Dr. Norman Mathis is a very nice person as well as all his staff.
My issue is with his Dentistry, specifically Dentures. I was so upset with the lack of knowledge regarding my dentures he had made for me that I finally just gave up and took them as my nerves were shot. I literally was going home in tears because nothing was being done to fix what was wrong with the dentures he had made for me and everytime I went in, they were worse than before.
This was a complete waste of money as they never fit right. I tried to explain to him that when he removed my original cast for the dentures to be made, they had not set completely and the right side was dented inward from him removing them. This caused the teeth on the right side to not match up. At first he said he would redo the casting but on the day I went back, he said it was not necessary. I even drew him diagrams as to how the right side of my dentures leaned inward and the teeth did not match up with the uppers.
To make matters worse, the place that makes the dentures cut off the bottoms of the dentures so much that I couldn't even keep the dentures in my mouth. They just sat on-top of my gums. Dr. Mathis said "you'll have to use denture cream" again I could not get him to understand that the lab that made them had slice them so high up toward the teeth that they just sat on-top of my gums with no amount going low enough to do any good. Also for some unknown reason, one of the dentures has a very noticeable dip in the gum line. I ended up having to buy temporary denture liner and applying it to the dentures so they would fit and stay in my mouth. Every time Dr. Mathis would get the lower dentures to fit low enough in my mouth to stay in, the lab would butcher them and cut off most of the gum line. I am now trying to save up enough money to go to Oregon where the denturist actually MAKES the dentures instead of some lab which tends to lose something in the translation between the Dentist and the Lab.
Had Dr. Mathis redone the casting like he said he was going to, maybe I would have a decent set of dentures but then again, the lab would probably hack away at the lower parts of the dentures so they barely sat in the mouth with no support. This was a complete waste of my time as well as my money. No one should have to go through everything I went through and end up with a set of inferior dentures. Save your money people and go out of state where dentures are made in house and not in some lab pumped out like an assembly line with no individual attention to detail.
I waited a while to write this as here I go again, relining my dentures so they will fit and scrimping and saving to get real dentures. I don't even wear my dentures hardly at home so that the temporary reline I have to use lasts longer between applications. Being retired on a fixed income, this is very upsetting that any senior citizen would have to go through this hell. read more
