Went in last-minute on a Friday evening for a touch-up and beard trim for the weekend. Shon sat me quickly after walking in, was super happy with the end result. Will be returning again, she was great and the shop overall looked clean and well taken care of. The best thing about this place is location, location, location! Getting a quality fade is pretty hard to obtain in Rosedale and getting one used to necessitate a drive to the East Side or the South Side. Luckily the fellas at Northwest Barber Shop cut some pretty good hair. I hate long waits, so I go between Tuesday and Thursday and have Art cut my hair. Most conversations in the barber shop involve sports, so if you wanna chime in, be sure that you know your stuff! All haircuts come with a a straight razor neck shave and a brief massage; a definite plus in my book. FYI the credit card machine has been down for a while, so bring cash! read more

Its rare that I stop in Bakersfield, but the time I did, I had to get a haircut for military duty and stopped at Northwest Barber Shop, this place is awesome with great personalities of barbers, with outstanding haircuts. They are veterans, and a matter of fact this Marine was in the same unit I was at the same time in Camp Pendleton, but never met each other till now. Out of all the barber shops in Bakersfield, I think this one is the worst. I had asked for a trim on the top and a mid fade around and I got practically my whole head shaved off. I didn't even see a fade or a line up. And they still had me pay $16 for a haircut I didn't want. Now I have to wait for my hair to grow back. Never again will I go to this barber. I am new to the area and was looking for a barber and stylist to maintain my hair. I call Northwest and spoke to the woman that answered the phone. I introduced myself and asked whom I was speaking with. The woman identified herself as Veronica. I told Veronica that I had a little longer hair, how I like my hair cut and what my expectations are. She stated that she has experience in styling longer hair and urged me to come to the barber shop. Shortly after our conversation I appeared at Northwest Barber shop. Upon entering, a woman asked if I was the one whom just called? I said, "I was!" I took a seat in the waiting area and when it was my turn I was seated I stepped up to the barber chair. I explained how I wanted my hair and I know my hair well, so please don't cut it the way you want, however the way I describe. I told her that I have cow-licks and asked her to taper in the back a little bit and the length of my bangs were fine the way they were and the the sides of my hair is Not to be cut short and cover the tops of my ears. That's pretty descriptive, "RIGHT?" Veronica went on to tell me that for many years she had styled woman's hair, but she switched to cutting men's hair. So she breaks out the clippers and right away I was skeptical of what was going to happen. She shaves the back of my hair with a #1 and I stated "NOBODY had used clippers on my hair in over 25 years!" Only scissors! Veronica cuts the upper sides of my hair with a #3 and when Veronica was close to what she called finished, she asked me if, "that was short enough?" I told her I had now idea, that she never handed me a mirror or turned me around towards the mirror on the wall, not even one time! When I looked in the mirror I was shocked! She ended up giving me a FADE cut of all things! I'm pissed! I paid her $25 and left. I was irritated about my experience all last night and I wanted to share this horrible experience with you today. I wish I would had never paid her... period! My hair looks like a kid cut it. It stands up, won't lay down and I look scalped on the sides and the back! I realize that there are other barbers that work out of the Northwest location and they can not me held responsible for Veronica's actions, however, I would never recommend this barber. While the haircut may have been decent, this shop failed to keep sanitary razors and tools and I ended up getting bacterial folliculitis which itched and burned like no other. Needless to say, I will never come back here and the subsequent trips that I had to take to the dermatologist to clear up their mess were more enjoyable than this. read more
