Recommended to me by Calvin T. I've been looking to try North Tea Power for a few weeks and got the chance to swing by for a quick lunch on Sunday. NTP is located within the Smithfield Buildings on Tib St, next to Wood Wine and Deli and Superstore and is really easy to find. The inside is small but homely and was pretty busy. There is an outside patio area with tables too so I would say plenty of room for all their happy customers. Instantly I was made to feel welcome by the guys who run the place - really friendly people. Their tea and coffee menu is extensive, so there's plenty to choose from! Food less so, but they do homemade soups and toasted sandwiches - some breakfast items too! I ordered a pot of tea and their 'Ruben' toasted sandwich and sat outside, in what has been the mildest winter ever! I'd definitely go back here again - it seems like a hip hang-out.

So i've decided to set myself a mission to find the perfect cup of green tea in Manchester and headed here first as the reviews seemed very positive and I had walked past it umpteen times before as its location is in the heart of the Northern Quarter on Tib St. Its small, comfortable and with very friendly staff. There isn't a proper menu at present, but as they apologised and promised one is coming soon, i shall forgive them, I shall be returning, so will get the chance to peruse at a later date. They had a small selection of sandwiches and cakes and I ordered a honey roast ham with brie and rocket. O.M.G. i wasn't expecting much from my ham butty, I was here to sample the tea remember, but it literally was mouthwatering. But now to the tea, I ordered the Green Jasmine Phoenix Pearl tea, it came in a little coffee plunger and I was advised to wait between 3-5 minutes before drinking and being a good girl, I did what I was told, and it was delicious, subtle and not too perfumey as some jasmine teas can be. Free wifi, a place to store your bike, small tables where you can huddle up with a book and a brew and even a large table down the middle where a bunch of you could spread out with tea, cake and laptops and even outdoor seating for people watching a plenty! I like this place . . . I like it a lot

A place to go if you wanna have a good cuppa/coffee where there is WiFi. There isn't much choice in terms of food but I don't think that is their specialty. The atmosphere is quite lovely and rustic. There are newspapers for those who still read it in hard copies. Its a nice place to chill with your mates outside the tea shop when its sunny. The staff is very friendly and makes you feel welcome as soon as you step foot into the cafe. Artisanal coffees are available for those who really like their coffees. You have the option of a brewing method of V60 and Aeropresso depending on what you fancy. The coffees are swapped every 2-3 weeks, so you are guaranteed a new coffee if you popped in on a weekly basis.

Best cappuccino in Manchester! Fruit tea looked great. Would hate to know the calorie count - but the sandwich was yummy...Roast ham, Swiss cheese, honey mustard, beaten egg and maple syrup drizzled on the French toast. Hipster joint in Northern Quarter - expect vintage style bicycles!

So why did it take me a year of living in Manchester to get to North Tea Power? I have no clue. I met friends for coffee here one Sunday and it was a perfect choice. I had the cold brew, which was served in a beer-type bottle. My Reuben sandwich was massive, cheesy and delicious, while my friend's frittata looked virtuous and full of good things. There is a huge selection of tea which my friend took advantage of. After my sandwich I satisfied my sweet tooth with a Florentine. Prices overall were quite high but not staggering, and everything was good. I will certainly be back.

On Saturday, I met some friends here prior to meeting other friends for early dinner at Evuna. It's in a really handy location as a pre-dinner place to meet for any of the places around Thomas Street. It's been at least two years since I have been here. I used to come when it first opened with a friend who has since moved away from Manchester and I'm not sure why it has taken me so long to come back. One time when we were here, my friend explained some complicated astrophysics using tea cups, so it's a place of education as well as tea/cake. I always used to get one of the green teas but since I'd already had a vat load of green tea earlier in the day, decided on the redbush. It was excellent, about as good as redbush gets. To accompany the tea, I had a chocolate cheesecake, which was absolutely delicious. They have lemon water and plain tap water on the side, which they keep topped up, which is nice. There's a range of condiments, including nutella, so that's an automatic plus point for me. There's a really nice chilled out vibe and is the sort of place you can meet mates, go on a date (when I first started internet dating 3 years ago, I met my first internet date here), sit and read a paper on your own, do some work (I noticed power points)....basically anything. Some coffee shops, including some indie ones, don't make you feel quite so comfortable on your own. I need to remember to come back here more often.

