to a Sports Medicine doctor in the Cadance physician group. He said that I most definitely did not have a neuroma as Dr. Nichols said, but that my issue was metartarsalglia. He told me where to get a ball of the foot pad that would support my big toe up while I was running extra long distances. It has worked! And now I'm able to run 10 + miles without pain! My experience with Dr. Nichols definitely left a bad taste in my mouth. Seeing a specialist isn't cheep! And then they stabbed me with another $140 bill!. Awful.

My PCP thought it was time for me to see a podiatrist, as they were starting to cause me real discomfort. I went to see Dr Nichols, as he was in the same vicinity as my PCP. Not even five minutes after meeting him in an examining room, he declared that I needed surgery on both feet and within the next six months. Wait, what? I have friends and acquaintances with feet issues, and ALL of them have gone with custom orthotics prior to thinking about surgery. Even if it only delays the surgery, the less invasive orthotics route would be a suggestion that I had hoped would be offered. But no. Dr Nichols was extremely adamant that both of my feet needed surgery, or else I was risking much more serious surgery down the line. I asked about custom orthotic insoles, and his unwavering opinion remained that I needed surgery. I told him it wasn't an option for me at this point in my life and he begrudgingly said we could "try" insoles. At this point he left the room and his receptionist/assistant came in and began to photograph the soles of my feet with an iPad. Huh/what? I'm going to get custom insoles based on an iPad shot of my feet? I was also told that "Insurance usually doesn't pay for orthotic insoles, but they will pay for surgery". Interesting. After the iPad photos were taken, I was told "you can either pay $486 right now for the insoles, or we can bill your insurance, but if they don't pay for them you will then owe us over $800 for the insoles". Uhh, why the price fluctuation? At this point I was a little distressed, so I just opted to pay for them upfront. Not only did the office charge me $486 for the insoles, but they billed my insurance for $950 THE SAME DAY. I found out about this after I was looking at my insurance claims on line. My insurance paid them after I already had; the office of Dr Nichols was paid twice for the insoles! After three weeks I received a call that my insoles were ready to be picked up. I made an appointment to come get them, and when I go to the office I was told Dr Nichols was on vacation. There was a "substitute" handling his clients, and it took this guy over 15 minutes to find my twice paid for orthotics. Then he couldn't tell which one was right from left. I was flabbergasted. A month into wearing them, my feet were in worse pain than prior to seeing Dr Nichols. I called the office, and the receptionist explained that they needed a "breaking in" period. I also asked about the double billing, and she reluctantly agreed to refund $103.00 to my credit card. What? These pain causing insoles cost over $1200? Called back another time complaining about pain and was again told that it would take time for my feet to adjust. Ok then. You folks obviously are done with me. Just within the last month I received a letter form my health insurance, United Health Care, stating that they no longer will be covering ANYTHING from the office of Dr Nichols. Very interesting. So here I was, 3+ months into this ordeal, with feet that were more painful than ever, and useless $1200+ insoles. Wow. I went and got a second opinion last week, from a more established podiatrist, and am confident that we are addressing my foot issues correctly this time. Never be afraid to get a second opinion, Yelpers. It may save you time, money and a whole bunch of frustration.

Instead, I went straight to the source and began searching for foot specialists. After calling a couple that were unavailable that same day, I called Dr. Salvino's office, and not only was the person on the phone very empathetic, but I was able to come in a couple of hours after my phone call. Upon arrival, he confirmed what I thought to be true, and was recommended various locations for an MRI to determine the severity of the rupture. The next day, I received a call from their office to come in for a second appointment to prepare for surgery. Dr. Salvino explained the entire process to me, answering all of my questions and discussing why surgery was the best option for me. Since I didn't have a PCP, Dr. Salvino recommended a physician that might be able to squeeze me in for a pre-surgery approval physical, so that my surgery could take place as soon as possible. A few days later, Dr. Salvino performed my surgery on my Achilles rupture. It was as smooth of a process as it could have been, and I have been seeing Dr. Salvino weekly since then, notebook in hand to make sure that all my questions are answered. He answers them all with patience and I never leave his office feeling confused or like my questions haven't been answered. There was a time I called the office with a concern about my cast being too tight, and even though he was out of the office, he promptly called me back from his personal number to address my issue. I really appreciated this. I am very pleased with the care I have received from Dr. Salvino and his team. Everyone is friendly, I never have to wait long to see him, and I am pleased with the progress I am making with my injury.

I only went here…read morebecause my broken (whatever the f that bone is under your pinky toe is called...metacarsal? metatarsal?) which was validated two years prior by an X-ray. I thought perhaps it had re-broken because it was hurting the same way. Now, for those of your that have experienced broken toes (I've had two on my left foot, one on my right, plus this something-carsal-thing) then you kinda know when it happens. It's like 'yup, that's broken'...actually I have broken lots of bones and also knew it, but I digress. So the I only attended the facility twice, but every single person there (including the Dr.) was extremely pleasant. I never waited and I always felt relaxed. The rooms were super cool too because there were photos that Dr. took on his own vacations (which I also do...at my house...not my Dr.'s office, lol). My main issues for not giving above three (other than no comparison and only two visits) is he never wanted to take an X-ray. And it wasn't because it wasn't covered (or, I'm willing to pay for it) but just he was extremely sure it was not rebroken. I'm not one to argue with a Dr.; they know way more than me but wouldn't a Dr. just try to rule that out? In the end I did receive very caring treatment but no definitive answer. Would I go back? Yes.

Dr. turf ruined my foot I can no longer wear sandals, flip flops or any kind of heel because he deformed my big toe and second toe and the outside of the foot. All Dr Turf ever did was have an xray taken then "look" at my foot and say the girls upfront will take care of you. Finally I said you are NOT doing anything for me so stop with the appointments, Any time I asked for ANY of my paperwork or X-rays the girls up front said ok you can have them it cost $15.00 (when your primary requests them they are supposed to be no charge) and when my primary Dr called they said I have to sign a release form so I did and then my primary called again and then faxed 3 times they NEVER released them even when I went there and tried to sign another release form I got the run around saying I have to come back when this one is there so I went back and she would tell me no another girl has to be there. Finally I gave up because it was not worth my time.

They actually billed my insurance $4300. And yes, it was extremely painful and should not have been scheduled on a whim when my calendar was packed. I was told I wouldn't need to take any time off from work. My foot bled for about a day afterward, and it ended up infected. Argh! Additionally, it's really annoying that payments can't be made online.

Less than 5 months after having knee surgery, I ran a marathon. That's right. Dr. Rawal IS incredibly gifted. My scars are minimal and he clearly got me back to running in an unbelievable amount of time. Dr. Rawal is not much like others in his profession. I never waited more than a couple minutes in his waiting room (what??? Yes, I am sure I'm talking about an orthopedic surgeon). He spent time with me explaining my diagnosis, showing me the MRI images, answering my litany of questions, allaying my fears and truly caring about me. He also got me in for my first preference of surgery date. On my surgery day, he calmed me down when my anxiety began to kick in. He also showed me pictures from surgery both in recovery and again in my follow-up visit. I couldn't have been happier about my experience with him at the Hinsdale Surgical Center. I highly recommend and endorse Dr. Rawal for your orthopedic surgery needs. You will not find another surgeon as customer service oriented AND talented as him!
