Great mountaineering week end with RedLine Guiding! First day was training, reviewing necessary gear, learning to use ice axe and crampons, self arrest, etc. As our guide Ken explained the content of his backpack, you could tell he was more than prepared to handle safely any situation, and explained in detail everything. RedLine was able to provide us all the necessary gear (very high quality). Second day was Mount Washington with two guides : Ken and Ryan. Their great experience on the mountain could be felt in all the small decisions that add up to make the hike very nice and safe. We started at the right hour, with a pace everybody could follow. When we got to the steepest section (Hillary step), they installed an optional fixed rope to serve as a handrail to bolster confidence and safety. Everybody was able to make it through this hard part. Then the two guides perfectly handled an uneasy situation where one of us was to tired to summit. walking with a steady pace and anticipating any problem (winds, layers, ...) Ryan led us to the summit and back. We were again carefully guided on the way down, and finished with headlamps on easy trail. It was a very good experience. The hike is spectacular, and ice axe and crampons really help.a I felt safe and confident at any time, while knowing that both Ken and Ryan had each experience and gear to overcome any troubles. read more

Amazing day! Very responsive to questions before the hike, planning appropriate gear and checking weather conditions. My guide shared a ton of additional information and answered even more questions I had about hiking more of the 48 4Ks in the future on my own. Guides are a wealth of experience and knowledge. She also pointed out many different plants and other interesting things along the way. Great conversation, if you like to chat. If not, that's ok too. Pace was good for me as I'm a slower hiker. Checked on me to make sure I was hydrated and feeling good. I felt very safe. I had wanted to hike both Pierce and Eisenhower on this hike, if possible based on time and my ability. When we got to top of Pierce and had lunch we reviewed how much time it would take and calculated when we'd be back to car based on my ability and how I was feeling. We did it! Time was absolutely perfect! We even had time to see a beautiful waterfall a little bit off trail on the way down. I can't say enough great things about this experience. I'm already signed up again to hike Mount Washington in the future. In the meantime I feel more confident and better prepared to hike more on my own. Plus they offer other classes to help you learn how to use a compass, introduction to backpacking 101, wilderness first aid, winter hiking and more. read more

I contacted Redline Guiding to guide me in my attempt to reach the summit of Mt. Washington during the winter season. I spoke with Mike Cherim over the phone and went on the mountain with Ken Hodges. I met both of them on the day before heading out. They did a great job advising me on choice of gear (I brought my own, even though they have all the gear available). Also, the route that was chosen was exactly what I was hoping for. Great views, consistent and direct. The hike itself was nothing short of great. It felt like hiking with a friend, not with an instructor. Ken was even willing to extend the round trip past the sunset (after confirming that I had a headlamp). I am going to try for the summit again next winter season, and so far Ken was extremely helpful in answering my questions from his experience as to how I should prepare, physically, or gear-wise. And the follow-up with pictures that I received by e-mail a few days after was a great touch, I did not expect it and was very pleasantly surprised. I had a great time during that trip and would gladly recommend Redline Guiding to anyone. read more

If you're looking for something memorable to do in the Conway area besides driving up Mount Washington, this should be it! My father and I took the all-day wilderness navigation course with Mike and had a blast. After a short introductory activity where we learned how to use a compass, we spent a couple hours learning how to read a map, set a course to wherever you want, including isolated peaks that have no official hiking trails. I would definitely recommend the full day course because in the afternoon we took our new skills outside and bushwacked through the woods at one of the local parks. It felt great to go off the beaten path, literally, and feel equipped to navigate back to it in an emergency. Mike was a great guide; he was funny, knowledgeable, and patient. He really wanted everyone to understood the concepts before they left and invited anyone to call, email, or text him if they ever felt they forgot anything we learned. I can't stress enough, if you want to do something fun in the White Mountains and learn a skill that you can go home and brag about, sign up for a navigation course! read more

There are quite a few things that I wanted to accomplish before I was too old to get them done, and one was to traverse the Presidentials in one day, running what was runnable, power-hiking the rest. My wife wisely did not want me to do it alone, so I contacted Redline and they provided the right person for the task. My experience running the FKT course of the Presidentials with a Redline guide was all that I had hoped for. It did take us a while to complete the traverse, which was just fine as I am injury-free and totally happy with how everything went, just a month shy of my 70th birthday. Phoebe, my guide, was a delight to run and hike with; her knowledge of the Whites in general and the Presidentials in particular is amazing. I am very thankful to Redline for providing just the experience that I had in mind at the outset, and I also appreciate the great weather they provided! read more

I had such an amazing experience with Redline Guiding. Although I thought I was in decent shape, I quickly realized that climbing the White Mountains was no joke! It took mental and physical strength to keep pushing up the mountain. Our guide, Ryan McGuire was so accommodating to our wants and needs. Ryan is truly a professional who has his head constantly in the game. He was extremely knowledgeable and inspiring! He listened, understood our physical ability (more than we probably did) and acclimated to our constant change of plans! I couldn't have asked for a better individual to lead us and support us. Thank you to Ryan and Redline Guiding for allowing me to get away from the craziness of life to recoup! I will start building my staircase made out of boulders right now for next year's training! Much love, H read more

New to White Mt. hiking, I chose Redline Guiding for my introduction. Their professional web presence, mirrored the services they ultimately delivered: thorough, precise, efficient, attentive, personalized, thoughtful, fun, flexible and always prepared. Mike and my daily guide Jeff tailored each day to my desires with varied trails and environments based on my skill. I asked for variety, a challenge, solitude, and inspiration and was educated, motivated, and lead on the best 4 day journey I could hope for. Each trail was a magnificent surprise to scenic views, waterfalls, silent forests, varied elevation changes, secluded ponds and endless beauty only nature can provide. Their passion for the White Mts elevated mine. Redline will lead the next journey too. Thank you Redline for a wonderful experience. read more

