Going to Modern Woodmen Park is a must for any baseball fan. It is one of the oldest parks in the nation. Many MLB stars got their careers started here in Davenport, Iowa. This family friendly stadium offers a wide variety of entertainment for the whole family. If the great game of baseball isn't for you, check out the different amusement rides. The Ferris wheel is huge and gives spectators a glimpse of the field and mighty Mississippi River. The concessions have many great foods and drinks to purchase at reasonable prices. You won't go broke here like at a MLB stadium. Where else can you watch a baseball game, see river boats cruise the river, and hear trains fly down the tracks? Modern Woodmen Stadium is the answer.

On one side is a bridge and another side, an amusement park with Ferris wheel and merry go round. I walked around a lot. The layout is graded up high, as you had to walk 20 steps up to it. The reason 4/5 stars is lack of good concessions. A couple of places such as a Mexican grill weren't open. The line for this one grill was insanely long the whole night. The Whiteys ice-cream did not have malt cups, supposedly sold out the night before. Piss poor planning for a crowd. I settled for Cheesesteak nachos without onions and peppers in a helmet. Also shared a chip witch or chocolate chip cookie with ice-cream between it. The stadium was really iconic and cool. The Ferris wheel lit up at night. Just work on better concessions with product and have more open. Review 94 in 2023.

The benches and pavilions are quite nice as well and make for some perfect outdoor dining on spring evenings. It's located on the east side of Iowa City just past Sycamore mall, so it's a bit of a jaunt for those in North Liberty or Coralville. That said, it's not all that far and it's worth it for the playland. A must check out for families and close to Jimmy Jacks so you can get some legit takeout BBQ while you're here!

Oh and most importantly, this mythical dream park is for ADULTS ONLY. If you have, consider yourself warned: DO NOT go to Mercer Park. Because oh my gosh, you'll be totally jealous at what the Iowa City kiddos get to play on. Iowa City's largest play area (I'm hard pressed to think of a bigger one) is only two years old and is pure magic. It's got a sensory play center, a net climbing course, a MASSIVE tower with enclosed slide and equipment meant for kiddos ages 2-to-5. There are also shelters, picnic tables, grills, lit baseball/softball fields, tee ball field, tennis courts, a refurbish old fire engine play structure... you name it-- it's got it. Even the indoor aquatic center lives at Mercer, too. There's ample parking and literally kids (and adults?) of all ages will enjoy it. My kids (ages 2 and 4) absolutely love the ginormous tower and crazy four person seesaw. Come check it out!

This park is home of the Music in the Park Concert Series, Farmers Market and 4thFest. I've been going to this park for decades, it rarely disappoints. Recently I've been renting the south ballpark for youth softball practices. It's well maintained, is appropriately priced per hour and has a plethora of (nearby) parking. You can reserve ball fields through the Coralville Rec online, via a form. (Spring softball fields are insanely hard to come by and require a draft.) In addition to the great gathering areas, they have tennis courts, volleyball courts and number of baseball diamonds for use whenever. A great place to get outside and enjoy an afternoon regardless of what your interests!

We were in town for a 10U softball tournament and left with a third place finish. #GoJaguars. Things I liked: - Diamonds. The park boasts four softball diamonds that are well maintained. - Concession Stand. Gotta love a well stocked, well priced and shaded concession stand! - Proximity to Uptown Marion. Gotta love a quick five minute drive to grab some food! Things I didn't like: - Holy Parking, Batman. You basically need to park at the adjacent middle school or high school parking lots on tournament days. It's a lot of walking so make sure you're getting there early! - The Shade Situation. Uh, what shade? There are some trees planted that in ten years will be amazing but as of now, expect it to be a hot one at Lowe Park. Overall, the Marion community is lucky to have Lowe Park. It boasts some rad looking trails, an amphitheater, arts + environment center, community gardens, sculpture trail, an inclusive play structure and some pretty well done ballparks, IMO. I definitely wouldn't be mad if we played here again!

On our first attempt, we attended a work outing in the mezzanine area that got rained out after the 1st inning. Super disappointing. (Normally if the game is rained out, ticket holders are able to return for the rescheduled game. But they took our tickets when we entered the mezzanine.) This area has a great view from right field and groups can enjoy complimentary food and beverage throughout the game. Luckily, the other day I won a set of tickets from work and it turned out to be a beautiful evening so we were able to enjoy the entire game. The stadium is super clean and comfortable. Walking around the concessions area seems a little crowded but sitting never seems as full. (Typical minor leagues game.) There's plenty of free parking around the stadium, even after the game has started, and getting out isn't an absolute nightmare especially because the crowds clear out as the game goes on. Concession stand pricing is inflated as usual, but they seem to offer specials on a regular basis. Tickets are super affordable. All around it's a great option for cheap, wholesome fun!
