Just had my tissue graft surgery with Dr. Kirkland yesterday, and the reviews about this office and staff are spot on. To backtrack, my consultation with Dr. Kirkland was a few weeks ago, and as they say, first impressions, are lasting. In this case it was very positive, and I was very impressed with the office. I was greeted warmly at check in, and they offered bottled water in the waiting room. After I waited for a few minutes, Lynn called me in, who is one of the office's Surgical Assistants, and she also greeted me warmly, and gave me a tour of the office. The office is NICE! It has a super tranquil energy, is very clean, and the rooms where you're treated face a wooded area! - it actually feels more like a yoga or meditation center! After I was given a tour, I was taken to Dr. Kirkland's office, which is a glass haven!, and asked to wait (oh, and I was given a new patient gift at this point too, which um, never happens in a Dentist office! Loved it!). There was a menu of add ons I was able to review while I waited (add ons for surgery like an eye mask, ear phones, etc., that you could request to make the experience more pleasant). When Dr. Kirkland came in, she was very nice and really took the time to find out how I like to receive information, so should could communicate information in the best way for me. After we spoke and talked through what I had been advised by my dentist, Dr. Allen Bowns, then we went into the exam room and she took a look herself. She confirmed what they believed I needed, which was tissue graft surgery for my receding bottom gums. I really REALLY appreciated the time she spent with me to explain what the surgery would do - my options of using my own tissue or donor tissue, and what to expect with recovery. I did not feel rushed and I felt like I was armed with information to make the best decision for me. I also did not feel pressured to schedule an appointment, but I was explained that in my best interest, it would be beneficial to consider having it sooner so the gums did not get worse. During the appointment, actually I think even before!, I had already made up my mind that I was going to do it. After my consultation wrapped, I told Dr. Kirkland I would like to make the appointment and scheduled the appointment for yesterday. So to the surgery! I had the surgery yesterday and a good friend of mine went with me for moral support (thank god for great friends!). I went ahead and paid at check in (at the consultation they do a good job reviewing payment options with you so you know what to expect and what to budget for). I took 1/2 a star off of this review because at check in yesterday they quoted me a different amount than what they quoted me at my consultation, but thankfully we got it resolved quickly, and it wasn't a bad experience. It just added a little stress to an appointment where I did already have a bit of anxiety going in. But they were very nice and professional while we figured it out! The surgery itself was for a surgery, really great! Lynn was THE best and did a great job prepping me on what to expect and reviewing all of the post recovery things to know and medications I'd be taking, and she spoke clearly to me and to my friend - who was awesome taking notes! I did take another 1/2 star off here too because she was surprised when I did not take one of my medications before surgery (Ibuprofen 600). Apparently I was supposed to get medication from the pharmacy before my appointment, but when Dr. Kirkland's office called me to get my pharmacy information, they didn't advise me to do this, so I didn't know. Thankfully Lynn had a back up, and I was given Motrin to take on the spot before surgery. They used laughing gas during the surgery (HIGHLY RECOMMEND, it's awesome!), and the surgery itself was super quick. I chose to bring my iPod and I think I listened to 4 or 5 songs, that's it!, and then the surgery was done! The laughing gas totally relaxes you and with the novocaine they put in your mouth, you barely feel anything and it's super comfortable. The whole appointment from check in, to prepping, and surgery - I was in and out in less than 90 minutes. I have my 2 week check up coming up. Right now I feel great. The medication has helped with pain and discomfort and I am hopeful that the gums will recover soon so I can eat normal food and be done with a mushy and liquid diet! No bueno! But I felt like I was in great hands, and very much appreciate Dr. Kirkland and her staff for taking such good care of me. If you have to have periodontal work, this is a great office to go to and you will be in the hands of professionals who know what they're doing and will make you feel comfortable. I highly recommend! p.s. After my consultation, I think within a week or 2, I received a handwritten card from Dr. Kirkland and team in the mail for thanking me for choosing them. The hygienist was awesome and did a good job. After the cleaning I had a horrible experience at northpoint periodontics today. A newly joined periodontist did a so called 'thorough examination' and losen the fixtures that was done on my tooth in a previous visit that costed $5000.This was without even explaining what he is going to do. In December of 2019, I went into the office to get a quote on services. The quote to have all the work done to my gums was $5000 knowing how this would affect my family I split up the surgery into one in 2019 and one in 2020. The front office checked my insurance and at no time told me they were out of network or that my surgery would not be covered. Moving forward in March 2020 I got a check for my first surgery covering me 80% as expected. I went forward with my second surgery in June knowing once again that Delta Dental would cover 80%, I double checked with the front office everything was still the same and I would be covered as I was the first time. I was told everything was still the same and I was good to go. I went in June 22,2020 had my second surgery, now Delta Dental is telling me they will not cover this claim and the office of North Point Periodontics is telling me that "it's not there problem" and I can file it in court. The sad part here is this will really affect my family, and no one on either end seems to care at all. I am stuck with a bill of $2200 when both sides gave me the thumbs up and the go ahead. At any time if anyone would have told me that nothing was going to be covered the second time. I would have never put my family in this sort of situation and any time you call both the office and or Delta dental they put it both back on one another and wash their hands of it. Overall just a very sad and disappointing situation, where the only person who loses here is my family. read more