If you're interested in winter mountaineering and being prepared to summit a peak, I highly recommend Redline Guiding. If you're physically fit enough I recommend the full day course followed by the summit. I now feel confident that I can properly use crampons and an ice axe. The number one thing I learned is that it is essential to stay on your feet and proper training and hiking in crampons is highly essential. Thanks to Mike and Ty for my classroom and outdoor training I was ready to summit with Ryan. Ryan was highly qualified and a pleasure to spend the day with. We had challenging conditions but never once did I not feel confident in my guide. I also opted for their Ready Pack and although I own many backpacks I wanted to know everything I would need would be with me. It gave me extra security. read more

As someone from the Midwest visiting the area for the first time, I reached out to Redline to book a guided, half-day, sunrise hike. Mike worked with me at the booking to plan a route suitable for my abilities and comfort level, and one that would also fit the experience I was looking for. I was more than happy with the hike and the whole experience exceeded any expectations I had. Absolutely fantastic! Mike was also my guide and taught me quite a few things and even recommended places to visit with the rest of my day. Mike was safety conscious and patient with my frequent stops on some of the steeper sections. He even brought an extra sit mat for me while we waited for the sun to rise at our viewpoint; I didn't even think to bring one. I would book again with Redline. read more

I've taken the Wilderness Navigation class, and two fantastic guided hikes in the White Mountains. Each guide was a different person suitable for my needs, requests, with safety a priority and knowledgeable about the area, plants, flowers, and so on. Always professional and a great time! Would I hire them again? Yes! And I am with a three peak hike soon in the northern Presidential Range soon. I feel fortunate to have had Redline Guiding help me achieve my hiking goals. 7/2019 update: Redline Guiding recently guided my one day Presidential Traverse and, again, it was a perfectly planned. This was my fourth outdoor adventure with them and another great experience. read more

It's rare to find someone that truly loves what they do. Even rarer still to find those with the ability to teach the things they've been doing for so long they've become as second nature as breathing. Mike is both of these and more. Mike brings a wealth of outdoors knowledge and jolly attitude that makes every outing a pleasure no matter how miserable the conditions. Layering, packing efficiently, gear care, simplified navigation, safety, French step tips... He used every opportunity to touch on relevant topics as they arose. He is very detail and safety oriented and almost more importantly has an amazing ability to read the group he is with. 100% recommend. read more

The guide assigned to my hike (Dominic) was awesome! He was able to easily guide me through 2 bushwhacks, a slide, and several water crossings to help me accomplish my goal of hiking all of NH's peaks that are over 4K (finished my last peak - Owls Head). We were on the trail together for 9 hours (16 miles), and I felt very comfortable with him the entire time. He was very accommodating to rest/water/refuel stops and pacing. Conversation easily flowed, and it became quite apparent how qualified Dominic is to lead people through the wilderness areas of NH. I highly recommend using this service to build skills and confidence while out in the NH wilderness. read more

First time utilising a guide service, although I've taken WFA through Redline, but what a great exposure to (for me) a new sport! I could have fuddled my way through a first-time ski tour in the White Mountains but my guide Dominic took all the guess work out of it and helped me avoid some common mistakes. He even pre-scouted the trip a week ahead to know the terrain & route... An excellent day on snow and I highly recommend Dominic for all things uphill (ie skiing, climbing, ice-climbing). It's clear that Redline guides are not only experts in their respective disciplines, they also are passionate for the sport and for the wilderness. Well done. read more

Mike and Bill (our guides) were both very experienced, courteous, responsive and fun! We hiked up Huntington Ravine Trail on Mount Washington - a trail that, notwithstanding my status as an experienced hiker, I was nervous to do alone. Both Mike and Bill shared their experience on this trail with me, led the way and boosted my confidence. Along the way, they shared some interesting stories about the history of the area, pointed out geographic features of interest and offered advice on hiking / scrambling techniques where needed. We had an excellent adventure and I would definitely recommend them! Dave T. - New York read more

This is a 5 star review and it is well deserved! The owner took me and my 74 year old mother out on a half day private tour. He took us to a few popular can't miss spots as well as some places we could've never experienced without a local. He kept us laughing and enjoying the White Mountains as we were chauffeured around the beauty of the National Forest. On top of the tour, Mike made us a video of our day of escapades for us to enjoy and share with friends and family. This guy is talented and knows his stuff. Passion is infectious. Thanks Mike! read more

We are avid White Mountain hikers, but we decided this trail merited a guide based on the level of difficulty. It was a great decision. Ken's familiarity with the trail gave us the extra confidence we needed on such a difficult hike. He helped us maneuver around the most challenging areas, giving us suggestions of how to get up and where to use hand and footholds. He was sensitive to areas in which we might need an extra foot boost or backpack hold and was always ready to help. I highly recommend Redline Guiding for your most challenging hikes! read more

I am deathly afraid of heights, so, of course, hiking the Huntington Ravine Trail became my obsession, my White Whale. I had myself convinced I was not capable of doing it. But Ken Hodges of Redline Guiding got me up and over the HRT with such skill that I remained absolutely calm as if gravity did not exist. If you are looking for a competent, friendly and supportive guide to get you safely through an adventure in the mountains of the NE look no further than Redline Guiding. These folks are wonderful. read more

I've worked with Redline Guiding on two separate occasions when I've been managing a group of 15 - 20 people. My goals were to offer a safe and fun hiking experience in the White Mountains. Something accessible to all levels, that fit within a tight timeframe. The team at Redline recommended two different hikes that fit perfectly to our unique demands. If you're planning a group excursion in the White, certainly reach out to Mike and the gang at Redline to ensure a successful day in the woods! read more
