I will not be returning to this clinic under any circumstances. I was referred there by my primary dentist for evaluation of a single gum above an implant that appeared to be in slightly suspicious condition, and the staff treated me as if I had been referred for total neglect of my mouth that was going to require comprehensive treatment. They obviously had not read the referral from my dentist. The ambiance of the clinic was highly unprofessional, beginning with the high energy bumpety-bump music they had blaring over their PA system, in contrast with the soothing music that most clinics play in an attempt to put their patients in a calm mood. The receptionist began by giving me a big spiel about how the clinic had me cornered and how I was not going to get out of paying for whatever treatment I was going to need. I ended up being charged around $550 AFTER insurance for a bunch of X-rays, deep cleaning of a single gum and a recommendation for no further treatment, $200 of which I was required to pay up front before they would even see me. The nurse, Minnie, kept asking me the same questions I had already answered in their extensive on line questionnaire after considerable research in my records, and I repeatedly told her that she was wasting everybody's time by insisting on asking me these same questions when I did not know the answers off the top of my head, and that if she wanted correct information, she was going to have to refer to the answers I had submitted on line. After taking my blood pressure, she treated me to a lecture about how blood pressure can be elevated when one is at the doctor's office, as if this had been the first time I had ever visited a medical clinic (I am obviously no spring chicken). When she started singing to the bumpety-bump music, I thought it couldn't get any worse until I was sent to the hygienist, who set the tone for her portion of the visit by "thoughtfully" asking me whether I brushed my teeth, and if so, with what. The entire staff was unbelievably condescending, and I was made to feel like a juvenile delinquent being referred to a probation officer rather than a valued patient being referred for medical treatment. Dr. Zhu himself was super friendly and professional, both in my initial visit and in the followup visit, and he gave me an evaluation of my condition that I thought was eminently candid and honest. l could not believe the contrast between his professionalism and the slum-like demeanor of the clinic staff. My gut reaction was that he needs to join a different clinic. I reported my experience to my regular dentist, whom I highly respect (in contrast with the staff of this clinic, who appeared to think that she was a hack), and she was deeply apologetic and thanked me for my feedback. This was not her first choice for a periodontal clinic to refer me to, and I can see why. She only made this referral after I requested a clinic that was closer to my home than the clinic where she initially wanted me to go. I told her that after what I had been through, I would go any distance to avoid Northwest Periodontics and Implants if I should ever again need evaluation by a periodontist, and that if her own staff behaved like the staff of Northwest Periodontics and Implants, I would immediately jump ship and seek out a different dentist. read more

This place making business not curing patients. They unnecessarily make people to come more often like, to take class on how to do oral hygiene and charge 90$ , which takes 5 minutes they can do it in first appointment itself, it again not covered under insurance. They take photographs of your teeth even if they have X-rays, which is not covered in insurance. Overall my experience was not pleasant they scare you to remove the wisdom teeth even if it is not a concern. I requested for a quote for scaling and root planning they said will get back from insurance office in 2 days, i waited for their call for a week , when I called to enquire about it, they mentioned it would take 2 weeks. And there is no eye to eye communication , i dont know if i can trust what they are saying. Finally i changed the Periodontist (dont want to specify the new dental office, because this is genuine review ) they gave the oral hygiene instruction in first appointment and appointment was booked to scaling n root planning. The price was also much cheaper. Irrespective of any dental office, dentist job is to scare you and make money out of it even if there is 1 out of million chances that you are getting that disease. read more

Dr. Zhu was informative, knowledgable, kind, and went above and beyond! His huge smile is so welcoming when he walks into the door, and also very reassuring, because, let's be honest...I would run out the door if my Dr. walked in and had terrible teeth. You have to practice what you preach right? So right off the bat, there was a reassuring aura about Dr. Zhu and again, the bright genuine smile. Heading to see anyone regarding your teeth can be nerve-racking, but Dr. Zhu and his staff did everything in their power to ensure I felt at ease and understood the entire process of what would happen and what I needed. Nothing felt pushy or rushed. I felt like they all really cared about my well being and wanted to take the time to understand where I was coming from. People too often brush off the importance of the health of their teeth, and that's one of the biggest mistakes anyone could make. I would highly recommend going to see Dr. Zhu. I save my 5 star reviews generally, but Dr. Zhu and his staff are well deserving of the stars. Thanks guys! read more

I had a great experience with having a tooth removed and an implant put in by Dr. Akimoto. I have to say that I was a little concerned by the post-procedure instructions provided before the surgery that suggested the use of ibuprofen for three days and ice on and off for the first day. I actually had no discernible swelling at all and no real pain that I could notice. Dr. Akimoto was able to remove my tooth and place the implant without any incisions or stitches. I think this resulted in very little if any swelling in the area of the implant. Also, Dr. Akimoto's staff was very diligent in determining my dental benefits so I had a clear picture of how much I might expect to pay for the work to be done. Note: Your results may vary as I would imagine that every situation for which this type of work is needed might be a little different. I had a baby tooth removed which might have had less impact than the removal of a larger tooth such as a molar. read more