    Elderflower iced tea :)

Sat outside this hipster little joint one sunny afternoon in Manchester. I was only there for an hour, and didn't get any food (though it looked delish!) but fancied something refreshing for the day that was in it. The guys made me up an elderflower iced tea, which was genuinely one of the nicest non-alcoholic drinks I've ever had! So full of flavour and perfectly refreshing. It's a strange colour - not sure what else is mixed in with it, but I'd definitely recommend giving it a whirl! Another point is that internet is really spot on here - very fast, and they don't seem to mind people sitting around nursing drinks on their laptop. Great stuff.

Ok so my last check-in sounded harsh RE price. So I thought I'd share this picture to assure you of how good it was though. Beat coffee in NQ? I think so.

I should update this review to be more then me going 'Coffee nom mom nom' but I do warn you - it will sill be coffee centric. So NPT is my fav cafe for a brew as it brings in some fantastic rosters and brews the coffee while it as fresh as they can get it. As well as the normal espresso based drinks (cappuccino, latta et) it also just aeropress and pour over with a couple of different blends to pick from. They also have a messive list of tea to lust after, I found of a sweet cherry one myself. Also, cakes! They have amazing cakes but I will warn you that they can go quick if your the tape of person to go on later in the day. The coffee shop itself is pretty tipical NQ, laid back vib with more people with there Macs out working then I can keep track of! They keep rotating the artwork in there so there is always something on the wall to look at. So NTP, yes I am a fangirl.

North Tea Power is just so lovely. I went to NTP once for the full English breakfast, which they don't have. We have to leave and come back another time for the coffee after a lunch. There is plenty of roast selection and some fine coffee choices available. The tea selection is pretty amazing too. We opted for Kenya Gichathaini Peaberry Washed black coffee and a latte. I don't usually like the acid flavour in the coffee much but this Kenya Gichathaini Peaberry is actually really nice. It's refreshing and light with the perfect level of aroma. I like the atmosphere in NTP as well. The seating layout is not fancy but provide a relaxing and creative feeling. We were there for the coffee and chat. But I do feel it could be great place to work and read.

I read the great reviews on Yelp before heading here, I wasn't that hungry at the time so was only heading there for a coffee, when i got there i kinda liked the outdoor terrace but it wasn't that warm to sit outside, I loved the decor of the place, very northern quarter type and loved the huge table to sit around and the ample seating around it, i decided to order a latte at £2.60 a reasonable price and very tasty, a bit luke warm for my liking and the regular size wasn't that big, would have expected the mugs to be a little bigger, but it tasted ok. the girl who bought it over didn't seem over friendly though and neither did the guy i ordered the coffee from, i wasn't asked i i wanted any muffins or cakes and didn't really see any on offer. It does seem to be a cool place to be though with most customers looking very trendy and most of them on there MacBooks. I wasn't a huge fan of the place but its a cool place to go so might go and give it another try sometime but theres loads more new coffee shops opening all over the NQ all the time so I'm not sure if ill be back in a hurry but if you want a quick coffee when youre heading somewhere, then this might be the place to go! They also do free wifi with a password needed.

Avocado on toast. Or rather, half of it!

Nice wee tea and coffee shop a short stroll from our hotel (Premier Inn Picadilly). The staff were lovely and the coffee was every bit as good as I expected it to be. There were freshly baked cakes, fresh fruit and filled croissants at the counter, but I opted for the avocado and sage on toast which came already seasoned with a little too much ground black pepper for my taste. My fellow diners had things with eggs, sort of scrambled as they didn't have the facilities to cook them in any other way. All good! There's a counter towards the rear with sauces and jugs of tap water to help yourself. Worth a try if you're looking for a very laid-back chilled-out vibe with your cuppa! Free wifi.

    Jasmine & Breakfast Tea
    Jessica C.

