But yeah, Redleaf. Halfway between Kings Cross and Vaucluse, it really is just a peach of a place. Stroll down through some magic manicured gardens to a hidden slice of damn near perfection. Long, lovely sand, a shady hill with green grass to sprawl on (shoot for a prime spot under the trees, or miss out and quietly get well jell of the people that did manage to jag a tree spot) and a big, beautiful private swimming pool made of the harbour itself. Swim out to the pontoons and have yo-self a little ol' pontoon party. That's what the cool Eastern Subbsies kids do. And pretending you're one of them can't hurt. You just have to get the strut right.

It is also less populated by surfers and their boards. There are great rock pools to explore at low tide. There is grassy, shaded park area for those who want to stay out of the sand and sun. The park is gated by enormous trees and only once you're a good couple of hundred meters inside do you get to the beach. The park is a great area for picnics with lots of space and shade. There are also lots of walks that you can take from Nielson Park which offer spectacular views of Sydney Harbour. The best in my mind is the 3km Harbour Foreshore walk, which is stunning at any time but particularly in the morning. The beach is just beautiful - white sand and crystal clear blue water. Unlike some of the smaller harbour beaches this beach seems to remain pretty clear of washed up rubbish from boats. There is also a netted swimming area, which is great for anybody who is reluctant to do laps in the ocean for fear of sharks!!

So easy to get to, we walked to the ferry from our hotel and got a direct boat to the Manly harbor. A couple of blocks walk and you are on the beach. The weather was not all that great for swimming so we watched the surfers for a bit then headed on the trail that takes you out to the North Head and Burragula lookout. The sights and paths along the way are beautiful. We saw an echidna moseying along the way which was cool.

There are also a handful of public restrooms to use up and down the outside perimeter of the beach. Lots of things to do within the the area if you are not a "beach person." There are a ton of restaurants, bars, shopping, ice cream and even Starbucks! Plenty to do! Definitely family and dog friendly!