It's been almost a year since my experience with North Point Periodontics started. My dentist, whose practice is in the same set of buildings, recommended I get my receding gum line checked out. I hemmed and hawed and just didn't get it done. So when he next recommended it 6 months later, I decided that I'd put it off long enough. On my first visit, everyone was friendly, but I did spend a lot of time waiting since the visit was a multistep process of paperwork, examination, assessment, and explanation, with a few papers to sign (though thankfully electronically) at each step. While I could have scheduled my procedure right away, I needed to wait a few months for personal reasons. They understood, explained the risks in waiting, but in no way pressured me to schedule it sooner. I made the appointment and was given an estimate of charges as well as payment options. They took the time to thoroughly explain the payment options, as payment is due at the time of service, though they do file with your insurance so that you'll be (partially) reimbursed. As the date of the surgery approached, I was contacted at least twice to confirm my appointment, and was even able to move it earlier. I was quite pleased at how flexible the scheduling has been. The day of the procedure, I was signed in quickly brought back to the chair quickly. The nurse and the doctor were both very friendly and reassuring. After the short procedure, the nurse explained all my prescriptions (which they'd already called in to my pharmacy of choice the night before), and then shown to the front to schedule my follow up visit and pay. North Point Periodontics made the whole process as painless as serious dental work can be. read more

I had gum grafting surgery with Dr. Kirkland about 3 years ago. It was the worst medical/dental experience of my life. There were no pre-op antibiotics, so it got infected. When I called the office to report symptoms, office staff dismissed me. I insisted on being seen & then was prescribed antibiotics & steroids due to the terrible infection. (I am a nurse & followed post op instructions to the letter.) The cost was over $5,000 & it was so poorly done that I now must have the surgery redone for ~$7,000 by a reputable periodontist. This surgery should only have to be performed once. I rarely post a negative review, I just don't go back. However, this was so physically painful & expensive, I think it's important to let other people know. read more

They were awesome!!! I had a gum graph done the beginning of April and instead of taking tissue from the top of my mouth I was able to use donor tissue!! The girl I nanny 16 years old went to dr Edelstein (another office) didn't get the option like I did and her surgery was more painful and her mouth took longer to heal. Very pleased with my visit and would recommend anyone getting gum surgery to go here!! The staff was amazing and so nice. I would also recommend wearing headphones and turn on some music helped me relax. read more

I've been going to them for several years (for perio maintenance/cleaning) and have been very happy with the hygienists I've had. I've gone to both Linda & Jody for my cleanings. Both Linda & Jody have been very gentle, patient, compassionate, and accommodating with me. I have a lot of anxiety when it comes to dental visits, and both of them have been willing to work with me with this. I'm probably a horrible dental patient, but both these women have been wonderful to me. I highly recommend Linda or Jody to anyone who has any dental anxiety. (I'd imagine everyone there is great, but I've only worked with those 2 ladies.) read more

I was referred to this specialty practice by my new dentist to address chronic periodontal disease. I met with Dr. Kirkland and at first was impressed about how much time she took to discuss periodontal health and also describe the laser procedure she wanted to perform along with other related services. I suspected the procedure might be expensive (maybe $2,000 for the 2 hours it was estimated to take) but cost was not discussed at the time. Dr. Kirkland then personally performed the evaluation which was great since I find it normally handled by dental technicians. After more discussion with the doctor, I was ever so pleasantly handed off to the treatment plan coordinator (which I believe would be more aptly named the "Finance Department"). Without any warning whatsoever from the Doctor or coordinator, I was presented with a piece of paper displaying a $10,000 plus estimate with more than $8,000 representing the laser procedure which was the only procedure noted by Dr. Kirkland as an option. While still numb from the shock and awe approach given to the presentation of the estimate, I was then asked to sign a procedure consent form and instructed to read the contents of the document later at home (there was literally a hand written note on the consent form stating "Read at Home"). For what it is worth, I was offered "free" one year financing or a cash discount. When I declined to sign the consent form, I was asked whether I would like them to call me to set up an appointment. I replied I would call them instead at which time I was told the consult charge was $203 which I paid (my dentist also charged me $85 for a similar consult). Now this specialty practice may contain the best periodontal specialists ever but, their approach to mapping out a patient plan without even discussing price first is absurd. I find more and more practitioners working to segregate themselves from the billing of their services which is a great way to alienate your patients. Not only will I not be seeking treatment here, my (now former) dentist lost my business because of his referral. read more

