Paul is the man. I've had him come out numerous times. Straight and to the point. Doesn't screw around, honest and fair pricing. I also don't write reviews but I saw the 1 star here from the clown who doesn't know how service calls work and felt I had to in order to level out the overall average. To that person do your homework. Every service technician is going to charge a trip fee as well as markup parts. They make their money off of parts. I cannot recommend Paul or Northside Appliance Services. What started as a routine dryer cleaning turned into an incredibly frustrating and expensive experience due to his apparent lack of professionalism and basic troubleshooting ability. We hired Paul specifically to clean our dryer and replace the dryer vent hose. To do so, he had to pull my stacked washer and dryer away from the wall. Before he arrived, the washing machine was working perfectly. Immediately after he completed his work and pushed the units back, my washer stopped functioning properly and began sending water onto the floor instead of the machine. When brought to his attention, he claimed he didn't know what happened or what could be causing the problem. He came back the following morning to look at the washer, but rather than diagnosing and resolving the issue, he was completely at a loss. To make the situation worse, he took the washer apart and left my home without identifying the problem, without fixing it, and without putting the washing machine back together. His suggestion was that I could order a part that might fix the issue, but he wasn't sure that would be a solution. This is not the level of competence or professionalism I would expect from someone charging for appliance services. A technician should know their limitations, and take responsibility for their work (or lack thereof). I hired him for a functioning dryer cleaning and was left with a broken washing machine, a machine in pieces, and the cost of hiring someone else to fix his mess. At no point did he take responsibility for resolving the damage that occurred while servicing my dryer. Save yourself the headache and hire someone who knows what they're doing. read more

Came out promptly first which was appreciated and diagnosed that the dryer motor was dying and that we should keep an eye on it and if it continues reach out and would apply the service change should we need his further assistance - which was thoughtful advice . A couple weeks later the situation reoccurred and indicated we need a new motor so we ordered a motor and there was an error on shipping .Motor continues to stop intermittently and the workplace was left in terrible status ;debris everywhere and we still have an appliance that does not operate consistently. $500 could have been applied to a new dryer. Paul was very responsive and right up front concerned about making sure I was getting value. My stove, after just 2 years, simply stopped working. Paul's initial focus was to help me sort out whether there was any warranty [nope] and then whether repair made financial sense for me. Only then did he proceed. Sadly, the repair efforts were unsuccessful. Back ordered parts made 3 trips necessary. And yet, Paul charged me only for the initial service call. Sometimes repairs don't work out, but having someone honest attempting them is of great value in itself. I won't hesitate to reach out to Paul again. I was experiencing an issue with my dryer the past few days. It was blowing hot air, but was no longer spinning, causing my clothes to remain wet in the dryer. Gross. My landlord called Paul at Northside Appliance and he came out the next day to fix it, even despite the disastrous snow storms Chicago has seen recently. The dryer was completely filled with old lint which Paul cleaned out, and he replaced the drive belt within minutes. Gave my roommates and I good advice on what to look out for and to call him if we have issues again. Great guy, great service. Definitely will be using him again if we have any other appliance problems. read more

Both times I've been very impressed with the quality of work, speed, and promptness, communication, and also value. I left a voicemail for a different local washer repair service and they never called me back. Luckily, I was able to make an online appointment with Northside Appliance Services, which was easy to do, and I snagged an appointment within 4 days. Paul and his employee came out and were able to find the reason why our washer was shutting down, mid-cycle. Turns out the coin trap was filled with a a bunch of stuff, including a rubber shoe sole... Don't ever put rubber soles or a rubber-backed bath mat into your washer! It was definitely a 2-person job because the washer is in a tight laundry closet with the edge of a wood floor blocking the bottom where that coin trap is located and they had to lift and angle the washer with dryer on top in order to get access to it. They cleaned it out and tested it, and after they left, I ran a load in the washer and it worked perfectly! Our washer crisis is over, thanks to Northside Appliance Services. read more

Please read before you book your appointment with Paul. I never wrote a review in my life before but I feel like I am doing a service to all of you that are about to book an appointment and waste 80$ so Paul can enter your home. I booked an appointment with Paul, he charges 80$ for it, regardless if he finds something if not, later he charges you 150$ for doing literally anything quoting him "I don't care if its microwave handle replacement or something serious I charge 150$" which is fair. I asked him to come out to fix my stove because the spark igniter did not work and I had to manually ignite the gas, he came out and told me that he needs to order a ignite module which is 52$, fine next week he comes with the part, he opens the back door and starts yelling that there is nest of roaches there and he won't touch it, and he left me with a part. There was not a single roach there, it was a grease he did not even bother opening the backdoor all the way. I later called a person who is more knowledgable on the subject than Paul and he told me that what was wrong is a different this (wire harness), so I was stuck with a part that I did not need. I later called Paul to return the part and when he came he told me that he won't take it because the part is used. I told him that I didn't use it because the ignite module I have works fine and he identified wrong issue because of his lack of knowledge. He told me he won't take the part with me, so I asked him to give me a receipt to the store he bought it from so I return it myself, he said no and left. So now I am stuck with a part that is brand new and worth 52$, spent 80$ for Paul to come into my house and identify issue all wrong and order me a part for it which I don't need. Good luck running your business. Please to every one there are great workers out there, that don't charge anything to come out, and are honest and fair with their customers. Paul was responsive to my dryer issue during our time of social distancing. He fixed my dryer in a timely fashion and he was able to look at my 40 year old stove and suggest a simple fix. i broke my washing machine by doing something incredibly stupid. Paul responded to my call very quickly and worked to fit a diagnostic (and hopefully repair) call into his packed schedule. Alas, my stacked washer and dryer had to be unstacked to fix the washer so Paul need to reschedule with another person to help. He kindly fit me into a clearly packed schedule (both times he came he was aiming for 6-ish but said he'd likely be late and late he was. But Paul and his employee were friendly and cheerful and undaunted by my almost 10 year old electrolux washer which clearly was not constructed to make it easy to fix. But fix it they did and were still cheerful when they finally finished at nine o'clock after confirming it was working with multiple tests. Paul clearly cares deeply about providing excellent service with a smile (and a tummy rub for my cat who was determined to supervise). I would trust him to do anything he said he could do. read more
