The majority of the teachers have master degrees from Boston College and are excellent teachers. The staff and other educators are meticulously chosen and contribute to the school at the highest level. St. John School is only Catholic elementary school (Age 2 - 6th grade) in the heart of Boston proper and is conveniently located in the North End - and close to all major employers for parents to consider. Many families attend from East Boston, Medford, Revere, Saugus and many Boston neighborhoods. The students are out-performing BPS schools on MAP testing and exceptionally prepared for junior high. The 6th grade students interested in exam schools opt in to tutoring and prep for the fall exams and outperform their peers in many instances. The school community is bar none the best. Families have left SJS and returned because the community of teachers, staff, parents, grandparents, and extended family are exceptional. You cannot find this level of care and community anywhere else! This is also the most affordable private school option for many families who want to instill a Catholic education. All the students participate in what's called the Tower Garden. Ms. Shay created a hydroponic garden that is tended by each class over the course of the year. After the greens and veggies are harvested, they are hand delivered by students to different local non profit organizations like St. Anthony's Shrine and ABCD. Having the option of afterschool from 2:30 pm - 6pm plus a variety of enrichment classes and music lessons, makes this school even more attractive and special. Tours are provided by appointment all year round. And parents are always willing to share their experiences. I should note that a 2 year old program begins in September. That's in addition to the 2.9 yo program. Definitely check out the social media pages too. Facebook and instagram @stjohnschoolnorthend

The last remaining Catholic school in Boston proper one understands how it is still here 120 years later, it leads in educational programming from Greek-Latin Roots program, Scratch, Kahn Academy to language and arts. The majority of faculty have a graduate degree. Teachers also are available to there students around the clock either before during or after school and via email. Parents are always kept abreast as to how their son is performing academically. BCH has a very challenging curriculum with many AP courses. Competitive sports program and numerous intramural , also many wonderful clubs available. One of the many things I like about BCH is a large number of students commute via commuter train or subway from various suburbs providing the boys with a college like feel. At first I was concerned about our son taking the train from our town west of Boston to school but I quickly saw how independent he became and he learned how to navigate public transportation throughout the city. Our son came to BCH after attending pre-k through 8 at two "Fancy Schools" the later being a jacket and tie dress code. We loved both of these schools and love how BCH is rounding him off as well educated gentleman and a " Man for Others".

Every staff and faculty member along with parents of students I have met are very enthusiastic, helpful and are huge supporters of the school. They teach kids how to take responsibility for their actions & their lives and teach them "manners" all while providing a fabulous education. My son has made many friends and simply LOVES going to school there. For him it works fabulously. I feel as if he is getting a far superior education that he would have in our town, even though our town has a good high school. I would highly recommend BC High and feel fortunate I was able to send my son there.

The Dearborn Middle School is a very special place. It was…read moreoriginally an all-girls school opened in 1912 to teach young girls how to become good housewives (honest!) but it is now a school teaching kids grade 6-8. The principal, Jose Duarte, is a really great guy - and he is very proud of his school. If you're in the area, ask for him to give you a tour. You will see and hear how much pride and love he has for this place. It's an old school - and it still need a lot of TLC, but it is making great strides to become even better. - The school itself can handle a much larger amount of kids then it currently has enrolled. I think there are about 90 students currently attenting - but the establishment itself is meant to handle a couple hundred. They are working towards becoming a high school, and they'll get there. The upward progress this place has made makes it easy to see that they will be a diamond in the rough that is Roxbury/Dorchester. - Some of the highlights of this place is the room on the third floor that was professionally re-done, as well as PCs for every student. The kicker is a giant touch-screen whiteboard at the front of the class. No markers, no chalk. Very high tech and very cool. The kids LOVE this and are 100% engaged in class when they are in this particular room. I wish all their rooms could be like this one. Up on the fourth floor is an old room used 100 years ago to teach young girls how to be good housewives. It's a cool piece of history you should see for yourself. The push towards college is felt here. Every effort is made to help these kids understand that education doesn't end after grade 8 or 12. College is where it's at. And there are a number of resources and reminders here keeping these kids on the straight and narrow. A BIG highlight is a that this place provides breakfast and lunch for every student. I forget if that is free or not - I'll have to check for you. But how great is that being a parent and not having to worry about that for your kids each and every day? - The kids - the kids are GREAT. You should see their faces. They love their school. It's great to see that pride that you'd think wouldn't exist these days. - Some of the hallways and rooms are unused, and they're working to rehabilitate them so that the school can expand. It's not easy, but they'll get there. - If you're in the area, I strongly urge you to get involved with this place. They welcome volunteers and help of any kind. It's worth it. This place needs and deserves it. There are a lot of jerks out there, and you know it - so make up for their immaturity and selfishness by volunteering here today!!!
