The park is gated by enormous trees and only once you're a good couple of hundred meters inside do you get to the beach. The park is a great area for picnics with lots of space and shade. There are also lots of walks that you can take from Nielson Park which offer spectacular views of Sydney Harbour. The best in my mind is the 3km Harbour Foreshore walk, which is stunning at any time but particularly in the morning. The beach is just beautiful - white sand and crystal clear blue water. Unlike some of the smaller harbour beaches this beach seems to remain pretty clear of washed up rubbish from boats. There is also a netted swimming area, which is great for anybody who is reluctant to do laps in the ocean for fear of sharks!!

And if you needed any clarification of this, head to Lady Bay Beach in Watsons Bay. I've never quite worked out if this is technically a gay nudist beach, or whether it just happens to be populated by ageing naked guys, with large guts, most of the time. The beach itself isn't too bad, I've never ventured down to spend an afternoon on it, but you can see it quite clearly from the path that leads to South Head (and it tends to be quite a pretty sight, except when there are people on it!). I've not really considered nudism as a potential activity, but that's mainly due to the fact that I get annoyed when I get sunburnt shoulders, imagine getting sunbu- ... never mind. If you're trying to get around the beaches of Sydney on your travels, I think you'd be better off hitting up Camp Cove just down the path, it's a much more pleasant setting!

Did you bring a date? I hope it goes well. Good beach choice, by the way. You'll score points). Can get choppy on overcase days, best to come when the sun's out and your guns are also out. It's a cracking place to while away an afternoon, plus you can look at all the giant houses and wonder what the hell these people do for a living.

Instead it is packed with young kids and families relaxing and playing at this small harbor beach. Shark Beach can be found in Nielsen Park in the ritzy suburb of Vaucluse. The entire area is just stunning, with stately mansions surrounding the park and lush greenery everywhere. It's really close to the city, too. You can get here on the 325 bus that runs along Vaucluse Road and drops you off at the entrance of Nielsen Park. The best traits of this beach are that it is small, shaded, and has very tranquil and clear waters. Shark nets act as a barrier several feet from the shore, beyond which you can see dozens of sailboats and kayaks. The beach itself is quite tiny, but right behind it is a lovely promenade with the Nielsen Park Café and Restaurant, toilets, barbeques, and picnic tables. There are plenty of places to seek shade amongst the giant trees that dot the park.

I myself are terrified of sharks, but am a regular at this beach. I have seen no sharks. There is a shark net, but I am affraid it would offer no protection from one of those toothy pricks. But lets just think it will. :) I love that it is off the beat and track. The water is clear (with some bad days). There are lots of families here, but yet in a way its peaceful. There is plenty of space, whether you want to lay on the sand, sit under one of the many trees, tan on the rocks, or grab a bite to eat at the Kiosk. Based at the bottom end of Nielson National Park this little secret spot is a great chillout location. If you don't want to jump in the water, you can always take a walk around the park tracks. The views are spectacular, and you may also find a couple of other beaches along the way. Whats that Bondi.....pfft!

Not a long walk from Robertsons Park. Maybe 2 miles? However, you can extend for a longer coastAl walk by combining it with the Bondi, which could go on for over 12 km. Much of the power has fencing for safety. Paved throughout.

We laughed hysterically watching a woman with a bag of fish & chips get chased screaming by about 25 large, loud & hungry seagulls. There were lots of beautiful sailboats and a quiet pristine beach. It appears that the indigenous tribes were here in the 1900s & lived around the giant fig tree. The first European settlement were here in 1790 as the bricklayers, carpenters & fishermen. Now Doyle's fish and chips and the Watson Bay boutique hotel are the places to stop here. The special forces the Australian military equivalent to the American navy seals are housed here with lots of equipment.

As the other reviewer says you can take your dog to this beach which is lovely, but they do have to be kept on a leash. The beach does seem to be patrolled by Rangers so you could get a fine if your dog is unleashed. Stick to weekdays if you prefer quieter beaches but otherwise it's lovely.

Access to the beach is very subtle with a narrow staircase leading you down to the ocean. The beach itself isn't very big but it has lots of character. The far corner of the beach where you can get into the water on a old boat ramp is my favourtie spot. The best bit about Kutti Beach is that it is a dog beach - that's right it's no problem if you want to bring your dog down for a frolic.

There are cooktops and plenty of rubbish bins. There's parking and nearby toilets which are also well maintained. Oh and it's dog friendly. The beach access is netted on one side so no pesky creatures can get in to eat the children. The sand is a little silty but it's clean. There's a pier from which children were daring each other to jump in the water. There's a water fountain and a shower to rinse your feet. Plus as we left and walked through the nearby neighborhood I met some lizard friends.

A harbourside beach reserve looking…read moreout to Chowder Bay that is dog friendly, has lots of open space, enclosed bathing area, a wharf that's popular for fishing, great picnic areas, brand new toilets and a fab playground to boot. The playground has sand flooring, great climbing structures, swings and even a disability swing. It's a complete mystery to me why it's so quiet during the week but perhaps that's why we love it so much. Parking is paid, which is fine for Mosman residenst with parking permits but a bit exxy otherwise. Bushwalks from the west end of the reserve are head around the Sydney Harbour National Park and though the start of the walk involves a number of steps once on the track it's pretty easy walking along well maintained track. There's an ice-cream van at the weekend and just over the beach is a Bacino Kiosk. Superb spot.
