So we were excited to have another recreation and fitness center available other than YMCA. The center offered a Performing Arts Center, Family pool, gym, climbing wall, competition lap pool, worship center, weight room, group exercise classes and more. I paid for the fitness shuffle classes to include the Zumba classes which was so much fun. My two nephews would be placed in the child watch section while their parents (My cousin) worked out. My daughter also worked at the child watch section. My brother also worked as a personal fitness trainer. We were members of the Kroc prior to my daughter and brother's employment. All the employees were always friendly, nice and helpful. We surely enjoyed our time here. We have a lot of great memories.

The program basically works like this: parents volunteer one day a week in the classroom, for approximately 3 hours. This gives teachers more one-on-one time with students, parents get to be hands on with their child's education, and it builds a community rarely seen in our busy world. The teachers are dedicated, going above and beyond what is required. We've had a volunteer choir when no music program was available through the district. We go on field trips, and fund raise so that EVERY student goes on the field trip with no worries about cost. I have the enviable position of knowing all the parents of my child's classmates as well as all his classmates. Students who are exceeding grade level work can go to the next grade level up for that particular subject, and aren't going into the classroom of a teacher they are unfamiliar with. Students requiring additional attention are able to receive it, by parent volunteers in the classroom AND their teacher. There are family gathering events, from Winter Concerts to potlucks. We have a "Dad's Day" where dads, grandpas, uncles, etc. come in and share something about their jobs or hobbies. Last year we had a Vallejo motorcycle police officer and the kids (and a few teachers!) got to sit on his bike, there was fishing, working on electronics, trying on military tactical gear and much more. There are special themed centers for holidays, a monthly Books & Bagels event for kindergarten & first grade, and there was talk of starting a robotics team this coming school year. Knowing all the benefits of this program as well as the opportunity to be in there, not just attending PTO meetings, had made all the difference for me. My child loves it and is successful in school, I love it, and I want more families to know this is an option for them.

She took time to hear my story and the story of my daughter's abuse at the hands of her perpetrator As well as my story. This agency, as far as I'm concerned is the only one in the county that is knowledgeable with anything trauma and victim related As well as taking the time to call people back and to provide resources and phone numbers to call. They are truly on your side here, unlike other agencies, such as Sane Sart, Trauma recovery center and DA advocates which I would altogether avoid because they're useless.

Latasha and all of her staff are nurturing, dependable, trustworthy (I could go on and on about their positive qualities), etc. I heard about Latasha's program through a parent and because I was pressed for time, enrolled my son immediately. As this was my only child and I had no prior experience with centers, I did not know what to expect. Once he started, I quickly learned that had I had expectations, they would have easily been exceeded. Yes, The Learning Tree provided quality care to my child. I felt comfortable dropping him off every day and I could tell that he felt safe there and enjoyed his time at the center. But.... my child's experience as well as my own went so far beyond that. My son and really, myself also, became a part of The Learning Tree Family. Latasha and her teachers made up a whole new group of people that cared for my child as much as I did. My son attended The Learning Tree in through Kindergarten. By the time he started Kindergarten, he was reading perfectly (I'm not exaggerating) all because of the time and effort the teachers at Latasha's put in with him. In addition to teaching him, they ensured that he learned life lessons and that he had a good time. They went on numerous field trips, some educational and some for fun. They participated in various community service projects such as backpack drives and feeding the homeless. When they did these activities, Latasha made sure that they understood the reasons why they were doing them and why service to the community is important. Although my child has aged out of The Learning Tree, this program is still a part of our lives. If ANYONE asks for childcare recommendations, I send them to The Learning Tree and from these people, I have heard nothing but positive experiences. Both myself and my son visit the facility regularly and Latasha and the teachers have become a part of our extended family. Latasha and The Learning Tree were a huge factor in my son's early learning and development and to this day, I know that a contributing factor to his success in school and really, the way he goes about his life, is because of the skills he was taught and the experiences he had while at The Learning Tree. Taekwondo is the way of the hand and the foot yet the lessons he taught myself and others stuck with us much deeper than just that. He instills honor, respect, integrity and perseverance in all of his students which in turn made all of us better human beings than skilled self defense students. Mr . Brantley is a great Taekwondo instructor but a better character teacher, there is none. So I'll say that to say this. Try out a class for any age and see for yourself. If it's for a short time or for years like it was for myself and many others, the lifetime experience you'll gain won't disappoint anyone.
