The park is about 35 acres, 22 of which are wooded, meaning unkept. There are some awesome old gnarly trees growing in there, and lots of birch and maple I think. It's a great palce to get away from "the city" and be in nature for awhile. I didn't see any facilities like playgrounds or bathrooms, so if you bring kids, make 'em pee ahead of time, and bring some toys or something. No dogs allowed in the wooded area according to a sign, but we saw dogs (on leashes) in there anyway. It felt so good to be up high again after living in Colorado, even though the hike to the "summit" only takes about 5 minutes. BONUS: just down the street is a hand-held car wash with vacuums. Part of the Belividere neighborhood, this park is definitely worth a visit at least once per season just to see how it changes. There's a paved trail to the top of the hill so you don't have to climb through the woods unless you want to. BONUS 2: Geocaching spots nearby...

The main pathway is paved and wide. It's very level - no hills at all. In the center is a large marsh or bog. I was looking for a place to picnic, but it's just the paved walking path and a marshy area - no place to spread out a blanket and sit on to have lunch. It's strictly for walking, hiking. There are a couple of unpaved off shoots to the main path, too.

There are lots of benches and there's a small yet decently maintained beach with public restrooms. There are a couple of small parking lots that fill up quickly, but it's okay to park along the street. The paved foot path along the river is over one mile long. Great for urban hiking, walking, strollers, exercise.

There's always something going on here, especially in the summer - concerts on Mondays, Motorcycle…read morenight on Tuesdays, Monsters and Mini (jacked up trucks and Mini Coopers!) night, free movie nights on Wednesdays, kids night on Thursdays... Not to mention all the summer events like the African festival and Southeast Asian Water fest, among so many others. This is a nice, paved, well-maintained multipurpose path with lots of benches to sit on while you enjoy the beautiful Merrimack river. Well-lit at night with street lamps, it's the perfect place to watch a sunset while you enjoy an icecream cone from Heritage ice cream across the street. It's wonderful to see all the regulars while you walk and all the families enjoying the city. Arguably the best free thing you can do in Lowell on an evening.

I don't know if the type of vacation (hiking and camping) helped to self select the people but by the end of the week we had gotten really close as a group. SUP YO also picked amazing guides. They were fun, funny, knowledgeable, and basically one of the gang with guide authority. The owner of the company came with us on this trip. She was fun, did everything we did, never put on any airs, and I felt like she was "one of us.". All of the food, hotel, etc was taken care of. We even celebrated a birthday for one one of the hikers in the group! I am looking for more trips to go on with SUP YO and a group of us are planning to go in another trip or a weekend hike together again!!

There is a long walk way and a couple of wide open, green spaces with a few trees. There's a long, paved pathway. I guess it gets only three stars because its parking lot is terrible. It's big enough, but it's unpaved and there are huge depressions in it, making it hard to drive through. The paved path is a mile long, which makes is good for an urban hike.

I've heard from locals that the area isn't great, but I've yet to encounter a problem. It's small compared to the bandstand area.