We sat outside today braving the wind but we did manage to capture a glimpse of rare sunshine underneath the canopy which is quite nice. It was a good place to chill and catch up. The breakfast tea (£2.20) & jasmine pearls (£4.00) was nice and strong, and the milk was served in a miniature milk bottle! Good place to take guests that are visiting Manchester for the first time, better than going to a coffee chain shop.

Anyway, Teacup feels like one of the more rightful contenders. Kind of like a Stannis Baratheon. Willing to experiment with new things. Determined and full of effort. Takes things seriously. Might have had a dip in popularity at some point, but heck, that does not keep a rightful king down. Teacup has totes re-stolen my heart. But now to the rest a teatime should be sacred time with loved once an hour to relax calm down and enjoy good tea and food. We had the queens tea and it comes as a full high tea with scones, sandwiches and sweets. While the service - as already mentioned was great (they switched one set to vegetarian sandwiches) - the sandwiches have not been. The toast was a bit try on the edges and the actual spread and creations have been lackluster to be friendly. The chickpea vegetarian was the best by far. The scones clearly made in house fresh and really good tasting. But they have been more like a bead bun in consistency- but together with the clotted cream very very good. Just not really scones. This tea room also did disappointed me with just serving a tiny glass of industrial made strawberry preserves. They also only serve one "scone" per person and did not offered any more sandwiches or scones. And then finally the "sweets" the Richmond tea room takes that word very very literal. Besides a macaron and a little passionfruit tartlet they served two pieces of cake that have both been tasting like sugar only. While looking ok they just had no taste whatsoever other than just being overly sweet. No fruit flavor or distinctive taste. Since I left mine untouched since they were just not good maybe that why they don't offered more sandwiches or scones. All in all it was just not the teatime I was looking for spending with my husband as quality time we slowed down drinking the tea but we did not really enjoyed the food and that messed up the experience. Sadly. Starting with five stars I'll take one of for the stall sandwiches, another one for uninspired sweets and a third for the jam and overall price / quality relations. Since I would have lived with it when it would have been a cheap teatime in a restaurant, but it's a location that ha w tea room even in the name.

However these wonders of technology take something of a back seat in this beautiful, delightful pop-up tearoom. Each lovely and friendly member of staff is dressed head-to-toe (okay, maybe not head and toe - some lovely quirky haircuts and glasses obvs. This IS Manchester after all) in 1930s tearoom staff finery. A proper working gramophone takes pride of place, providing the kind of soundtrack that makes the Northern Quarter's retro vintage cafés sound like they've got Now 56 blaring out, and I'm currently seated on a plush leather sofa in front of an aviary. With real tweeting birdies. But there are cheeky nods to the present day too. My choice of cake (officially the best cake choice I've ever made in my life - not even joking) was a delicious slab of Americana amidst all this quintessentially English tradition... a peanut butter and jam cake. Listen here, I spent part of my time devouring it, part trying to figure out how the hell I could replicate it. I'm reckoning it's standard Vicky sponge, but it would appear that a layer of crunchy PB has been baked into the base. The topping is a jam icing, similar to the one Jamie Oliver got us all to make one Red Nose Day where he smushed up strawberries with icing sugar... but even better than that, somehow. Does this frosting have butter in it? I don't know! But I need this cake in my life again. So why am I so desperate to replicate it? Because I'm already in mourning. This place is only open until Friday 10th Feb 2012 and I am utterly devastated. I want to try everything on the menu. I've not even started on the vast selection of teas available. There are more cakes than you can shake a hungry fork at. And about that coffee. When did you last get - let me just check - FIVE cups for £1.50? Out of your own coffeemaker at home perhaps? I want to start a petition to keep this place going, permanently. As in, it always needs to be final year art degree money-raising project time. The only thing that sucks about all Manchester's amazing pop-ups? That they're not forever! I don't want to be *that girl* holding somebody's ankles begging them not to go, but if Holden Tea Room had legs, well, hand me my best grabbing gloves please. Seriously, no pride. Stay. Don't leave us. We love you.