Dr Li performed laser surgery for my gums. I have had gum surgery before so I was extremely nervous. Every one was so nice and took care of me. They made sure I was comfortable. Dr Li made sure I was not in pain So glad I found this office. read more

I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Kirkland and Dr. Li. You know you're in good hands the moment you walk through the door. No one likes to have to go to the Periodontist and have these types of procedures done but I have to say that they make the entire experience as pleasant and enjoyable as possible. I visited Dr. Kirkland to see if I should get a crown extension or an implant. She recommended the extension for a variety of reasons which was a huge relief- it was less expensive and invasive. This was also after my dentist had recommended an implant and she overruled him. During the procedure, she told me it would take 40-45 minutes, and after 30, she said "all done!" The procedure exceeded my expectations to say the least and has healed perfectly. She is professional, trustworthy, and runs a great practice with top notch staff. I am in the process of getting an implant from a broken crown. I started seeing a periodontist in Duluth for the tooth extraction & bone graft but was feeling that I needed a second opinion on how much time was needed prior to the build up and actual implant surgery. I called North Point Periodontics and explained my question to a receptionist. She said she couldn't really answer my question unless I came in for a consultation & the Dr could take a look which was I was told was complimentary. So I made an appointment for a consultation. I met with Dr. Li who was absolutely pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable. He looked at my extracted tooth and suggested I get a CT scan at their office to have a better picture of the area. So, Dr. Li leaves examining room and I was escorted to the finance office run by a woman named Smita. Smita explained there was a $300+ fee for the CT Scan. I explained that I was only there for the consultation to see if I could possibly move the date up on my actual implant and I was not really interested in the CT scan or paying for it especially since I had not made a decision on whether I was hiring this practice. This is when things went south quickly. Smita was difficult to communicate with and interrupted me mid-sentence more times that i can count. I finally just told her that we were at an impasse because I was not paying for the CT scan and I needed to leave as I had another appointment and had been there 45 minutes. As I grabbed my purse to leave office, Smita said,"There is a charge for your visit today." I explained to her that it wasn't a "visit", it was a consultation that I understood to be complimentary based on the fact that my question could not be answered without the tooth being examined. Dr. Li literally examined my mouth for 5 minutes, maybe less! Just to make my life easier I said,"fine, I'll pay whatever it is, I just want to leave this place." At that Smita said she would go talk to her superiors and after about 10 minutes Dr Li came into the office and said he was going to "write off" the visit and apologized for the misunderstanding. Overall, I am giving 3* because Dr. Li & the staff were very nice and I appreciate him not giving me a hard time about the consultation fee,(that I was unaware of), however, their finance person named Smita was not personable, was unprofessional and rude. Based on my interaction with Smita today I would not return to the office to complete my dental implant. Staff are the face of the business and Smita did not represent well today. read more

I've had such a great experience with Dr. Kirkland and her team. I have a reoccurring gum issue associated with my pregnancy, and month after month, they take really take care of me. This was our first time at this office, Northpoint Periodontists & it was by far A+ rating hands down, Dr. Li & staff specifically! I can not say enough about our wonderful experience we had. From the moment I walked in to the office with our teenage daughter, who was the scheduled patient, it was first class! We were recommended to them after orthodontists, Dr. Jacqueline Malone & Dr. Jordan consulted to remove her braces after several years. She required a gum evaluation & possible correction procedure due to genetics, etc. Not only did Dr. Li do the evaluation @ 5:30 pm, he went ahead & performed the procedure which lasted after hours until almost 8 pm. I actually cried when I saw our daughter afterwards & noticed an improvement almost immediately after 10 looooong years in various braces' stages. As our daughter is in the recovery period, I had to post this. I'm at a loss for words, but grateful & thankful beyond belief to this wonderful doctor & office staff! read more
