A group of 16 of us booked for the weekend and I honestly can't think of enough great things to say. Seriously, everything about this place was AMAZING! I organized the trip, so I got to work with one of the owners, Jesse, to get everything set up. He was helpful, responsive, accommodating, and really kind. I organize a lot for my friends and myself, and this was one of the easiest. Upon arrival we were checked in by the other owner, Gary, who immediately made us feel like we were at home. He gave us a wonderful tour of the property and told us everything we needed to know for a wonderful stay. This property is nestled in the hills of WV and the views are STUNNING! Every space and room is beautifully appointed, really leaning into the upscale rustic vibe you'd expect in a mountain retreat. So many beautiful nooks and crannies to sit and read or play games or just nap. The pool and hot tub are gorgeous and Logan at the pool bar will take amazing care of you! They provide a complimentary breakfast of freshly cooked eggs, meats, and biscuits/scones. The lunch and dinner menus are varied and everything we had was delicious. Our servers, Rain (spelling ??) and Angie were stellar and the ambience was just perfect. Every single one of us left feeling refreshed and we were all sad to leave. Do yourself a favor and make the trek out to Lost River and treat yourself. This place is amazing and I'm already planning my next trip here with my partner.

However, our visit was overshadowed by our concern for the wellbeing of the mini horse at the entrance. As I understand it, horses are social herd animals, so it's quite unfortunate to see this guy living in solitude without companionship. Also, his shelter seemed fairly small, with limited shading, and mostly on a steep hill that was largely unattended to. These were our general observations while visiting. Maybe this pretty pony has another home he visits and is there temporarily to entertain visitors? We couldn't be sure. Regardless, I hope others share in this concern and that the owners consider ways to improve this guy's digs and, ultimately, quality of life.

Enter River Bluff Farm. We rented the entire space, which by the way is pet friendly if you do that. Donna was incredibly responsive when we booked, and answered all of my questions prior to arrival. She met us there to let us in, practicing social distancing of cours The pictures don't actually do it justice! The cabin part is comprised of a kitchen, dining area, living area and loft. There is a connecting hallway to the other house section, which had three bedrooms (each with en suite bath) plus an additional powder room off of another sitting area. The rooms and decorations were so well done. Besides that, there are a ton of additional touches. Things like a really nice grill, Life vests and floating noodles, a canoe, and a TV with accounts signed in for the streaming services (we caught up on Ozark!). Oh, and fresh chicken and duck eggs were left for us in the fridge, which we devoured. The grounds are beautiful as well. The landscaping just accentuates an already perfect view of the Shenandoah. We also hiked up to the little summit to get a 360 degree view at the top. Our three days here flew by and we all had an amazing time. We will definitely be back.

    ## Piney Hill Bed and Breakfast: A Perfect Shenandoah Valley Getaway (5 stars)…read more **A Dreamy Escape with Spectacular Views and Unforgettable Hospitality** My recent stay at Piney Hill Bed and Breakfast was an absolute delight. Nestled amidst rolling hills just outside of Luray, the location offered stunning panoramic views of the valley and surrounding mountains. Finding the B&B was a breeze, and upon arrival, I was immediately charmed by the property's historic character, perfectly complemented by modern amenities. **Comfort and Convenience** The room itself was a haven of comfort. The bed was incredibly inviting, and the ensuite bathroom provided everything I needed. Piney Hill truly goes the extra mile with thoughtful touches - from having spare toiletries on hand (lifesaver alert for that forgotten floss!) to individual climate control - ensuring a perfectly relaxing stay. **The Heart of Piney Hill: Hank, Wiley, and Bob** However, the heart and soul of Piney Hill lie with the wonderful innkeepers, Hank and Wiley. Their warm hospitality and engaging conversation made each breakfast a highlight. Their stories and kindness were truly heartwarming, and I found myself looking forward to these morning chats just as much as exploring the Shenandoah National Park nearby. **Breakfast Fit for Royalty** Speaking of breakfast, it was without a doubt the best food I had on my entire trip. From the melt-in-your-mouth sticky buns to the heavenly French toast and the savory sage-egg-sausage bake, each morning was a culinary delight. **A Must-Stay for Shenandoah Valley Travelers** Whether you're looking for a romantic getaway, a base to explore the national park, or simply a place to unwind amidst breathtaking scenery, Piney Hill Bed and Breakfast is the perfect choice. I can't recommend them enough! In fact, if you're staying nearby and can't swing a stay, I highly recommend checking out their take-out bakery. **A Fond Farewell (and a Scratch for Bob!)** Thank you, Hank and Wiley, for making my stay so special. And please give Bob the dog an extra scratch on the head for me! I can't wait to return to the Shenandoah Valley and Piney Hill in the future.

