The pond is stocked with fish, so there's usually a few people out trying their luck at that, either along the shoreline or at the fishing pier. You'll see families, bicyclists, joggers, and walkers out around the area. There's parking along the street and also a lot at the north side to provide plenty of parking. There are some delicious restaurants that back right up to the park if you get hungry while you're there or if you need a walk after your meal.

There is a playground and swingset at this park along with some trails that head into the behind neighborhood. There was a family of 4 at the park playing on the playground when I arrived and they stayed for most of the time I was there. It was nice to sit outside in the shade and enjoy the outdoors. Will definitely return to this park, maybe even with my dog to take on a walk here.

There are two large structures with multiple slides of varying heights, and other things like ladders, firemen's poles, etc. There are also a few smaller stand-alone items, as well as benches for the tired old parents like me. The only downside to the playground is that it's not fenced in. It's in the center of the track / field, though. So the only ways your kid would make it into the street is either if your kid is the Flash, or you're a very distracted parent.

There's a lot going on here! I'll work my way from the front (directly entering) to the back…read more Immediately you will come to the high school baseball field. This field is top notch, by the way. :) Moving on is the concession stand and restrooms. Restrooms are small and have 2 stalls, but clean. There are several youth baseball and softball fields. The fields are well kept. Most of the fields have bleachers, however we typically bring our own chairs. Directly behind the baseball/softball fields are the youth soccer and football fields. Bring your own chairs for soccer and football games. Although there is a LARGE parking area, parking can be tight and/or non existent when all of the youth sports are happening. SRNA also has a tennis court, basketball hoops, and sand volleyball. The final building is the Timber Dome Lodge, which deserves it's own review. The Lake Macbride Trail starts here, which is a beautiful 5 mile trail into Lake Macbride State Park. Around the entire complex is a walking or biking trail. There are a couple of ponds used for wildlife conservation. The City of Solon does a great job of maintaining this area!

The benches and pavilions are quite nice as well and make for some perfect outdoor dining on spring evenings. It's located on the east side of Iowa City just past Sycamore mall, so it's a bit of a jaunt for those in North Liberty or Coralville. That said, it's not all that far and it's worth it for the playland. A must check out for families and close to Jimmy Jacks so you can get some legit takeout BBQ while you're here!

Oh and most importantly, this mythical dream park is for ADULTS ONLY. If you have, consider yourself warned: DO NOT go to Mercer Park. Because oh my gosh, you'll be totally jealous at what the Iowa City kiddos get to play on. Iowa City's largest play area (I'm hard pressed to think of a bigger one) is only two years old and is pure magic. It's got a sensory play center, a net climbing course, a MASSIVE tower with enclosed slide and equipment meant for kiddos ages 2-to-5. There are also shelters, picnic tables, grills, lit baseball/softball fields, tee ball field, tennis courts, a refurbish old fire engine play structure... you name it-- it's got it. Even the indoor aquatic center lives at Mercer, too. There's ample parking and literally kids (and adults?) of all ages will enjoy it. My kids (ages 2 and 4) absolutely love the ginormous tower and crazy four person seesaw. Come check it out!

We popped over this weekend for some fresh air and fall family photos. I am always just in awe of how busy the park is year round. Since my last review both of my kiddos have had the chance to take school field trips out to visit the Conservation Education Center, which is located at the park. It offers year-round educational programs and workshops. The staff is knowledgeable and the kids always have a blast. There's something for everyone at this gem. A bird blind for bird watchers. Access to the entire shoreline for anglers. Nine miles of trails for hikers and cross-country skiers. Seven historic bridges for photographers and families looking for fun family photos :) A large campground for campers-- available April through October. As well as a handful of picnic shelters (available via reservation). And, of course, Kent Park beach, my family's favorite (open Memorial Day through Labor Day) -- it is pristine, free and a great time. Overall, FW Kent Park is a wonderful place to get outside and clear your head. Drive over and explore today!

The park boasts a swimming beach, a nice trail around the entirety of the lake with benches if you want to stop and enjoy the views. There are many picnic shelters around the park, and a gazebo in the middle of a prairie area. I recommend taking a hike through the prairie trails. I'm also partial to taking a hike through the forest as well, or around the lake...heck, try them all at whatever length or difficulty you choose! There is a large playground area as well as a campground, so something for everyone. It's common to see many people out around the lake fishing and kayakers exploring the water.

Our tour guide Erick was great- knowledgeable and very engaging as was the other gentleman at the welcome center. Although we traveled by car, we loved that we saw a few guests actually arrived by kayak as the home's boathouse is right on the river- they did mention they called the park to prearrange their tour so as to meet the guide at the house. As avid kayakers we'll be doing this for a return visit. FYI kayakers/canoers- there's a sizeable sand bar forming a nice natural beach right across the river from the Cedar Rock boathouse that's perfect for a lunch stop/picnic.
