I especially love Carver Park, because there is a stream that flows into it which is not too deep and my dog can normally chase ball all the way across it. When I went to the park yesterday, the water levels were so high that there were like a torrent. My dog was able to follow the tennis ball down the clear creek without getting swept into the river, so I was happy. This would be dangerous for less fit dogs.

Carver is the take-out spot for the infamous McIver-Carver and Barton-Carver floats down the Clackamas river. This mostly (seemingly) calm 3-5 hour float takes you down the Clackamas amongst beautiful green trees and throngs of beer-drinking teenagers to thirty-somethings. What should otherwise be a fairly off-the-beaten-path float becomes as crowded as your average day at the water-park, but with way more beer and moronity. To be fair, it's an insanely fun float, and were it not wall-to-wall with people, the water would be decently clean. The surface makes it look like a calm river, but people die on it on just about a weekly basis. That's not to say that you can't chill out and have a safe float. A little respect for mother nature goes a long way. But come the end of your float, hop on out by the time you reach the boat launch. That's presumably where you parked your escape vehicle earlier in the day, it's where hundreds of drunken post-float kids congregate to decide where they'll be continuing the party, and it's the location where I watched a mother cry in agony when she was told that her child had just been sucked under about 50 yards downstream under the bridge (past the boat ramp). It was intense. Not much of anything awesome to say about the park/launch itself, other than that it has bathrooms and if you get there early enough, places to park one of your cars (you'll need it at the end of the float to go back up and get the car you left upstream at Barton!) Be safe, have fun, and don't swim downstream under that big-ass bridge! A river this large deserves your respect.

The staff has ALWAYS been extremely helpful for me when I have issues removing a hook, or any questions I may have. They even give advice and show you how to do XYZ. You can bring your own gear, or use theirs for free! No license required since it is a farm. You will pay based on inches of the fish, and they will gut it and cut it and you will be on your way to a delicious dinner!!

We were told that if the roots of the fish became tangled, they would not replace them, and we were advised to bring our own equipment in a way that felt unnecessarily aggressive. "We've visited this fish farm many times, but this visit was extremely upsetting. The staff refused to give us the equipment we needed and spoke to us in a harsh, unprofessional way. When the owner came over, he was aggressive, told me not to speak, and asked our whole group to leave -- including our two kids (9 and 11) who were checking in with us, and even my daughter's Girl Scout group who had not spoken to him at all. He raised his voice at the children, leaving them very upset. Based on this experience, we cannot recommend this place.

The only instructions in the email as to this new location was "lake launch inside Milo McIver State Park". No directions were provided. Thus it would be assumed the actual location would be easy to find. I gave myself a 10 minute buffer to park and find the group. Map directions guide you to south entrance road. Once you pay & drive down, you come to a fork in the road (pics below showing signs). How do I know which boat ramp; there are 2? Since the directions indicated lake launch, I chose the right for Estacada Lake. Cut to 30 minutes later; I have now driven BOTH forks and there is no sign of a group that would indicate Clackamas River Outfitters or a paddleboarding group. I am so frustrated over the wasted time and money. When you are being paid for a service, it is your job to provide clear instructions; not just for the class itself, but how to get there. The best choice would have been for them to send a google/apple map pin to the exact location. If for some reason, that wouldn't work, then you should provide step by step instructions on where the group is to meet (IE, after entering, make a right/left, etc). I would have loved to call someone, but phone service was really shoddy in the park. Don't waste your time or money.

And the Cheeseburgers at the Hangar Pub en route home in Carver were the stuff dreams were made of. We sent the trout home with Nana and a couple of days later I was enjoying the cocktail hour with the old folks and Dad regaled me with a trout fry story. His Mother would clean and head the fish, shake 'em in flour, and then slow fry them in a cast iron skillet in heavy cream. Heavy Cream! Farm life in Minnesota as a boy. Wow.

The trail to the river is down a slope for quite a distance, so the hike back up the incline is a workout. No restroom or toilet facility.

Meh...not so impressed today…read more Stopped for a hike and some scenery. You can get in a decent hike here, but at this time of year the scenery wasn't so great. Based off what I saw, I'm sure at other times of year it would be much prettier. You have to keep a pretty slow pace right now, as the trails are very muddy...ice covered mud in quite a few places. The main Sandy River trail is more like a road, with a viewpoint of the river near the bottom. The Jim Slagle loop was a single file trail, and slightly more enjoyable than the main trail. A lot of mud, not the greatest scenery, and the occasional trash made for a "not one of my favorites" hike...especially in the land of gorgeous trails.

This visit we finally got to do some kayaking on Timothy while staying the night at Pine Point…read more It was a great weekend on the lake. Beautiful waters perfect for the kayak, fun hiking, a beautiful camp site, lots of adorable ducklings...and although a wildfire popped up within eyeshot, we got to witness planes working through the evening dipping into Timothy and ultimately taking the fire down. Yay! Although I've never seen so many employees at any campground, the grounds were kept pristine and every staff member encountered was friendly. No complaints, just fabulous fun at Timothy!
