    Beauty on the trails

When looking for a getaway location that is both stunningly beautiful, blissfully serene and wonderfully accommodating, you just can't do better than North Fork Mountain Inn! Proprietors Ed and Carol Fischer roll out the red carpet, greeting you, treating you like royalty and making sure your stay is nothing short of exemplary. Each of their 10 rooms are uniquely furnished and tailored to give you a true first-class mountain lodge experience. We stayed in the eagle's nest suite which had features like private 2nd floor deck with stunning view of the valley, one of a kind twisted branch chandelier over the 4-poster bed, dramatic vaulted ceiling, trophy buck mounted over the grand stone fireplace and a star-gazing arched window above the patio door. And speaking of star-gazing, the Inn's remote location offers the ultimate in nighttime viewing of the Milky Way in all it's glory! They have every mountain lodge amenity from the outdoor hot tub down to walking sticks for the hiking enthusiast. Several trails actually originate on the property and offer stunning views from the mountain ridge above the Inn. Ed and Carol are both gourmet cooks and treated us morning and night to mouth-watering meals and treats. It was worth the trip just for the food! But add to that the game room with pool table, board games, extensive reading library, beverage fridge that is always stocked, hot beverage bar, and a cookie jar that always seems to have tempting treats available - you've got pretty much anything you could want. Can't recommend this location highly enough and hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did - and can't wait to book our next getaway here!

The cabin we rented was spacious and clean.

We enjoyed our stay, and the hospitality of Carol and Ed. The pancake breakfast with all the sides we're out standing! We drove a Tesla to this mountain resort, which is quite a ways from Tesla superchargers. The provided destination charger worked well and we were on our way the next day with no issues.

We had 3 people booked into a suite for one night. I appreciated the owners waiving a two-night minimum to accommodate us; it was our only option. In fact, every interaction with the staff was very friendly, a model of hospitality. The location is remote, isolated, and especially scenic, in an area of West Virginia with multiple outdoor recreation resources. The driveway up to the lodge is not for wimpy vehicles. There is no cellphone reception, though wifi is available in the main lodge. Our suite featured a bedroom and a loft, very clean and cabin cozy, with a fireplace and jacuzzi. The layout is awkward, as the bathroom is integrated into the bedroom and there is no door for privacy. (There is an available room divider.) I slept in the loft on a foldout couch. As would be expected, the mattress wasn't the greatest. (However, the sheets were marvelous - all 3 of us raved about them.) I'm not a fussy sleeper, so I was fine, but others might want to avoid the couch - particularly at these steep prices. Breakfast was very good, and the 2 vegetarians were well fed. Leaving on a Sunday, we were invited to take as long as we wanted to check-out. Not for the budget-minded, but this inn provides a memorable experience in the heart of "wild and wonderful" West Virginia.

Ask the Community - North Fork Mountain Inn

How close to some lite hiking is this inn? Can we walk out the doors and into some trails or woods?

A trail leaves the property and joins the larger national park trail system fairly quickly (I think under a mile, but not really sure), so you can just walk from the property and most did. We didn't, as we had other things to do. So I can't say… Read more

Nestled amidst rolling hills just outside of Luray, the location offered stunning panoramic views of the valley and surrounding mountains. Finding the B&B was a breeze, and upon arrival, I was immediately charmed by the property's historic character, perfectly complemented by modern amenities. **Comfort and Convenience** The room itself was a haven of comfort. The bed was incredibly inviting, and the ensuite bathroom provided everything I needed. Piney Hill truly goes the extra mile with thoughtful touches - from having spare toiletries on hand (lifesaver alert for that forgotten floss!) to individual climate control - ensuring a perfectly relaxing stay. **The Heart of Piney Hill: Hank, Wiley, and Bob** However, the heart and soul of Piney Hill lie with the wonderful innkeepers, Hank and Wiley. Their warm hospitality and engaging conversation made each breakfast a highlight. Their stories and kindness were truly heartwarming, and I found myself looking forward to these morning chats just as much as exploring the Shenandoah National Park nearby. **Breakfast Fit for Royalty** Speaking of breakfast, it was without a doubt the best food I had on my entire trip. From the melt-in-your-mouth sticky buns to the heavenly French toast and the savory sage-egg-sausage bake, each morning was a culinary delight. **A Must-Stay for Shenandoah Valley Travelers** Whether you're looking for a romantic getaway, a base to explore the national park, or simply a place to unwind amidst breathtaking scenery, Piney Hill Bed and Breakfast is the perfect choice. I can't recommend them enough! In fact, if you're staying nearby and can't swing a stay, I highly recommend checking out their take-out bakery. **A Fond Farewell (and a Scratch for Bob!)** Thank you, Hank and Wiley, for making my stay so special. And please give Bob the dog an extra scratch on the head for me! I can't wait to return to the Shenandoah Valley and Piney Hill in the future.

There is a connecting hallway to the other house section, which had three bedrooms (each with en suite bath) plus an additional powder room off of another sitting area. The rooms and decorations were so well done. Besides that, there are a ton of additional touches. Things like a really nice grill, Life vests and floating noodles, a canoe, and a TV with accounts signed in for the streaming services (we caught up on Ozark!). Oh, and fresh chicken and duck eggs were left for us in the fridge, which we devoured. The grounds are beautiful as well. The landscaping just accentuates an already perfect view of the Shenandoah. We also hiked up to the little summit to get a 360 degree view at the top. Our three days here flew by and we all had an amazing time. We will definitely be back.

So hospitable. Nice wrap-around porch well appointed with rocking chairs (which we enjoyed in only the sunrise hours as it is July and brutally hot and humid.) The B&B is fully air conditioned with individual settings for each guest room. We stayed in the Silk Room, which is enormous! In the antebellum era, silkworms were raised in there and fed harvested mulberry leaves. Modern amenities such as walk-in showers are blended well with the historic features so that there is no jarring sense of disconnect.
