I was googling to get to the NAS website for their current summer hours and stumbled on here. In reading one of the reviews, I had to respond and say that my experience with North Atlantic Scuba has been fantastic. I took the open water class in January and before I could finish the open water dives in May to complete my certification, I injured my shoulder and have not been able to dive. My instructor at NAS has reached out to me to check in a few times and to let me know whenever Im ready, we will finish the certification. I have had two opportunities to dive recently but haven't been ready. They keep checking in! I know as soon as Im ready, Ill get it done! You cant ask for a better dive shop. BEWARE-This place ripped me off years ago when I took scuba diving course through here while a junior in high school. I NEVER got to do the second openwater dive in order to get certified. They came to my high school in Boston years ago and offered the course at the school during the winter (classroom/pool instruction...and you had to come to Marshfield to this shop to do the 2 dives with the staff that summer). *They dispatched their troops, which was some local kid who went to my highschool who lived in one of the neighboring, local, small towns down here..to round up a group of interested students to sign up for the course so the school would allow them to come to our school afterschool to teach it which they did. The guy who came to the school and taught the course was some pencilneck named "Woody" (or who just went by that name). For the duration of the classroom portion/course, he always brought his "SIDEKICK" along with him for the ride who was apparently one of his local buddies from around here. The sidekick guy was some local yokel, burnout guy who didn't/never helped teach the course but just sat there in a desk in the front of the room with his legs crossed and lips pursed. He looked and dressed like the singer Vanilla Ice 10 years past his prime. He didn't help teach but just sat there and would chime in with a wisecrack every 10 seconds and horsed and clowned around the entire time like the place was a fairground. [An Example: When discussing the airtanks, the sidekick guy chimed in right away and start talking about nitrous gas tanks and said once when someone brought in a tank to be filled that had some nitrous oxide gas left inside, he hooked up hose to tank and sat down in the corner and sucked out all the remaining nitrous oxide]. "Woody" the instructor guy was impatient and had an attitude when people needed extra help learning the equipment and the masks weren't good quality and leaked during the pool sessions and also during the ocean dive...but tried to blame it on the students. -I never saw or dealt with the actual owner. "Woody" was the only instructor for both the dives and the course for the entire place. *Place was way, way overbooked but had no problem taking people's money, though! That summer, I was able to schedule and complete the FIRST dive but NOT the SECOND. That Woody told me everything was completely booked up for the remainder of that summer and to call next summer and we could do it then. I returned to high school that fall for senior year. -fast forward to following summer-SUMMER ROLLS AROUND and I call but NO CAN DO! This was like in early June! Told me they were completely booked solid for that summer too and to call back in late Sept! By then I had went away to college that fall and of course it wasn't possible to come back in fall to do the second dive. Also, it was well over a year since the initial course and I would have had to take it over again or pay them more money the following summer if wanting to pursue it and update everything. I wound up NEVER getting to do the second dive and never getting certified as a result. NEVER PAY UP FRONT FOR THE ENTIRE COURSE AS I DID. =================================== UPDATE: 04/21/18-In regards to the owner's 2 replies; *This doesn't change the fact that the place RIPPED ME OFF, wasted a year and a half of my time, and my negative personal experience with the business/instructor which are the SALIENT ASPECTS of my review. Nothing I stated is "misleading" or ??"disingenuous" at all and my review is 100% accurate. What the owner does is simply shift the blame onto the former instructor. -YES, it was over a decade ago when I took the course but the timeframe is irrelevant since the owner states he's owned the place all along for 39 years. -The instructor "WOODY" I had was associated with this dive shop and WAS AN EMPLOYEE OF THIS DIVE STORE and worked directly onsite and he also said he worked here the entire duration of the course. (Also, over 2+ years after my course, when driving by, I saw him again standing out in front parking lot sweeping the parking lot with a broom.). - Yes, he got the equipment from this shop and brought to pool sessions and I met him here to do the 1st ocean dive that summer. -His phone # to contact him was at this NAS dive store and I called him 6 or 7 times on the landline at this shop when trying to schedule the ocean dives and he answered most of the time. This was over a year's timeframe including the initial year I took course and following summer also. Other times, the cashier lady answered and had him come to the phone. -All the material he handed out in the class was from here, NAS, and exact, same dive store and location for the openwater ocean dive located on Ocean St.* Regardless of his type of 'employee status,' This "Woody" WAS AFFILIATED WITH THE BUSINESS. read more

Really friendly staff and reasonable prices. I got my open water scuba certification and couldn't have been happier with my experience.

My Wife and I brought our gear to get serviced here after brining it to another dive shop and not being satisfied. They took great care of our gear. We also upgraded some of our gear. They don't try to up sell you. I have been a certified diver since 1989 and they are the best dive shop around. They treat you like family. We couldn't be happier. read more

The staff at North Atlantic really treat you like family. I took my open water cert with them and they were awesome to work with. Safety is a huge part of what they teach . This is extremely important when you are dealing with an activity that can be dangerous if your not trained properly. VERY good people and a GREAT little shop. read more

This review is long over due. This place is wonderful. They go above and beyond. Our family's relationship with them started in 2013 when my husband and two of my son's got certified. My son's were teens and the instructors were fantastic!! They boys came away enthused and knowledgeable. Because of the excellent instruction they received at North Atlantic Scuba they are ultra safety conscious. My youngest son and I got certified last summer (2017). They were incredibly patient with me, even though I'm a bit of a scardy cat. I would not go anywhere else for our equipment or anything dive related. Anytime we have an equipment problem, they know the warranty information for every piece of our equipment and what ever problems we have had it has most often been covered. They have patched wetsuits I thought were trash for next to nothing. They also foster an amazing community among the area dive enthusiasts and they are fantastic people. For instance my husband lost a snorkle out in Beadles rocks that we wrote off as gone for good. About a month later we get a call from North Atlantic Scuba that someone in their community of divers found it and because it had his initials on it (two letters only!!) they figured it was his and held it for him to come claim.
