Mario M. Cuomo Bridge), especially at night when it's lit up. The park is a section of the county's planned 51-mile RiverWalk. We parked at the Tarrytown Metro-North train station (free on Sundays and municipal holidays, but there are other lots in the area), and took a lovely stroll along the riverwalk to the Sleepy Hollow Lighthouse which is just over a mile, though the trail extends further. There is a small playground, picnic area, benches and landscaped terraces along the way, and an "eco-corridor" filled with native plants. The walkway is very clean and well-maintained. For those curious, here is a map of the eventual 51.5-mile Hudson River Trail, which is an ongoing work in progress: https://planning.westchestergov.com/images/stories/RiverWalk/riverwalkmap11x17.pdf

It's in front of a development that was Edge on the Hudson before there was Edge on the Hudson (so much for the hype there). Views of the Tappan Zee bridge and Hudson River are unavoidable which is a very good thing. Decent amount of walking paths and benches, in addition to the dedicated picnic area. Plenty of parking although it is paid via the Tarrytown parking app. Playgrounds are a bit dated but in great shape. Everything has soft, spongy ground around it. Good variety for different ages too. Haven't done the splash pad yet because it's winter but it is pretty sizable. Good amount of kids around here without it being overwhelming. Maybe not the most built up park in the area, but my toddler loves it and so do I.

A lovely walk for a nice day…read more.. I've known of the pier for the last few years, but it wasn't until recently that I made the trip there. I went earlier on a Sunday early afternoon and the town was already busy. Lots of people enoying some outdoor dining. There is also a Green Market there on select weekend mornings which seemed nice. There are a few areas to park, but the regulation sigsn threw me off...I ended up parking in a lot marked Parking Lot D where there were no signs. You can use the address of "100 Gair Street" if you plan on visiting via GPS. I also noticed people parking and headed toward the pier, which was when I fingured parking there would be safe. I believe there are a few spots closer to the Pier path but those were marked "Reserved" From parking lot D to the tip of the pier is about a mile, so be sure to have comfortable shoes on. The first half of the walk is a wide paved path through tall grass on the right and apartments/housing to the left. The second half offers some lovely views of the Hudson river and Tappan Zee bridge. The paved pier was large but no fisherman there that day. A lot of people walking, jogging, runnng and biking though...the 2-mile trek (back and forth) is perfect for all of these activities. There are lots of benches all along the path to sit, relax and take in the views. There is a building toward the end of the pier, which looks sort of like a museum with information on the outside walls, but the doors were closed at the time. Overall it was a lovely visit. A half day may include visiting the green market, visiting the pier and maybe even grabbing a bite in town.

One of the things hubs and I always appreciate is how much art work Peekskill has included in their landscape. And what a nice and quiet retreat it was for us. Even though it was a 20 minute trip heading north to come this way- this was the perfect way to slow down and go outside. Just step outdoors to appreciate this park's contemporary sculptures. You walk along the inlet and up a hill, eventually you will on top of the 'mountain' that is also the metro north train tunnel. You can go around one of the fences and sit directly above the tunnel but we aware-- there is no additional fence before the drop. And if you drop..well, um. You dead. But otherwise its super cool to watch the train approach and feel it rumble underneath you. Going along a little further up the trail you will come to an outcropping of an old foundation and what is left of a fireplace and chimney. I believe this was one of the guest houses or the daughter homes belonging to the McAndrew's estate that is directly opposite the island. (That is another great hike with lots of ruins including an old race track, ice house and some old foundations.) Eventually you will start downhill and get to the waterfront which is gorgeous and has a great view of Haverstraw. It's a rocky area but can be traversed with slight caution, in order to skip rocks or fish or even hang out in the water. There's a beat up picnic table or two and some benches around in case you feel like packing a picnic. Please be sure to pick up after yourself though and keep the preserve clean for all! Cans are usually by the exit. No bathrooms either so be one with the call of nature.
