Having done business with Cornerstone Construction for almost 10 years, I can honestly say that…read morethey are the best construction company in the area to work with. They are our "go-to" guys. Their crews (especially Wayne) are overwhelmingly professional and Ryan Enggas is extremely reliable--always willing to go the extra mile, even in a "time-crunch".

We had to fire our first contractor for a project that involved converting an attached 1 car garage…read moreto become heated living space and put a second floor addition over that garage. We brought S and A in and they got to work pretty quickly. In addition to the work noted above, we also had a covered front porch along the front of the house added along with a new (pavers) sidewalk to replaced the busted up 50 year old concrete with a parking pad adjacent to the street. The HVAC was replaced and upgraded, an outdoor kitchen was added off the back with a new roof and stone work. The old "dutch" roof that came down over the second floor exterior wall was straightened and covered in Hardiplank. There were modifications made, there were some delays with the timing/arrival of materials, but nothing significant. We transformed a 50 year old house by adding 800+ feet of heated living space, a massive covered front porch with lights and fans, and an extremely large (14' x 25") covered outdoor kitchen with lights, fans, a sink, and a gas grill. It looks like a completely different home. Our one massive project was actually 6 big projects rolled up into one. We are quite happy with the results. The complexity and scale of it meant it would not be quick and easy as it involved having to deal with all the 'behind the drywall' infrastructure, electrical, HVAC, gas, and plumbing. All has been completed and we are quite pleased with Ed and his team.

Following the installation of a new roof under warranty by Spilman, Inc. we had water damage to our…read morehouse caused by improperly installed shingles & lack of oversight & supervision of the job. Spilman tried to blame the homeowner for the problem but clearly no reputable roofer knowingly installs shingles so as to cause water damage. Spilman assured us several times both verbally & by texts that he would repair the damaged areas. He delivered the necessary) material which we painted ourselves to save him time & expense. He never did the repair work. After waiting several months for Spilman, we hired another contractor to repair the damaged areas. We posted our complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). Except for several insulting texts to us from Spilman, the complaint went unanswered. Eventually Spilman stated in several texts to us his intent to reimburse us for the cost of repairs if we would then inform BBB of the resolution. We agreed to his extended time frame for payment & sent him the bill, per his request. As the deadline approached, we reminded Spilman of his commitment & again he texted his intent to pay. That deadline has passed & we have not received payment. Once again, Spilman did not stand behind his word, work or warranty. It has been a long & unpleasant experience. We would not recommend Spilman, Inc.

Before CJ Deans, I'd contacted another roofer who was recommended by other neighbors. However,…read morefrom pt of initial contact on 11/29/22 to 2/14/23, 78 days- I still had to meet my point guy, the one with whom I was communicating. He kept sending other workers and never came by to meet me in person, after I had requested so several times. He never even provided me with any kind of brochure so that I know how they operate and what materials they use- never signed a contract either. In fact, I had to call in my initial claim and reach out to him when he was not responding to requests from my insurance adjuster. In addition, initial pictures for my claim were taken after dusk, when streetlights were on... of course, they had to be redone. CJ Deans was also used and recommended by other neighbors so when James popped by my door on 2/6 with a brochure, I was willing to listen. I reached out once more to my initial roofer who said that he will come by the following weekend. Weekend passed without any communication, so I reached out to James on 2/14 to finalize my claim. My husband and I met with James on 2/18 where he outlined their plan, showed us samples and had us sign a contract. James was able to pick up where the prior roofer left off and 33 days later, my roof was completely replaced. To be fair, days spent before CJ from submission of claim to communication with my insurance was 15 days and should be included for a total of 48 days. What a relief... done! I must add that CJ Deans actually calls in your claim and then they maintain contact with your insurance. There is no need for the homeowner to be the middle man. James was also very, very responsive and always kept me in the loop. Their roofing team used ropes for safety and used pulleys to get the materials up onto my high roof. After installation, the workers cleaned up and used magnets to pick up nails around the yard. I understand that accidents happen, especially on windy days and being high on a roof puts safety first. So my only suggestion is that the workers cover any major areas that may be damaged by falling materials. There was a minor incident which was resolved to my satisfaction. Note also that you will need to cover your landscaping before roof replacement. I had tulip bulbs which had already popped out so I had to cover them with stakes and sheeting. Overall, my husband and I are pleased with James Patterson of CJ Deans and would highly recommend them.

Closer Look General Contracting (aka We'llStickItToYou GC)…read more About a year ago, Closer Look GC was subcontracted to remove an engineered floor (which is glued down), and install new laminate flooring. They showed up and began the removal process of the engineered hardwood. It was clear that they were having difficulty removing the glue from the concrete. I explicitly stated that they needed to inform me prior to installing the laminate flooring because I wanted to ensure the glue was gone before the install. I was working from home so I could supervise the work. Unfortunately I had to leave for about 30 minutes. When I returned they had a large portion of the flooring installed on top of the area that had glue remaining, but they assured me that there was no glue remaining. They had at least 4 men here doing work, using cutting tools and it was very loud. They were banging against walls with their tools, which concerned me because I had just had the place repainted. They also only spoke in Spanish so I was unable to know what the conversations were about. Although they needed to return at a later date because they didn't have the correct door threshold, they finished everything else in one day! Thank goodness they didn't have it, because I did not pay them the remaining balance at that time. Well, a few MONTHS later they called to let me know the threshold had arrived and they were ready to return to install it. I told the field supervisor, "I'm not so sure I want you back in my house. You ruined my newly-painted walls, and the flooring makes a 'sticky' sound when walked on it". I followed up by telling them that they could return if they were willing to pull the flooring up and redo it, at their sole expense. I also told them they needed to repair the wall damage. He pretty much hung up on me. I never paid the remaining $3,500 and they never challenged that, so you know they did a poor job. Don't be fooled by their website pics. The gallery pictures shown of the brown and yellow house (with Bluestone) under 'Exteriors' are impressive, and very misleading. Closer Look GC does poor work. Their appraiser even told me that the client of that house was a "pain in the a$$". I'm not kidding. That should have been my red flag. So take a Closer Look before you hire Closer Look GC.

William cleaned the gutters and inspected the porch gutter. He discovered that water had been leaking under the shingles due to improper roof construction. For a reasonable price he replaced a section of rotted roof and shingle. Later that week it rained and I noticed that there was still an issue with water leakage. I called them and William came out that day to inspect. He made some additional repairs (about an hour of work). The next morning it was raining again. I inspected and found that water was still leaking. About 10 minutes later William CALLED ME and asked how the repair was doing and if he could come take a look. He spent the next 8 hours making major repairs and correcting major defects caused by the contractors who originally built the house. All of this was done at no additional charge. I am pretty sure he took a loss on our house, but he was determined to get it right and do a good job for us. That is rare quality in a repair technician/contractor these days. So I highly recommend Gutter Cleaning Pros and hope that you all will use them in the future.
