I've been cycling the loop of Bronx River Parkway every Sunday, rain or shine, during the Bicycle Sundays season. And recently this year, I started exploring the NCT and SCT after a quick loop on the BRP. A portion of the trailway in Ardsley look like under construction (gravel) and I believe is part of the SCT. This is where I first started exploring this trailway and just rode 4 miles north for I am not yet familiar and not sure what to expect. On my next rides I gained some confidence and started exploring further north and was able to reach Yorktown Heights border. I should have started this back in mid-summer but was so focus on the BRP loop which help me improved my laps time but I am not in that pro category... yet. I recommend this trail for cyclist/cylcing-lovers and who loves nature's beauty in Westchester. I am impressed on the improvements that were made in the NCT yet be still on the lookout when you cross the roads specially by Briarcliff Manor area. Alway make yourself visible (use lights) and be corteous to the joggers and fellow cyclist. read more

This trailway is easily accessible and well-maintained. I regularly run along the sections between Bedford Rd. (117) and Hastings-on-Hudson (part of the linked South County Trail). The trail is scenic and shaded -- the entire route traces an old railroad line -- and the grade is gentle. The area between Eastview and Bedford Rd., which runs adjacent to Rockefeller Park, is particularly beautiful. Other stretches (Elmsford in particular) pass through industrial parks and aren't going to win beauty pageants. The route below 117 closely follows the Saw Mill, and while traffic can be noisy, it's still a lovely path. My go to trail during the covid 19 Pandamic, great for biking, walking and jogging but it definitely gets busy on the weekends in the morning and afternoon's it is best to go in the evening on the weekends to avoid the crowds. The South County is nice also towards Elmsford it is not as crowded as the Milwood direction. Major of the people are definitely following social distancing wearing their masks. North-South County Trailway spans 36.2 miles through Westchester County, 22.1 miles comprise the North County Trailway, from Eastview in the town of Greenburgh north to Putnam County. The remaining 14.1 miles , South to New York City border make up the South County Trailway. read more

If you are a serious bicyclist then you must find the North County Trailway. My suggestion would be to drive via the Taconic Parkway and exit for Rt 134 towards Kitchewan. Park your vehicle on the side of the road, and then enter by following the Yellow signs. You'll want to head north to find the Croton Reservoir Bridge, it is less than a mile from Rt 134. The view's from the bridge are spectacular. You can continue on the North County Trailway until its terminus at Rt 6. You can Enter the Putman County Trailway and bicycle another seven miles until you reach Lake Mahopac. The trailway maintains a steady incline most of the way, but it is a pleasure cruise returning. read more

The North County Trailway is a bike path that runs along some of the parkways in Westchester County in NY. It is a rails to trails project that takes most of the route of the New York & Putnam Railroad. It's got a few steep bits, particularly from the parking areas to the trail itself, but the scenery is quite pretty in the autumn. It's pretty popular on weekends, and you'll see quite a few people on bikes, jogging and walking their dogs. The parking lots are decently sized, with several of them along the trailway. There are a few bits on the trail that need to be repaired and can be a bit hazardous, and the sections where it crosses the busy parkways should have hazard lights installed, but this is overall a great trail and a place I plan on visiting again soon. read more

4/5 for a bikers point of view. Biking this trail is simple and not highly technical. This is nice to have some causal exercise and get out of the house. It is lengthy (approx 22 mi) and you can ride street or mountain bikes. It is a walking trail, so lots of people and sweet pups to interact with. Just be cautious and follow your biking courtesy rules. The trail is kept up fairly well. Parking is intermittent throughout the trail. Look into Westchester County Parks site and they advise you what business will let you park on weekends, etc. it is limited at peak times so this will be your biggest challenge. Also nice to note that there are recycling and trash bins along the trail (don't be a litter bug) , benches, and emergency phones. Overall it was nice! read more
