Great park we found out about from friends who discovered the ENORMOUS play structure here. The…read morepark includes the aforementioned playland, some baseball diamonds, an aquatic center and plenty of free space for the chilluns to burn off some energy. The benches and pavilions are quite nice as well and make for some perfect outdoor dining on spring evenings. It's located on the east side of Iowa City just past Sycamore mall, so it's a bit of a jaunt for those in North Liberty or Coralville. That said, it's not all that far and it's worth it for the playland. A must check out for families and close to Jimmy Jacks so you can get some legit takeout BBQ while you're here!

Do you ever wish there was an adult playground?…read more You know, where you could swing gleefully, strain to monkey across some bars or slide as you grin ear to ear-- maybe even build a completely BA sandcastle? Oh and most importantly, this mythical dream park is for ADULTS ONLY. If you have, consider yourself warned: DO NOT go to Mercer Park. Because oh my gosh, you'll be totally jealous at what the Iowa City kiddos get to play on. Iowa City's largest play area (I'm hard pressed to think of a bigger one) is only two years old and is pure magic. It's got a sensory play center, a net climbing course, a MASSIVE tower with enclosed slide and equipment meant for kiddos ages 2-to-5. There are also shelters, picnic tables, grills, lit baseball/softball fields, tee ball field, tennis courts, a refurbish old fire engine play structure... you name it-- it's got it. Even the indoor aquatic center lives at Mercer, too. There's ample parking and literally kids (and adults?) of all ages will enjoy it. My kids (ages 2 and 4) absolutely love the ginormous tower and crazy four person seesaw. Come check it out!

I spent a short time gambling at Riverside Casino on a Saturday afternoon after a round of golf at…read moreBlue Top Ridge! The casino floor itself isn't anything special - slots, table games, a poker room, small live music lounge, and a sports bar. The casino is clean and pleasant (assuming you don't mind the smell of cigarettes). I was truly searching for a reason to give give Riverside a full 5-star rating, but I couldn't justify it since I don't think there is really anything that sets this casino apart from ones nearby (I.e., Rhythm City in Davenport, Isle in Waterloo, Diamond Jo in Dubuque, etc.). Ultimately, if you are looking for a new spot to gamble, you should give Riverside a try. However, I don't think you need to go out of your way to experience the casino itself. Nothing to complain about, but also nothing to rave over. (Disclaimer: I actually came out ahead $18 which paid for my lunch on this day. So this review was not written in spite after losing a chunk of change!)

We recently booked a room at the Riverside casino for the Rick Springfield concert. Went to check…read morein and was not given a verbal confirmation on our room number, on the card it read that our room was on the 4th floor. Attempted to open the door and the card did not work, made several attempts, still nothing. Was heading back down to the front desk and found a phone. Called the front desk, told them my issue, they said that's not the correct room, our room was on the 1st floor. Opened the door and was surprised to see that the bathroom shower had a viewing window into the main room with a curtain.... really??? Next issue was a 2 drawer dresser that if you tried to close the drawer it would just pop out again.... The concert was great, but there was a lot of confusion on where to get in line for tickets, merchandise and drinks Same thing at some of the places to grab a bite to eat. Overall the room was pretty disappointing for the amount that we were charged. We'll be back for other shows in the future, but we will not stay overnight again.
