We were allowed to step out to get lunch & come back if we wanted to but we didn't. It was confusing at first when we got there bc the whole center was called and owned by Evergreen but the climbing center was at the back of the building as it's own entity lol. The Climbing Center was big & spacious. We were able to put our belongings in cubbies including our shoes as we had to change into climbing shoes. They also provided us a harness to use. The only downfall to the center was that we were able to only climb on two walls with the auto belay but as beginners that was okay with us. The bouldering section was also fun as we tried to master one section of it. There was a good amount of other people in the center as well. I believe the workers name was Eileen, she was very informative in what we needed to know as precaution in climbing or bouldering and was very knowledgeable. It was a great 1st time experience for us all!

I thought that was super cool, and my kids loved it. The gym has high walls as well as a small bouldering area. The mats were a bit harder than what I was used to but nothing to worry about. The service was fantastic, and we were shown how to fall and given all the rules before we started. I can appreciate a gym that is safety oriented. By the time we left it was getting very busy. I've been climbing for almost 10 years and I love that this area has two gyms, both with very different pros. For me, Evo's TR (top rope) area is where it's at. I've grown to love the tricky setting from a few of the route setters. If you are a climber, you know you want workable difficulty. Well, Evo delivers. I also know that the staff that works with the youth climbing programs are kind, helpful, and organized. I wouldn't hesitate to send my kiddos there.

Review: The mark of a great service company is its willingness to empower their people to do great things. While there are many guide companies in the Whites, Northeast Mountaineering is one of the great ones. I was scheduled for a skills class on a Saturday with a summit attempt the next day, Sunday. I was solo, but matched with 4 others for the Sunday climb. As is often routine in the White Mountains, the weather Sunday was looking poor- so I asked about making the summit trip on Saturday instead. This is tough to change with so many schedules- but my first contact was a NEM guide, Jordan, who relayed the message to Corey and, within an hour, made the change. Very responsive. To my surprise, when I arrived the next day, I was the only client. The others bailed, but NEM kept their commitment to me to attempt the summit. Very dedicated. I met my guide, Dakota, and we discussed our climb. I mentioned a family connection to the mountain, a great uncle, one of two climbers who died in 1932 attempting to reach the top. I knew of a cross marking the place they collapsed and asked if we could include a visit to the spot in our plan. Immediately, a flurry of activity between Dakota, Judy (Dispatcher) and two other guides working on a solution. In 15 min, the team agreed on a completely different ascent, traverse and decent. Very impressive. Their commitment to the client is systemic- a company energized by the goals of the client. The hike was absolutely amazing. Dakota checked my equipment; he explained the plans for the climb including route, weather, emergencies and our mandatory turnback time. During the hike, Dakota was professional yet personal. He regularly took the opportunity to teach about technique, contingency, snow conditions, past experiences and opportunities for future excursions. His passion for the outdoors was obvious and shared. A great sense of humor but with an keen eye for his role as guide. Several times, he would quietly plant a foot hold and allow me to pass ensuring that, if I tripped up, the fall would be short and humorous- and nothing more. Dakota and I started as client/guide and left as friends. Very happy. Our summit was one of the most amazing moments in my life-- only to be surpassed, moments later, in finding the cross of my Great Uncle, 420' from the top of Mt. Washington. There's an outdoor deck/patio that you can sit and relax on too if you want to take a break from your workout. Although the bouldering section is relatively smaller (compared to the Portsmouth location which is entirely bouldering), there is a good variety of problems and wall angles, plus an additional smaller wall on the upper level. Price wise, I'd say it's a little steep especially if you only want to boulder (or only ropes- I wish gyms offered discounts for one type of climbing but I understand that would be difficult to track/enforce). And amenities are a little older/dated, but they do have showers, foot rinse stations etc. And a nice retail/merch section of front. For first time visitors - I know every gym has its standards/procedures, but the entire mandatory walkthrough and explanation of all classes/events offered is a bit overkill in my opinion. I think that is something that should be announced/posted on flyers and elaborated on in person on a case-by-case basis. All in all though, I do enjoy this facility and try to make it out at least once during my annual beach vacation in Maine. @azfitfoodfun

That being said, the Climbing Gym is an awesome place to learn to climb! And to just hang out. Everyone there is extremely friendly and they're also nice enough to teach you how to climb. Since this is the only indoor climbing gym that I'm aware of in Hanover... it's pretty much as good as it gets! Go go go! You can borrow shoes. Rock climbing is exhausting, but quite rewarding :)

It is cheaper to buy a month pass ($40), but the quality of the gym can hardly warrant more than one visit per month. I've paid $15+ out in San Francisco, but those are kick ass gyms with great facilities and paid, good route setters. This gym...well, it has potential, but it is a mess and has horrible route setting. While the lady owner is nice, the guy is a control freak and has no idea how to climb or set routes. He sets everything with holds super far apart and thinks that makes for interesting/hard climbing. The holds haven't been cleaned in probably 7 years. The floors are disgusting, the place stinks. And the bathrooms....oh my, the bathrooms. I actually dry heaved when I went into the Men's room last time I was there. There is some kind of septic back up that emanates the most foul smell out of the sink. And the water in the sink hardly even works. We all thought that the change in ownership might fix some of the infrastructure problems: but they did absolutely nothing! Avoid this place!

This hike is so epic. One of my all time favorites. I was intrigued by this adventure, with the…read morepromise of perpetual ice in summer. This is a difficult excision, and the trail may be wet, and even in rock climbing shoes is slippery. There were also orange slugs everywhere, which with foot hold slipping got squished by hands. The first several miles are flat, and then you start bouldering into and then up the Ravine. We did find some show in June, and the caves were cold and refreshing. The climb up to the top of the ravine is challenging, but you are rewarded with epic photo ops and views. The only unpleasantness was the mosquitos and black flies. Kids always bring your bug repellent. You can also extend the hike to hit the peak of Mount Adams. It is prone to storms and lightening. You can seek shelter in the hut near the peak if trapped in a storm. You do not have to go back down the ravine, you can return vis the Mount Adams trail, it is a loop.