I've seen Lori for cleaning at NW Periodontics for years - and she is fantastic, really personable, does a great job. At my recent appointment, I asked the young woman at the front desk if all the staff, everyone working there was vaccinated. The woman became defensive and hostile, saying this information was protected by HIPAA. As someone with a medical license, I understand what HIPAA is. I said, No, HIPAA prevents your doctor from sharing your medical information. HIPAA does not prevent you or this business from sharing whether or not the staff and docs are vaccinated. She turned away in anger and stopped talking to me. The other woman working at the desk shared that she is vaccinated. I have family members who are immune compromised, so I am careful where I go so as to lessen the chance of taking covid home. I am disappointed that a medical office does not have all staff vaccinated and question whether or not I want to return again. I will be contacting the doctor to share my opinion. read more

Would give 0 stars if possible. Absolutely maddening experience with this place. My dentist referred me to have receding gums checked. When I called to make the appointment I specifically asked if my insurance would be covering all of this. They looked into my insurance and told me yes. I made it clear on the phone that I wasn't interested in moving forward unless it was all covered. My teeth are fine and it was not worth it to pay a bunch of money for this. Then I get a bill for $229 a month later. When I called I was told it was for the xrays that they took. Xrays that did not need to be taken because I had just had xrays taken by the referring dentist a month earlier and my insurance would not cover multiple xrays done within such a short period of time. I argued with them and told them I wouldn't be paying it. So they sent me a letter telling me they are going to take me to court. Over $229. For xrays that should never have been done to begin with. For something I was specifically told would be completely covered by my insurance. Absolutely horrible business practices and I would not recommend them to anyone. I was lied to on the phone, given an unnecessary xray and then threatened with legal action when I argued the charge. Avoid at all costs. read more

I have worked in the dental field for 14 years and Ken is one of our top choices for treatment involving gums and implants. I personally choose to go to him because I know he is one of the best and that he is a straight shooter. He will not recommend treatment unless you really should have it. read more

My dad had tooth that was broken in half and it ached for months. We were referred to Dr. Zhu so we gave him a call and he kindly took us in to take a look. He took an x-ray and projected it to this huge tv in the room. He showed us what he saw and found that the tooth could not be saved. He explained the process in detail and answered all of our questions. We were able to quickly schedule a follow up appointment to remove the tooth. The appointment itself was great and my dad was so happy to have gotten the tooth taken care of. One week later the gums healed nicely and Dr. Zhu painlessly removed the stitches. I've seriously never seen such a nice dentist office before. They did a fantastic job building out their space and optimised it for patient comfort. The view out of the room was nice and peaceful which helped ease the stress of going to the dentist. My dad was thoroughly impressed and we would absolutely recommend Dr. Zhu to anyone in need of a periodontist. read more

I would never recommend this place. I went there to check deep pocket refered by my dental doctor. But they did several examination, including a oral/facial photograph(which I didn't see any related or help to diagnostic deep pocket). I was told by Nurse all these will be covered by Insurance, but actually not, I have to pay for some of them. I call them twice on communication this, every time they said will call me back tomorrow after discussing with doctor Zhu. But they never call back... read more

My general dentist failed the implant on my front tooth after wasting six months of heeling period. Dr. Akimoto restored the implant beautifully without any issues. The crown the general dentist put on the implant broke, but the implant itself remained strong. The general dentist charged me for the crown replacement. I switched the dentist for someone much more capable, of course. I would like to stay with Dr. Akimoto for a long time. read more

Dr. Akimoto is has an ego that is beyond belief. I went in for an evaluation where he took some pictures with a camera, and checked my gum depth. He then told me that I was having bone loss and would most likely need surgery in the future. This statement was contradictory to every other dentist I've seen and was not shown on the x-ray. The x-ray showed I had minor bone loss, but nothing serious. When I brought that up he said that the x-ray can't see between the teeth, which is crazy. X-ray's see density and would certainly show if he was telling the truth. So what was his advice to me for the supposed "major bone loss"? Come back in for two "oral hygiene lessons" teeth brushing lessons and then a cleaning. Fairly minor treatment for what he made sound extremely serious. so, I went to one, and thought that it wasn't very useful so I tried to cancel the second one and just have the cleaning. The person I was speaking to on the phone told me she would have to check to see if the doctor would allow that, I told her that the teeth brushing lessons were unwanted and I only needed the cleaning. The Dr. then gave me an ultimatum, go to the second teeth brushing lesson or don't get a cleaning. I said that it sounded like black mail, keeping in mind that each of these lessons are ninety dollars. So if I didn't pay the 180 dollars total I wouldn't even be allowed the cleaning, which would be another 200+. it felt like he was trying to get as much money out of me as possible. I complained that this was a failure in his hippocratic oath as he was refusing to treat me, without this up front cost. he didn't like that I said it was like blackmail, so he told me not to come back to his office and canceled all the rest of my treatments. Honestly I've been to many doctors over my life and have never met one so contentious. I urge you to read his other one star reviews, I am not the first person to have had this experience.
