What I enjoy most is the opportunity to make photographs and videos of the wonderful wildlife found so abundantly there from Canadian Geese and woodpeckers, to fox and deer. Not to mention the frolicking squirrels. The park is well maintained, run and appreciated by all. A little sanctuary from a busy, bustling life, in the stillness, tranquility and wonderful, warmth of mother nature's embrace. Many thanks to all involved in making it possible and keeping it going. It's a priceless treasure I think we all take for granted when we should be thanking our lucky stars each and every day.

A pleasant park by the lake! This Waterworks park is named…read morefor the fact that the low end of the lake is the Fairfield Waterworks, where they're pumping the water and filtering it and probably adding fluoride and such, and pumping it to your homes. So don't go peeing in the lake, okay?! They have public restrooms set up by the side of the lake so you don't have to do that. The restrooms look like concrete bunkers, filled with crude graffiti. There's swimming in the lake, with a cordoned off area with buoys and a beach volleyball net and some picnic areas. There's some trails that go around the lake. Waterworks Park has ample parking and good signage to let you know where to park and where to go. It's a nice green park with lots of grass and trees for shade. There's plenty to see and do around here. It seems like it'd be fun to ride horses around here!

This large, green park is situated on the edge of town, along the Crow Creek (also named after an Indian tribe.) The park is along a big loop that you can barely fit a car down most of the way. There are plenty of places to pull off in the shade and park and get out and explore the varied landscape of Chautauqua Park. The park offers a wide range of activities, from frisbee golf, to horse and hiking trails, to soccer goals, and playgrounds. There's lots of areas to just explore, with big hills and the stream that meanders through the park. There's a little something for everyone here. The park is large enough that you can get your own area to play, or meet up with others to relax. The park seems to have a lot of history. It's clean. Not very well lit, but still feels safe since you're in this small town.

Weekends are busier, but during the week the activities and numbers of people are sparse. Brighton is four miles away with a Dollar General. It's a cheap thrill and free diversion for any age. However, I wouldn't advise it for anyone with a fear of heights, who's unstable on their feet, or is anxious about a moving pathway. This bridge spans an 80-foot gulch. It does sway profoundly in the middle. It moves up and down and sideways. It's also about 15 minutes from highways 218 in Iowa or 61 in Illinois. That puts you about 30 minutes out of the way round trip , plus time to cross the bridge over and back. There's a Dairy Queen style ice cream shop nearby for a cool treat. So, if you need a break or diversion for the kids this is a novelty for no or little cost.

It's such a throwback to the 50s, maybe 60s? It's a complete time warp. I went on bowling night and got to see the very competitive and very serious nature of bowling league. Again, it seem like such a throwback to me. All the decorations, the carpet, the pinball machines, the paint on the wall, the bar haven't been updated in many many many many many years. It's absolutely amazing! The bar was dank, dark, very old but the drinks were very cheap as well and the bartender was very friendly. What a cute little farm in Riverside, IA…read more My family loves to try new pumpkin patches and Sass Family Farm was new for us! It included farm animals (goats, sheep, ducks, chickens), a spooky barn, corn pit, a lot of little kid play sets, some photo ops and an adorable little shop with baked goods, vintage items, decor and more. We came on a Sunday in October around 11:30AM. We bought four pretty large pumpkins for $20-- no complaints here! Admission is free, which I appreciated. We had a solid 45 minutes of fun with my eight and six year olds, as there isn't too many things to do. The selection of pumpkins was good, but semi-limited (though it was at the end of October, so that could be why!) Overall, Sass Family Farm is a great spot for some fall fun.