We arrived for final service at 6pm and as you can imagine it was very busy on Mothers Day. The maître d' came straight over to us to let us know how long it would be until we were seated and continuously gave us progress updates. Whilst waiting we perused the small shop of local produce, had a drink and soaked up our surroundings. The Tea Room is a new addition to Holden Clough Nursery being built in the last few years, but looks like it should have always been there! It is beautiful and sympathetically designed to its surroundings. So, the food....WOW! I'd seen pictures but when our Afternoon Tea arrived on a mini picnic bench I felt like clapping!! (In fact, I think I did!!) Such a great idea and adds a little bit of originality and quirkiness to your experience. Everything on my picnic bench was delicious. The Mushroom soup was silky, creamy and full of flavour. The mini Roast Beef Dinner served in an individual yorkshire pudding was beautiful and of course came with a little jug of gravy and beef was tender and pink. The scone was fresh and light with jam that had just the right sweetness and fruit mix. My other main highlight was the Rocky Road, I'm not usually a fan because its too rich and sweet but O-M-G this was amazing. I still find myself thinking about it now two days on. The chocolate melts in your mouth to find small nuggets of biscuit and mini marshmallows.....all washed down with a great cup of coffee. John & Kate who own and run The Garden Kitchen have done a fanstastic job transforming Holden Clough Nursery over the last few years. The service, quality of food and surroundings are 10/10. Annie's in Manchester is quite an interesting place, located on a slip road on St Anne's Square,…read moreOld Bank Street, it is quite a small building with very interesting decor, it is more of a tearoom, but also they do have a resturaunt menu, mainly British cuisine which does seem overpriced. Many people might recognize Annie's as being owned by Jennie McAlpine and her partner, Jennie is a British actor who is from the Manchester area, being born in Bury and she placed Fizz in Coronation Street. When I visited, it didn't have a nice feel to it, it just felt a really small place and quiet, myself and another party were the only ones in there, before they originally vacated, the service didn't improve because of that, the guy who served me seemed nice but he did seem a little pushy, trying to stay near my table when I was trying to concentrate on my order, so kept coming over too soon before I decided on what I was to choose, he had a decent knowledge on what on the menu was gluten free but they didn't have a menu or allergy book, which was awkward and made it more tiresome and frustrating for me, as well as harder to order. I was also upset that Annie's wouldn't accept my Tastecard, despite it not stating that it must be on the main menu and after 5pm on their website, they even seem really strict on having to pre-book it, meanwhile places like Pizza Express and Prezzo, also in Manchester don't seem to care if you waltz on in, after speaking to Tastecard they should have accepted it as it says nothing in the terms and conditions about certain menus you have to order from and times, which was frustrating. They also had loads of menus too, they just thrown on my table with no explanation, which just was rather unusual and didn't seem too welcoming or friendly either, which was a shame. At the end of the day, due to the awful atmosphere, bad selection on the menu, poor service, poor menu and high pricing, I decided to walk out which made me quite sad as I have wanted to try Annie's for a while now, as from the outside it does seem quite nice, but sadly it doesn't seem to be, which is a shame and I feel sadly warrants a one star review, and for now due to breaking Tastecard terms and conditions, which they agreed and signed up for, warrants a place on my "Places not to go list"

The coffee shop is in an old mill building next to the canal and it is SO PRETTY. I went for when it opened so I was the first one in and I had a great chat with one of the staff about dragonball z as I was wearing a shirt of it. Inside it looked immaculate, very trendy and a place I would love to go to, time and time again. It was a large space too and they had their own merchandise in there which I will buy one day and a full cabinet of delicious looking treats .. all handmade and not the usual manufactured items. I went for a donut and a flat white and they were both amazing. As I was on a coffee tour, I took it all out and had it whilst sat next to the canal ... perfect view for a perfect coffee. I couldn't recommend this place more and I count the days until I can return.

TL;DR - Great coffee shop away from some of the busier spots in Ancoats…read more You really need to know this place is here to find it, tucked away inside Royal Mill. Go in through the main entrance, past reception and the cafe is on the far right. In side it's dimly lit but cosy with lots of exposed wood. Great coffee, great cakes and a nice relaxed atmosphere. Every time we've been here it's always pleasantly busy but not overcrowded. There's plenty of seating inside at tables and long benches, or you can head into the "outside" seating area, which is actually indoors but under glass and so protected from the weather. They also roast their own coffee so you can pick up a bag to go.