It's charming, cozy, and full of character in a way that's hard to find anymore. We stayed in Room 15, the Bernstein Suite, and it was incredibly spacious. The bed was so comfortable, and I loved the thoughtful details -- especially the cute vanity room with amazing natural light and the cozy seating area. The decor throughout the inn and in the room really stood out to me and was easily my favorite part of the stay. It felt like such a unique blend of historic charm and comfort. This stay was extra special for us as it was part of our 10-year anniversary trip while driving to New York City, and it ended up being the perfect halfway stop to break up the drive. It made the whole trip feel even more memorable. We also dined at Clem's Kitchen during our stay, and the food was great. (I'm gluten free and there were plenty of options!) I really appreciated that it's part of the inn, which made the overall experience feel seamless and convenient. Overall, it's the kind of place where you can slow down, soak in the atmosphere, and enjoy something truly special. I would absolutely recommend staying here if you're in the Shenandoah Valley area.

Charming Place, Comfortable Stay…read more We enjoy stays at both chains and independent hotels/motels, just do a lot of research to ensure a solid, restful stay at either. This piqued our interest as the longest continuously run motel and it lived up to expectations of being charmingly quirky while also very comfortable -- plus, proving to be easy to access as a quick pit stop. Spouse & I agreed when checking out that we wished we were staying longer, to get to enjoy the surprisingly spacious sitting room and glassed-in porch -- we stayed in room #15 / Bernstein and recommend it to both couples and small families. The bed was cushy and my husband slept later than his norm, always a good sign for bed comfort. It is higher than average, so I took advantage of the provided step to hop in/out. Because the tavern is onsite, there were additional bathrooms handy downstairs when ours was occupied. As noted in our welcome sheet, water took a few minutes to warm up. So if showering and in a rush, run it first for 3-5 minutes while doing other prep. But hot water arrives and pressure was excellent. The rooms were spotless, though of course tiles and other fixtures are vintage and show age -- it's a historic landmark. We also wish we could have stayed longer to take advantage of the porch rockers and both the tavern or (intriguingly combined) Irish-Mexican restaurant on premises. There appears to be patio seating in back, so ask if it's associated with hotel or dining, if looking for other outdoor space. Indoors, there are public spaces (two parlors plus other spots -- it's a rambling building!) with books and a checkerboard handy. Maybe more amenities but we ran out of time to explore. It's not a B&B -- there's just a stocked Keurig in the lobby and some packaged snacks and bottled water (free but donations welcomed). But if the Tavern is closed, as it was on our Memorial Dat visit, there's a small coffee shop just a half-block away, serving breakfast late as well as some sandwiches and bowls, plus good teas & coffees. Incredibly friendly staff. Looked like a few other dining options nearby plus historic sites and walking trails. We arrived very late, and management is not onsite at that hour, but instructions for arrival were provided, comprehensive and very easy to follow. Staff on site in am were very pleasant and helpful. Tip: If arriving late & lugging a ton of luggage, ask which rooms are closest to the late-night entrance. Number 15 is on the far side and up a flight of stairs -- fine for us with just overnight totes & computer bags but just something to keep in mind if you have a lot to unload. Overall, an enthusiastic thumbs-up. It looks like it would be a fun, relaxing hub for a weekend escape. But also great as a highway stop, as it is just a few minutes' drive from the exit.
