It's a little gem of a park, an old marble quarry and some quirky wooden walkways and bridges that look down on the Hudson brook. The brook has created some unusually rock formation that you can look down on your walk. There's also some nice hiking trails on the other side of the park from the waterfalls.

This unspoiled gem of a state park is a must see for anyone who loves natural beauty and the outdoors. Only open in season so check dates on their website before coming. Highlight is the photogenic white marble dam and waterfall that is best viewed from one of the bridges or platforms. Many types of interesting rocks and walkways that take about an hour to explore. Picnic areas surrounded by majestic trees everywhere. Oh, they waived the $10.00 parking fee that day -- maybe because it was early October and the leaves had not turned yet? (which also kept the crowds down to a few dozen). Can't wait to come back next year to see the fall colors.

Not only is it strikingly beautiful and…read morehistoric, but the surrounding area is everything you could want - bucolic, peaceful, colorful, and a perfect place to practice any photography skills! It has become the place I return to in my mind when I'm stressed or meditating lol! This is the largest bridge in the area and was built in 1864 to replace the existing bridge. There's plenty of room to park off to the side and the bridge has walkways on either side that span the length of the bridge. There are also pathways that take you down to the riverbank for more views! The river is incredibly beautiful, especially with the fall foliage - just wow! I could've quite happily stayed here all day! It's very easy to find - just plug the name into google maps and it will get you here (Apple Maps didn't work for me though).

This bridge located in Winchester is huge and also has some really unique features. My favorite was that both sides of the bridge had covered areas to walk, which you don't see in some of the smaller covered bridges. Overall, it's a unique little landmark hidden in the middle of nowhere and if you are a little bit of a nerd like me you'll probably enjoy it.

There were both baby swings and regular swings. There were smaller play structures (a playscape and a couple things to climb) that were great for the toddlers. Then there was a large playscape, a treehouse, and another climber for the older kids. The large playscape and treehouse could still be used by the toddlers with extra supervision (there are some high places that they can fall from). The playground is in the shade too, great for hot days.

I also make it a point to come in the winter just so that I can see the waterfall get frozen over. The only critique about this place is that at the end of UMass' school year the place tends to be packed and at times people leave their trash everywhere. Besides that this place is nice and relaxing.

There is a labyrinth right by a beautiful little body of water, some really cool sculptures, glass works, and cool places to sit and/or wander around. The whole place has a really nice vibe, and I think it's just really cool that someone takes care of a space like that for everyone to enjoy. I would highly recommend it. Fun for the whole family.

This State Park is a great place to swim during the summer as well as spend time barbecuing with friends. Whenever we go we make it a point to show up early in the morning, set up shop, and do nothing for the rest of the day. They have a ton of different picnic areas and a centralized beach area with bathrooms and a food trailer. They also have space to play soccer and a few different horseshoe pits. The park also has some walking trails that provide a great space to connect with nature. A few things do need to be said about the park. The first is that you should plan to show up early on busy days such as holidays because at times there can be limited parking. The other interesting fact is that you should plan to have little to no cell service while at the park. This is great because it ensures that you won't be bothered, but good luck checking in.

Def worth going a little out of your way for. Couple of things: -No swimming signs are posted-I've head people still do it. -There is a port-o-let in the parking lot-didn't use and not sure if it's unlocked/clean but if your coming for more than 1/2 hour may be smart to bring some t.p. -There are a few picnic tables by the falls-but if it's crowded then your prob going to need a picnic blanket. -The road that gets you to the park is rutted in places so go slow and don't drive in the ruts. If you have a super low car because your one of those types then skip this as you will prob bottom out. -Bring a trash bag and take your stuff (and anything you find) out.

There's hardly ever any trash there. The ONLY thing I would change well-- suggest about the park is I think they should have installed a water fountain for when it's hot during summer. Holyoke Summit House and the incline railway that used to bring people up the mountain. Iconic set of rolling wooded hills over looking the Connecticut River and surrounding lowlands…read more Skinner State Park is approximately 3,000 acres once privately owned now overseen by the Mass DCR. There are an intertwining network of trails from the base, along the ridge, and through the wooded parkland. Bring a GPS and trail maps are available at the gates and in the Summit House. This was my first time hiking here. A life long buddy & hiking pal encouraged me to join him. He was excited to try out his new hip on some varying terrain. He drove in from Vermont, me from CT. Both of us aging (gracefully) we each used an adjustable pair hiking sticks, which did come in handy both ascending and descending the hills. We found the trails were all very well maintained and well traveled. There's a system of trail markers and blazes to follow. Keep in mind bikes and horse are allowed, so hikers, keep your eye open and give way to wheels & hooves. The Summit House does have access too by vehicle, but (!) parking is very limited up top and DRC Rangers control traffic flow. We parked very close to Hockanum Road (Rte 47) and hiked up. Views at the Summit House stunning 360 degrees. If the House is open (seasonally) take time to tour the former residence and Lodge. View from the House decks are even better. My foot recently repaired foot & my buddies new hip passed the test!
