It claims to be the oldest commuter ferry running to a timetable in Australia - residents of Bundeena who enjoy the privacy and peace of life across the water from the city can travel to Cronulla from as early as 6am, arriving at the ferry port which is right next door to the train station. More commonly though, the ferry is used for recreation. Travellers from 'the mainland' ride across the waters to reach Bundeena, from where you can access the Royal National Park (day and overnight hikes and camping), beaches, and beautiful coastal scenery. The trip takes about twenty minutes. As public transport, it is very reasonably priced, but you can't make advance reservations - if one ferry is full, you wait for the next, though they assure you they will not leave you stranded in Bundeena if you want to make it home!
