BEWARE! I took my shotgun in to this "gunsmith" 8 weeks ago to simply get a stuck choke tube removed. The day I took it in, they attempted to remove it but decided they would need to keep the gun there overnight to get it removed. Now a legitimate gunsmith is supposed to legally take the following information from a client if they keep their firearm overnight:
"Your record of firearms received for repair must contain a complete description of the firearm - manufacturer, importer (if any), model, serial number, type of firearm (not type of firearm action), and caliber or gauge. It must contain the full name and complete street address of the individual who brought
it in for repair and the date it was brought in."
These guys didn't take any of this information from me, so they are clearly not following the ATF regulations which is against the law. I didn't find any of this information out til after my horrible experience with them, so let me get back to my original story -
I leave my shotgun there that day, which again was 8 weeks ago. Well, approximately 3 to 4 weeks go by and I haven't heard a word about my gun, so I decided, being the rightful owner of the gun and knowing that removal of a choke tube should be a max 1 to 2 day job, to give them a call. The first time I call just to get an update about my gun, they were extremely crass about my inquiry for an update. They gave some sort of half sensible response that basically was summed up as "we are still working on it"... I decided to just let it slide, nothing to get up in arms about. So I politely said OK and ended the call.
Well, another 2 weeks go by... I still haven't gotten a word about my shotgun from them. So naturally, I'm starting to wonder what the hell is going on here, and I call them again, to which I receive the same crass attitude and non-explanatory response of essentially "we're working on it." Again, I chose the high road and didn't get flustered I just said OK and let it go.
Alright, so ANOTHER 2 weeks go by and STILL no update on my gun at all... I call again. I am yet again greeted with the same crass attitude by the owner over the phone and he hands it over to his "gunsmith" to which he responds that he is having to get a new finish on my barrel from where he had to use tools to work on it and then it would be done... I am encouraged by this because I finally get a real response about the status of my shotgun and it was made clear it was ready to go, just needed the cosmetic touch up...
Well guess what, another whole week goes by and I don't hear back from these guys about my gun. So I make my 4th and final call to them because I'm thinking to myself this thing has to be fixed and finished by now based on what they said previously and surely they just forgot to let me know... I am yet again greeted with the crass tone and attitude on the phone by the owner when I call. I explained to him that I was calling about my shotgun and was ready to pick it up... his response is "You'll need to call back tomorrow, my gunsmith isn't here." So I explained to him that I just wanted to pick my gun up I didn't have any questions about it. He stated that "I don't even know if your gun is here.".... So I think to myself, how would you not know if my firearm is in your place of business to which I brought straight to your hands to work on.... He says, "The gunsmith takes guns from here and works on them somewhere else."... So I ask the owner if he could please check to see if my gun was in the store and that I would really like to come get it back... This guy literally tells me "Call back tomorrow." and HANGS UP THE PHONE.
So I wait a few hours to cool down because this whole ordeal has been a ridiculous nightmare of a situation over something so incredibly simple and I have been nothing at all but patient and understanding, yet continually greeted with disrespect. I called him back and said I want my gun back in my hands tomorrow and I will be showing up at your store to get it (which would be today's date). I go in to retrieve my gun and low and behold... It is mangled. The choke tube has not been removed clearly and all the means they used to "smith" it have left my barrel in such disrepair that I will have to get the entire barrel replaced thanks to what they have done. I plan to pursue this damage to my property in court!!!
